I am researching a Gibson family from Sumner Co, TN. It is possible we are connected in someway. My names are:

William (Billy) Gibson (1808-1881) m Elizabeth Goodall (1818-1890) Children were:
Francis L
Martha W
John H
Sarah N m John (Tolly) Wilks
William T
Junetta H m WMS Wilks
David G m Fannie Horsley
Lucy K

I guess it is possible the Gibson names you are researching may be grandchildren to Billy and Elizabeth. I do not have that information on them.

The Tarrance you referenced is still in Sumner County TN as late as the 1870 census. Ancestry.com incorrectly listed him as "France Kerby", born about 1797 in SC.

In the 1860 census, he was listed under "Laurence Kerby", about age 66 and from VA. The enumerator misspelled his name as "Taurence" Kirby.

In the 1850 Sumner County TN census, Ancestry.com lists him under "Yunence" Kirby, and the original enumerator incorrectly spelled the name as "Turrence" Kirby. He is listed as being born about 1794 in SC.

Other records show he received War of 1812 pension payments from the Davidson TN office until about 1861, at which time his payment records were moved to KY offices.

If I were going to follow a lead, it would be this. Start with John and Joannah Kerby of Pittsylvania VA. Two of their sons, David and Francis Kerby moved to the Greenville SC area in the late 1790s. Francis died there in late 1790s, and David packed up most of his sons (Jesse, Leonard, Samuel, Solomon and Asa) and moved to Warren County KY, not too far from Sumner TN. I'll bet both Leonard and Tarrance, listed in the 1820 Sumner census, are sons of one of David's sons.

I think I have Jesse Bradley's Civil War Questionaire, also the lawsuit you are referring to, 60 pages long. In the archives in Nashville, TN, there are 30 plus boxes of documents on the Bradley line. I have a letter written in 1941 to my Father's uncle who died in 1951 that the writer wrote to him. The Bradley's are my line. My GGrandfather (J.L. Woodall) married Mary Jane Bradley. The are buried at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. You can find it on the Sumner County Genealogy Companion Website: I think it is 14.I am interested in all lines mentioned in all replies listed.
I am kin to Kirby's, Woodall's Bradley's. you may contact me direct at bww@nctc.com. I would like information on all lines, regardless of how little it is.
Billy

I am trying to get more info on these Kerbys. My GGGGrandfather was Francis M Kerby who was born in 1794 in SC. I have been told by numerous people that Francis' father was Leonard who is listed right beside Torrance Kerby in Sumner TN Census 1820. There has to be a connection. Could they have been twins?
Any info is appreciated!

Good morning! My name is Dale, and I am the grandson (6x removed) of MAJOR WILLIAM LAUDERDALE. Recently, I have been corresponding with a very nice lady, had some outstanding info on my family background, but an even more recent computer crash put us out of touch.

This Summer, I was in Hartsville, nosing around, but was never able to locate much info.

I do know the Lauderdale cemetary exits, just don't know the particulars/exact location, and who is interred there?

Maj. William Lauderdale is/was NOT interred there, as he died (pulmonary disease 1838(?)) enroute back to Sumner County, at Baton Rougue, LA., having been released from active duty (by "Stonewall"), returning from New River (Ft Lauderdale) FL.

I would appreciate re-establishing my connection with that very nice person, furnished me the initial information, and/or anyone else with detailed info on the family cemetary, and the family in general?

To date, I am missing complete info on two or three generations.

I reside in Florida, and may be contacted @ dalewr99@hotmail.com

I am in the process of building a family website.

Tks, Dale

I am looking for the connection between James Alexander, born in 1855 in TN (my Great Grandfather), and James Alexander born 1813 in TN.

The 1870 Census in Gallatin, Sumner, TN, USA show both James' living together. The senior James is the Head of Household (listed first) and had an occupation of Farmer. There is no wife/mother. There are several white residents and what looks like 6 slaves.

The 1850 Census show the family of James Alexander living in what may be the same location with an occupation of Carpenter. There is a wife Nancy Jane (Dillon) and 6 sons. The youngest was born in 1843 (12 years before my Great Grandfather).

I am not 100% sure of the relationship between the 2 James'. I was thinking the the younger James could have been either a nephew or son.

Any additional information would be greatly appreciated.

They had several children including: George W., Sarah Cramer, James B., Felix Josiah and Cornelia/Permilia. Circa 1840 the family moved to Ray Co., MO. James B.'s father may have been Jacob Turner (1788-1860).

Thanks

He signed his will in 25 Feb 1811 and I am guessing that he may have died that year. He is buried in Rogan Cemetery (Baskerville Cem) located a short distance east of Gallatin TN on Shilo Church Rd. I am told that there is not a stone there. Billy

John and Lucy's grandson, Edward Napier, was my great grandfather, so I am very interested in Lucy's family. Have volumes on the Napier line, but still searching for the correct Cook line. If you can help, I would appreciate it. Will be happy to share anything I have on either of them.

Lucy's father was one Benjamin Cook, Sr. Does that fit into your material? If it doesn't, don't think I need it, but thanks anyway. Jo

Is your Samuel any relation to Cyrus and James Stewart who came to Wilson County, TN from Orange County, NC between 1775 - 1799? James descends from Hugh Stewart of Chester County, PA. Cyrus later moved across the river to Sumner County. Also, at one time Wilson county was part of Sumner county.
