Holloman and Joiner families in Wilson

I am researching a family by the name of Holloman--alternate spellings Halleman, Holliman, Holleman, Hollyman. I believe a man named William Holloman was my 4th gr grandfather. William's wife might have been in the Joiner family. The Joiners also appear to have been in Wilson. The Joiners and Hollomans moved to Pope County IL by the mid 1820s. My 3rd gr grandfather named Hickman Holloman was born in Pope by 1825. His brother Washington was born in TN in 1821.

If anyone out there is researching these families, I'd like to make connections.

Robert Schneider

Does any one know where he moved after he left Wilson Co and was he one of their children or a visitor?

Thank you for any help ahead of time
Brookie

Bert/Burt Smith-b.1835

Bert Smith, (full name thought to be Burtram/Bertram/possibly Bertrand Trammell Smith) b. 1835 in Wilson County (Lebanon), d. 1908 in Lebanon. He married Sarah Elizabeth 'Betty' Fakes (she used the maiden name Brown, also, because her mother remarried to Harrison C Brown when Betty was about 7 years old). in Wilson County. His marriage record says Bertrand Smith.

The 1850 Wilson County census shows a Burtrane (?) Smith, age 12 or 15 (I can't tell which), living in the household of James Hatcher(household #979) in the 6th Civil District.

The next time I find my Bert is:

1860 Lockporte, Dist 6, Wilson Co., TN p. 304:
David Young 32 M/Farmer/Real Property $7000/Personal $1320/b.TN.
Elizabeth Young 33 F/b.VA.
Francis Young 16 F/TN.
David E. Young 13 M/TN/school in yr.
Adaline Young 11 F/TN/school in yr.
Bertrand Smith 25 M/Farm Laborer/TN.

I find Bert/Burt again on the 1880 Wilson County Census which shows the following: Fifth Civil Distrtict, County of Wilson, State of Tennessee Page 10, Supervisor's Dist. No. 3, Enumeration Dist. No. 251
Dwelling 77

Smith, Burtram T 45 farmer TN TN
Sarah B 36 keeping house KY TN TN
Nancy L. 13
James T. 12 works on farm
Sarah F. 9
William B. 7
Laura E. 4
Alexis M. 1 (Denise's note--the name should be Alexon)

Now, I know there were a lot of Smiths in that area at the time but I can't seem to place my Bert/Burt with any of them. I have no idea who his parents were. If anyone here has thoughts on this, I'd love to hear from you. This one is making me crazy! :-)

Thanks!

Nancy Allen m. Jesse Daniel Burris 14 August 1879 in Smith county TN shows up on the Wilson county census of 1880 with her husband and side notation "in labor". I can not find any trace of her or her child after that. Jesse remarries in about 1890 or so to (I think) Mary J. Denney. Does anyone know what became of Nancy? Any death records for Wilson county in 1880? Obituaries?

Does anyone know if there are any Bond/Bonds/Haney family's in the book "People of Wilson County"? My Bond(S) lived in District 23 and 24 of Wilson County. They began to move away after 1850. I have a lot of info on them but can not find any cemetery records. My Haney family lived there in the 1870's.Oliver Haney, Mary M. Haney. Robert Haney, John Haney and Allen Haney. Elizabeth was my great grandmother and I know she moved to Alabama in the early 1880's. Her father Oliver moved back to Alabama and is living there in 1880. The Bond(S) I am most interested in are Robert, Mary Benthal Bond(S), Frances Cawthon Bond(S), Alfred S. Bond(S), and Miron (Myron) D. Bond(S). Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Parham/ Wilson m. 1854

I have come across a couple of enigmatic families, and hope that someone can help fill in the blanks.

Sarah Jane Parham (b 1821) m. Z. D. Wilson(b. 1802) in Wilson Co. in 1854. He is one of the few Wilson's in the area who gives his birthplace as Georgia. Also, I believe it was a second marriage for both.

