Thanks for your reply! Every census and also some probate records, I have found him in Chatham County, NC. So from this, I am assuming (and you know what that means:>))he was maybe visiting with one of the daughters I have found relocating to Tennessee. Hopefully someday I will be able to find just a little "crumb" as proof!

Sorry- was just reading about those grants. Franklin was actually in the Eastern part of Tennessee- whereas Franklin today is in Middle TN. But I see that the wikipedia website i listed, shows the old areas names as well as the new county names.

Hi- I am not sure of the dates but parts of TN was NC until it later became TN. It maybe that he is buried in an area that later became TN. If you have not already; check the Census for the decade before his death in both NC and TN.
You can read up on the land grants at this website- http://www.tn.gov/tsla/history/guides/guide10.htm another one is -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/State_of_Franklin-
Marshall county Is not that far from Williamson County (Franklin) TN not sure about McNairy.
Hope this helps.

I find the above information on a "tree" at Ancestry.com and am trying to figure out a way to prove/disprove this. I find probate information for him in Chatham County, NC which was his official residence for many years.I have found that 2 of his daughters moved to Tennessee. The surname Tillman to Marshall county and the surname Womble to McNairy county.
Any ideas how I might accomplish this? No info if he was buried in Tennessee or the body transported back to NC.

Hi Jane. Sorry it has been so long in responding to your message. It got by me and I didn't see it until recently. Not much progress in finding the parents of James Watt Hailey. However, I do have proof that he was born in Rocky Fork which fits in with other information I have on the various families. There were not too many Haileys/Haleys living in the Rocky Fork community in the mid 19th century. There was Spencer Haley but we can rule him out since James Watt married Spencer's daughter, Tabitha Haley. They had one child before James Watt went into the Army. Tabitha apparently died while James Watt was in the War. Their only daughter, Josephine later married Alexander Tucker. Many of their descendants still live in the area. That leaves an Edward Haley that was in the area shortly. This Edward Haley may have actually been Edward Taylor Haley that settled eventually in Bedford County. Then there were two Elijah Haleys, one much senior to the other. The younger Elijah could have possibly been a brother or cousin to James Watt. In any event, I'm still looking. Please contact me directly at Haileykoko@aol.com. There's other info that I can give you.

Marriage of Robert L. Ramsey to Mary Elizabeth Mansfield (1935 in Williamson County)

I'm trying to track down my grandfather's sister, Mary Elizabeth Mansfield (we used to call her "Aunt Beth"), and I'm having little luck.

However, I found a marriage record between her and a Robert L. Ramsey for 07 Aug 19, 1935 in Williamson County, Tennessee.

I'm not positive this is her, but it's the only lead I've got beyond the 1910 and 1920 census where she is with other known family members. She was born around 1907 or so.

There is a vague family memory that her husband's name was Bob, which would certainly fit with Robert.

If anyone has this particular Ramsey in their tree, please let me know where I might be able to find out more information. Thanks.

Joshua Burnham of NC/TN

I am looking for information on Joshua Burnham who married Hannah McPherson/MacPherson on 4 Jan 1816 in Williamson Co. By 1840, his widow Hannah was enumerated in Dyer Co, TN, so he died between 1830 and 1840; place of death is currently unknown by me. The 1830 and prior censuses would put his date of birth between 1761 and 1770. I believe he was born in NC; his wife Hannah is shown enumerated with son David in the 1850 census in Dyer Co at age 66, and her stated place of birth is NC, although their children (2 boys and 2 girls at least) appear to have all been born in Williamson Co. Hannah is no longer enumerated with David's family by the 1860 census, so I believe that she passed away before then. It is possible (but unlikely) that she may be living with one of her other children, but I have not been able to find her.

Anyone having information on this family - Joshua or Hannah's parents, the names of their other children, actual birth or death dates, which Burnham family Joshua came from in NC, etc. - who is willing to share would be most appreciated. Thank you for your time.

When was he in Brentwood?

Greetings,

I am trying to track the movements of a relative named
Charles Arthur Senheiser (1928-2005). He was born in New Castle, Indiana, moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana as a child (probably about 12 or so) and moved to Rochester NY in 1961.
Given a recent lead, I wonder if he may have been in Brentwood between Fort Wayne and Rochester.

My question is when did he arrive and when did he leave? Is there a city directory for Brentwood (or are there city directories for Nashville that would include Brentwood)? If it is the same Charles Senheiser, he likely arrived after 1946 and before 1961. I'd love to know dates more specifically.

I'd love to know when he arrived in town and when he left. If he died in Brentwood, then he is not the same person.

I am hoping someone will take this on, as this information might get me closer to solving a deeper mystery about his mother. Any assistance you can provide is appreciated.

Sincerely

Chris Brennan
cristoir@optonline.net

Well, that maybe, but William and Smithy (Smith) Campbell has a daughter named Talitha, who married William Russel James. Two of their sons served in the Civil War and answered the 1911 Confederate Survey with the fact that Talitha Campbell James' parents were WILLIAM and Smithy (Smith) Campbell. Since Talitha lived close to Smithy Smith Campbell (who lived with son Isaiah Campbell), I figure those James might have known who their grandparents were! Look it up in the 1911 Census of Confederate Veteran Volume 2 Surnames E thru Mc; by Bobbie Jones McLane & Capitola Glazner. Tell me what you think?

Unfortunately that is not one of the lines I am working on but the name is one I come across frequently and I will be on the look out. Are you in the area? If so, have you been to the County Archives and public library in Franklin? Both have large collections of documents that might help. Rick Warwick at the Heritage Foundation is also full of information. Good luck!
Tina

My friend Cita Davis is from the DeGraffenreid family. We are trying to link her line with the white slave owner that fathered it. I have her GGGrandfather as Polk born in 1840 in TN. His death record said he was negro and his father was John. They believe they are related through Matthew Fontaine Degraffenreid who was a slave owner showing he was married in Williamson County to Margaret Mclemore. Do you know of this line and anything about it. Being back in the Degraffenreid line there was an American Revolution patriot she wants to prove to join the DAR. If you can help in any way I would greatly appreciate it. Bev

Hello, I am working on a genealogy project for African-Americans in Williamson County. I am not related to these folks, but have been helping about a dozen families research their histories. If you are doing the same, I would love to connect with you -- there is no point in re-inventing the wheel. I am hoping to put together a meeting of anyone researching these families sometime next month (February 2012). Thanks, Tina Jones

I don't know if this is you Steele or not. But there is a TN Steele family about the same time as your deed in KY in this Will. Apparently James Reese/Reed had a wife Mary who was previously married to a Steele and had at least 3 daughters Janey Martha & Hannah.

Your "brother John Steele of Montgomery Co TN deceased" by your 1823 deed fits the time frame for James Reese/Reed's wife Mary's Steele children's father.

And your Moses Steele of Williamson Co TN. Williamson is very close to Maury Co TN.

MAURY CO TN
Will Book D
page 134 Will of James REESE: brothers Hugh REED, William REEDE, Isaiah REEDE, John REEDE; my deceased wife's, Mary REEDE children, Janey STEELE, Martha STEELE, and Hannah FULARTON, deceased heirs;
divide negroes between my brothers and my deceased wife's children, to be divided by Samuel MC DANIEL; Allen LEIPER; Robert CANDON, and Thomas BLACK;
"to Jinney STEELE and Mary CONDON; also my deceased wife's saddle, Anny FULARTON, wife if James FULARTON." John STEELE and John S. WOOD, executors. 6 June 1822. Signed James X REEDE. Witnesses: John L. WOOD and Samuel MC DANIEL. Codical dated 5 March 1823.
