Dear Teca:

I saw your note on the internet about the relationship with the Winningham family and Chief Nettle Carrier.

I assume that Chief was an American Indian but I don't know from what tribe. My grandmother was Nora Bell Winningham, b. abt1891 in Texas(maybe Cooke co.) and who is carried on the 1910 federal census of Love co., Ok. as being 1/8th Cherokee.

My grandmother Nora Bell was probably the daughter of one Robert Winningham although I have only circumstantial evidence. The 1900 federal census of Cooke co., Texas states that Robert Winningham was born about 1885 in Arkansas and that his parents were born in Tennessee. His children shown on that census are John Marion Winningham and George "Tooge" Winningham who my dad knew.

I have a cousin in Fld. who is also researching the Winningham family and thinks that John Marion Winningham, and George "Tooge" Winningham are the children of one Richard Winningham born abt. 1887 in Polk County, Ark. He says that Richard Winningham's father was Marion Winningham and his wife, Sarah Marion was b. in Tn and Sarah in N.C. My cousin also says that Richard Winningham had siblings named Mary Winningham b. 1853 in Polk co.,Ark; Jiles Smith; Sophia Winningham and George Winningham b. 1870 in Polk co., Ark.

Hope you can help me on this. I have other info to exchange if you think you need it. Respectfully, Claude Davis.
