Classification: Query
Surnames: Donnell, Major, Wynne, Phillips, Turner
Jeanette Acklen, Tennessee Bible Records and Marriage Bonds has the following from the Major Family Bible (page 57):
Henry A. Major and Francine L. Donnell married Sept. 29, 1836 in Wilson Co., TN This is also found in Early Middle TN Brides pg 151.
Francine Major married John Wynne 27 Jan 1852 in Wilson Co., This is confirmed in Early Middle TN Grooms pg 340.
That left a 14 year gap. It was odd for that era for a women with children to remain single for so long. How did she support herself and two or three small children????
Francine Wynne married Benjamine Phillips 18 Dec 1861 in Wilson Co., TN. This also is confirmed in Grooms page 429.
3 husbands in 25 years. Though it seems unkind to speak of one's grandmother so skeptically, I can't help wondering if she helped things along a bit. I know those were rough times, but still 3 husbands seems a bit suspicious.
Since Henry Died in 1838 Wilson B. and Martha E. are definitely his children. Possibly Lemuel Henry (b March of 1839) Where does Nancy E.Eugene Major (1849-1885) fit in? she would appear to be born in that lengthy gap between Henry and John Wynne. Hmmm...
With her marriage to Mr Phillips came a son Lemuel who had to be about the same age as her grand daughter Ida Jane Turner!!
I plan to have the photos developed to CD so I can post them on the internet. No promises about quality. I'm just an average photographer. Actually I am hoping to do a bit of photo magic and try to see if I can simulate more what the house would have looked like many years ago.
As for the cemetary....I didn't get to look. My grandmother was getting tired and wanted to move on to Fall Creek Falls where we were spending the weekend. On our way back to Nashville Sunday we went through Smith Co., and she pointed out places of family interest along Highway 70, including another cemetary she didn't want to use time to see. Maybe next year......
Thanks for the correction on Samuel!!