Sarah's daughter, Martha Jane Parham, later had a son listed as 'Golady'. Found out later his whole name was 'Edward J. Galiday Wilson.' Would this tie-in to any established lines?

Would anybody have a sibling list that ties Zac (not sure if it is Zacheus or Zachariah) Wilson into a line. ANY guidance is appreciated.

Cherilyn Trusty

My greatgrandfather is Stephen Martin Grissom according to his death certificate his parents were John and Mary Grissom of TN. He died in 1935 in Floresville,Wilson Co. TX. He was born in Arkansas in 1847. When I was discussing this with my Aunt Edna Lee she said, his father's name was not John but Randal. I told her John was on the Death Certificate and suggested his name was probably John Randal turns out one of her cousins was named John Randal. So,there you go... SO NOW what happened to Randal Grissom?Stephen Martin Grissom's decedents are now in all over Texas and even out in Idaho and back in Arkansas.

Seeking information about John BANFIELD and wife Tabitha (maiden name unknown). As their first child, Rachel, was born in 1817, I estimate that they were married ca 1815. John Banfield is listed in a couple of early tax lists for Wilson County, and Tabitha is listed as a member of Fall Creek Baptist Church, but otherwise I have no information.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated - thanks! :-)

Lesley A.
INFO ON CAVE FIELD CEMETERY, OFF HI WAY 231 & VESTA RD. WILSON CO. NEAR LEBANON

I am looking for furthur info on Cemetery that has been called Cave, Mt. Carmel, Sanders, & Baskin Cemeteries. There
are not many markers legible.They are:Denny Lane,Marnerva
Lane, J.M.Lane,John B.Zachary,Lon P. Drennon, Albert Oliver
Mary C. Landers, Cullen Sanders, Sallie(Sarah)Baskin, wife
of Cullen Sanders, Moses Woolen, T.J.Drennon. A book in
Archives, Lebanon, by Vincent Simms, also lists Wm. D.,son of Thomas & Mary Sanders,& Lamaza J. Zachary. Sims says that
at one time, this was a very large Cemetery, in a bad state
of repair. Mr. Simms does call this Cemetery, "Cave Field",
and verified by a Lady that lived in these parts, all of
her life, & was kin to the Woollen family.

I would be interested in hearing from anyone who has furthur
knowledge of history on this Cemetery, & others that are
known to be buried here.

Nelda Thompson
Colleyville, TX
I am confused. Geneva Jennings (b. 1854 in Wilson,TN) is the daughter of Joshua L Jennings (b. 1827). She is listed in the 1870 census. She supposedly wed Charles Wesley Stewart between 1870 and 1880, but C.W. Stewart's wife is listed in the 1880 census as M.D. Stewart (Dist 18, Wilson, TN). How do you get M.D. from Geneva? I'm trying to verify that M.D. is actually Geneva Jennings. . .

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Ancestors of Henry Reed (1800 ) and spouse Agnes M Carruth

I need any ancestral information about Henry Reed, born 10 Nov 1800, I believe, in Lebanon, Wilson, TN. and his wife Agnes M "Nancy" Carruth, of the same vicinity. Their marriage bonds were on 27 July 1825, in Lebanon, with a Robert Reed listed as Bondsman. They had two children, both born in Tennessee, Mary Jane, and Walter C. Reed. The family migrated first to Arkansas and then to Texas, arriving in 1835. Wilson County history mentions that an early settler, of Barton's Creek, in 1796 was Henry Reed. Could this be the father of my Henry Reed, and the Bondsman Robert Reed? Another early settler to Wilson County, at Spring Creek was listed as Walter Carrouth (Carruth). This could be the family of Agnes M. Carruth. Walter's given name could have been handed down to Agnes's son, Walter C. Any information will be greatly appreciated.
HASS married into these families: GATTON, CHUMMEY, WARREN, DUNN, WILLIAMS, SADLER. Since some of the HASS kids married siblings of other families (SADLER, DUNN) I've kept open the possibility that John and Frankie could be siblings.

