The Jennie Kerr we are looking for is Hannah (hana) Jennie (jenny) Dearth who was married to Emory (emery) Kerr. She died in 1892 a week after giving birth to twins (polk county MO) The twins also died that same year, but we can find no trace of their burials. Her parents Michael (micheal) and Maria (maryah, mariah) have also no records of deaths or burials. My grandfather is Troy who was her only living son and Margaret is from her only living daughter Oma Inez. I traced herfamily back but so far have only names of brothers and sisters from 1880 census.

I do not have a birth certificate or an obituary. The marriage record book states both of Robert's parents are unknown. His death certificate is signed by his second wife. His father is listed as unknown. For mother's maiden name there are two names on the line and it is hard to make out the first word. The first three letters spell Mar, but the last few letters are not that clear. It looks like it could be Marqutt or Marquet or Margret and then Hicks is the name after that.

It is unknown if that is a maiden surname and then a married surname or if it's a first name and a last name, or if the second wife did not know the mother's maiden name. If the mother's maiden name was Hicks, then did she marry a relative with the same last name or maybe she never married.

I need to correct myself a bit. About 50% of the earliest deed books A thru I and L are missing. The other approximate half are intact and in the deed Registers office which, by the way, are all digitized now and that is a simply amazing thing. A god-send to researchers.

There has been NO fires at the Monroe County court house. All records with the exception of the earliest to the 1854 COUNTY court records still exist. www.tngenweb.org/monroe www.rootsweb.com/~tnmonroe Be sure to follow the link to Monroe County archives. There is one main branch of Hicks in this county. That of Abraham Hicks of Blount CO then to Monroe. He was one of the first settlers of the county. You might want to check his descendents.

BTW those county court records were destroyed about the time of the War Between the States.

Robert Walker Bear Hicks

I am looking for information on the parents or siblings of my great grandfather Robert Walker Hicks who was born in Monroe County, Tennessee in 1866. He went by the name "Walker Bear". So far I have been unable to find any information on the names of the parents for Robert Hicks, or if he had any brothers or sisters. The fire at the courthouse there seems to have removed all written traces of Robert Hicks.

The 1900 Federal Census shows Robert, along with his second wife Lou, living next door to John Hicks. John had a son named John who also went by the name Walker Bear. Robert was a year younger than the younger John, and the two Walker Bear Hicks married sisters. Robert married Amanda Jane Hale and John married Nancy Hale.

According to family lore, Robert Hicks was of Choctaw heritage, perhaps 100%. It is possible that his grandparents were part of the forced migration that started in 1938. I believe the Choctaw were the first tribe forcibly relocated.

If you can provide information on the parents or siblings of Robert Walker Bear Hicks I would be so grateful. Thanks!!
I do not know if this is relevant to your search but thought to make mention of it anyway. In the 1830's there was a gentleman named Ransom J. Moore who lived a short distance from Monroe Co and inside McMinn Co. He was a postmaster in the 1830's at Wolverton Post office. I haven't researched him a lot but do know he is on a census record or two and named in county court documents for jury duty, election commissioner or the like. I've not seen a list of his children or his wife....but haven't looked as much as could be.

Williford marriage, parents, maiden name?

Trying to find a marriage record for my g-ggrandfather, John B. Williford and wife, Celia _____. Both were born c. 1800 in NC, but had 3 children in TN between 1824-28, then moved to IL where rest were born. Unsure of Celia's maiden name, exact year of marriage. Presume between 1817 - 1824, but have been unable to locate any definitive records. Also unsure if Celia was nickname or middle name, but all records I do have list this as her name consistently. She died in IL in 1851 and John B. remarried. Would also love to know who John B.'s parents were...again, none of my leads have panned out, despite a wealth of documentation on the surname. Any help greatly appreciated!

Thank You for the info, I do believe I have seen that at one time. Some people seemed to really move around a lot back then. I am currently looking at the first wife family members to try and locate where they were all at when census data was taken. The person I am looking for does not show up in the 1930 or 1940 census, but there were so many spelling mistakes back then on census reports, it is daunting looking for misspelled names as well. Thanks for the info, I will double check it to make sure.

They seem to disappear from the 1930 and 1940 census, but I know they were in AR in 1934 for the birth of their son. What is strange is that he was married 3 times, yet I can find no hard data, he had two girls by one of the women and no info on those as well. Just a nitemare here as I have good info on all but this one single person.

There is a marriage record in Surry Co. NC for a Joseph Coker and Mary Brown in April of 1800. I know it's a stretch, but is still possible, esp. if she was his 2nd wife and much younger. The 1830 fed. census for Franklin Co. TN has 2 Joseph Cokers, both with at least one female under 5 years old. However, reported males wouldn't be old enough to have been married in 1800...still, interesting.

My Cokers in TN were in Monroe/McMinn and Polk Counties, but most moved to Hamilton Co, IL between 1830 - 1850. I have a Joseph, but he is born 1819 and is son of William Coker and Catherine Huffman. Good luck on your search!
Mary

Reuben Hale was born 1802 in Tennessee, according to all his census listings and his tombstone. Reuben is listed in the 1830 census in Smith County, TN. I do not know which county Reuben Hale was born in. (I know that there was another Reuben Hale who was born in 1813,[who was a son of Nathaniel Hale]but the Reuben Hale I am referring to was definitely(!!) was born 1802 in TN) I need to know who the father of the 1802 Reuben Hale was. Please help me. I have been looking for 12 years for Reuben's father. Any help would be appreciated. Brian

W.A. Miller that married Louise A. Kemp

The only thing that I know about W.A. Miller was that he was born in Tennessee, and that he married a woman named Louise A. Kemp in Wharton County, Texas in 1867. I believe that he stayed in Texas. They had a daughter named Willie Elizabeth in 1869. I'm not sure if they divorced or he died, but by 1876, Louise had married another man. I suspect that W.A. Miller was born in Tennessee based on info listed on the 1900 Census by his daughter Willie. If anyone knows anything about this man or his family, please let me know. Thanks! Kim

Mr. H Lacey

I am looking for any information anyone may have on a Mr. H Lacey. He was found in the 1860 census of Winn Parish, Louisiana. He would have been born in Tennessee around 1834. He probably would have been someone very affluent considering his personal value was worth $6000. He was with my group of Laceys that came through Alabama, but were born in South Carolina. In the census he is marked as female, but is very clearly a male unless maybe this would have been the wife of H. Lacey. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There is a tree on Ancestry that appears to have the correct info on Jane going back to grandparents & beyond.

If you would like I could post a message to the person who has the tree with your email address so she can contact you. However she has not logged into Ancestry sence last month. Therefore it may take awhile for her to respond if she will.

JUW

I have only just checked the other threads that I have posted. I have posted in Alabama and United States General board as well. I have had a response in Alabama saying that Jane Miles married a William Carmon in Tennesse and I have a census list for them in 1850 with what looks like 10 children. If there is any other information people can give me, like when she arrived in the US and I know its a long shot but why she went to America when all of her family are in the UK.
