Wilson County Records 1799 to 1880s

I have numerous early record links to Wilson County settlers from 1799 to the 1880s.

Partlow has done an excellent job on publishing most of the early extant records of Wilson County. However, it quickly becomes evident that many of the early records are missing altogether, for whatever reason. For instance:

1. Only four marriage bonds survived for the period 1799 to 1804 and only two survived from 1805

2. No criminal court minutes exist until 1803 (and only one entry in 1803 and zero in 1804).

3. Only one surviving will was probated for 1799 to 1802 inclusive.

4. Only one inventory or estate sale was recorded prior to 1802.

5. Guardian records prior to 1805 are non-existent and only three total were recorded between 1805 and 1807.

Records after 1807 gradually increase in number, but still do not appear to be entirely complete (particularly until the 1830s to 1850s). No one seems to know what happened to the missing records for certain. As a result, I have accumulated files over the years of records in other counties and states that are linked to early Wilson County settlers, such as:

11 October, 1817: On this date, Henry Chandler Sr. of Wilson County and State of Tennessee appointed Matthew Simms of Halifax County, Virginia as his power of attorney to dispose of property interests in Charlotte County, Virginia and Halifax County, Virginia, his former dwelling place. Others signed the same power of attorney document, as follows:
1. John W. Nichols of Wilson County, TN and Patsey Nichols his wife, daughter of Henry Chandler, Sr.
2. William Chandler, John Chandler, Henry Chandler Jr. and Robert Chandler, all of Wilson County.
3. Patrick Anderson of Wilson County, TN and Fanny Anderson his wife, daughter of Henry Chandler, Sr.
4. Elizabeth Chandler and Achilles Chandler, both of Wilson County in the State of Tennessee.
(I found this particular record on page 164 of Charlotte County, Virginia Deed Book 14).

If you would like me to see if a particular name is mentioned anywhere in my Wilson County record/link files, please contact me in writing at:

Please include the name of your ancestor and specify “Wilson County,” as I maintain files on a number of different counties in different states. I’ll get back to you as soon as I can (one way or the other). Thanks.