Would greatly appreciate any info or suggestions.
Was Wilson co Tn Washington co North Carolina at one time?

I have read that the area that became Wilso co Tn was originally Washingtonco North Carolina. If I understand it right Wilson co Tn as formed from Sumner co TN which was formed from Davidson co Tn whcih was forme from Washington co TN which was the entire state of Tennessee which at one time was Washington co NC and the NC legislature ceded the entire area that was Washington co NC to orm the state of Tn and at one time the area that was Washington co Tn was Washington co NC. Would anyone know if that is tru and if so if my ancestors settled in Washington co NC about 1780 then the land they bought was in Wilson co Tn in the 1820's. Where would I find the land records where they bought the land in Washington co NC? There is a Washington co NC but it was formed later in another part of NC. When Washingto co NC became Washington co TN then Washington co NC ceased to be a county in NC so where did the land records go? Thanks

I have a marriage record for my husband's direct ancestors:

Benjamin Clifton married Harriett B. Brant January 17, 1844 Wilson County, Tennessee

My problem is that I can find no one with the surname BRANT in Wilson County. Does anyone have access to the original record for this marriage who can check to see if the bride's last name could be mis-spelled. This name really has me stuck.

Thanks

Karen
Jefferson County, IL

He states, "l do hereby certify the foregoing is be a true and perfect copy of the will of J.W. McCaslin such as appears of record in my Office. Witness my hand and seal of office at Office on this the 6th day of August 1878."
Everett Rogers and daughters, NC, TN

Seeking info regarding daughters of Everett Rogers of Martin Co, NC (b. abt 1770 Martin Co, NC; d. bet 1850-1860 in Smith Co, TX). We believe Everett had 2 daughters; one named Drupina (Piney) and one named Margaret. We know that Margaret married Christopher Columbus Alexander and they had a daughter named Armissa/Armiza. Druprina married John M. Cooper and they also had a daughter named Armissa/Armiza. (Could this be the name of Everett's spouse who is unknown at this time?)

Christopher Columbus Alexander's parents were Margaret Cooper and Ezekiel Alexander. John M. Cooper's parents were Christopher Cooper and Permelia Hogg. Margaret Cooper's parents were also Christopher Cooper and Permelia Hogg.

John M. Cooper married Drupina (Piney) Rogers in 1813 in Wilson Co, TN (Wilson Co, TN marriage records). Christopher Columbus Alexander m. Margaret Rogers abt 1813 in Martin Co, NC (no documentation).

These families appear to have migrated together around the southeastern states (VA, NC, TN, AR, TX) in the early 1800s.

Here are 2 URLS that show what we believe to be the connections:

Drupina "Piney Rogers:
http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&...

Everett Rogers and Daughter, Margaret:
http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&...

Anyone with information on any of these families, please post so others may learn.

Lois ljfljf@psyber.com

I am looking for any information (parents, children, siblings, etc.) for the following family:

HILLARD A.WATKINS was born May 30, 1842 in Wilson County, Tennessee, and died November 09, 1925 in Seminary Township, Fayette County, Illinois. He married AMANDA ROBINSON February 11, 1868 in Foster Township, Marion County, illinois. She was born June 08, 1850 in Shelby County, Illinois, and died July 18, 1922 in Pope Township, Fayette County, Illinois. This family supposedly came to Illinois from TN with the Hopkins family. There is a chance that Hillard Watkins was adopted.
Child: ROBERT CEYMORE WATKINS, b. August 07, 1870; d. 1962.

Other Watkins possibilities or leads I am looking in to that may be related but I cannot prove yet:

WILSON County, TN
Moses 1837
Robert
Samuel G. 1846
Richard 1815
Solomon 1823
Geoge W. 1829

Thank you in advance for any help you may be able to offer.
Donald Trumbo
trumbodr@yahoo.com

I am doing some research to find out where exactly Rev. James M. or James Madison Phillips is buried. He was born about Feb 1840 in Tennessee. His wife name is Lucy was born about 1850 in Mississippi. They both disapear from the census after 1910. I have information that he died in 1911 in Nasville, TN and Lucy in 1914.

