Surnames: Smith
Hey,

My name is Chad Smith. I have always loved Family History and I have enjoyed this website a whole bunch. I have been able to put the pieces together not only for my Family Tree but for my Wife as well.

I have not had any problems except when it comes to my last name. Smith. This is one of the areas of my Family Tree that means alot to me because it's my surname.

I'm needing help when it comes to researching my Great Grandfather.

According to the Census from 1930-1940 his name is listed as John H. Smith. I have been told through family that his middle name was Henry.

When I first signed up to Ancestry several years ago...there were a couple leads and I believed them to be true but they turned out false.

There are some accounts that has his parents Jacob Smith and Ester Brown. This is not true because according to the 1930 Census his Father was born in Missouri. Jacob Smith was born in Tennessee.

My Great Grandfather

John H.(Henry) Smith

My Grandfather

John Ray Smith
.............................
John Ray Smith was born December 17, 1924

He was born in Houston, Texas.

According to the 1930 Census:

1. John H Smith was 56 years old.

2. He was born in Tennessee

3. His Father was born in Missouri

4. His Mother was born in Tennessee

5. His wife was Maggie S Smith (He Maiden name was Stutz)

6. They lived in Houston, Texas
.....................................

1940 Census:

1. He is listed at 69 years old.

2. He is married to Margaret Smith. This is Maggie.

3. They lived in Houston, Texas.
......................................

That's all that I have.

He is believed to be born around 1871.

John Henry Smith was a popular name at the time. So, it's been hard while researching to find more information. I have been trying my best to find any John Henry Smith that was born in Tennessee around 1871 and hoping that his Father was listed as being born in Missouri.
.........................................

If you could help me out...it would mean alot.

Thank you,

Chad