Somebody said James is buried in Olivet Cemetery in Davidson Co., TN but no at Olivet can find him. I have the Phillips family all in Wilson County in the 1910 census. If anyone can tell me which cemetery Rev. James M. Phillips (born 1840 - abt. 1911) it would be helpful. This is being done for a church project.

I am looking for the father of my GGG Grandfather John Sims. He was born in VA in 1800/1801 and moved to Wilson Co., TN., I believe as a child, where he later married Elizabeth Caplinger in Aug 1824. They moved to Marion, Williamson Co., IL. approx 1837-38. My lineage from John is Cyrus Sims, Thomas Jefferson Sims, Cyrous Jefferson Sims, Ray Leroy Sims, then me. My grandfather Cyrous always said that we were from Ireland. Trying to ultimately trace to the country of my origin and when we sailed over.

Curious about the unknown Hewgley branches in Middle Tennessee

My father was Willie Miller (Estes) Hewgley, born in Gladeville to Victoria Estes Hewgley and Robert Hewgley on May 22,1919. His siblings were Myra,John,Ensor,Lucy,Nannie Elizabeth,Birdie,Tom & James. His name was changed upon joining the Navy in WWII to William Miller Hewgley at the demand of a lady enrolling him at the Union Station in Nashville. As we have gotten older and bumped into completely unknown, but close branches of the family in Nashville area, I am just curious if someone knows how such a large, close group in Wilson County split? Was it the Civil War? I am also curious about how the name evolved from Huguelet,Hugulet,Hugley, etc.

I am William Miller Hewgley, Jr. born April 15,1951 in Chattanooga to William and Johnnie Bell Legg Hewgley of Jasper, TN. I married Jan Galen Storey of South Pittsburg, TN in 1971 and we have two children: Beth Galen Hewgley on 11/24/76 and Joseph William Hewgley on 02/28/78.
Hi,
My gggrandfather was Spencer Coleman Swain born about 1845 in TN with both parents born in TN per the 1880 census.
At LDS there is a William Swain born <1819> married to a Nancy Webb born <1823> both in Wilson County, Tennessee.
It has them married 3 Feb 1844 in Wilson County, Tennessee.
In the 1850 census in Dyer County, TN there is a:

Nancy Swain born about 1825 TN
SC Swain born about 1845 TN
JH Swain born about 1848 TN

They are living next to a Webb family.

In the 1860 census in Wilson County, TN there is a:

Nancy T Swain born about 1827 TN
Coleman Swain born about 1845 TN
William Swain born about 1848 TN
Sarah Swain born about 1852 TN
Martha Swain born about 1855 TN
Delana Swain born about 1858 TN

There is a William Swain born about 1820 in the 1850 census and 1830 in the 1860 census in Wilson County. I'm thinking that it is the same William with a mistake in the years.
In the 1850 census he is shown as William W and is living with William M, Nancy and Joseph M Swain.
In the 1860 census he is living with the Francis and Nancy Dillard family. Francis Dillard married a Nancy Swain and
Francis's brother Andrew Jack married a Rebecca Swain.
His brother William Henry married a Kate Swain.
William W Swain is the son of William M Swain born about 1782 in North Carolina.
They are all in Wilson County in the 1850 census.

Spencer Coleman Swain married Susan Caroline Miller. They are in Wise County, TX in the 1880 census.

Their children are:

Clara Hadassah born 1880 TX
Sarah Ann born 1883 TX
William Abram born 1886 TX
James S. born 1889 TX
Millard Lee born 1895 Indian Territory

I'm thinking that Spencer Coleman's father's name is William because they named their first son William Abram and her fa
