Classification: Query
Surnames: Richeson, Selman
My grandfather's name was John Thomas Richeson. His father's name was Everette Richeson and his father's name was Jacob Richeson and his father's name was Abraham Richeson (Cohen) from Tennessee. They lived around Mansfield, Burleson and all over Johnson County, after moving away from the original fort, in what is now Fort Worth. Everete was indeed married to Nancy Selman who was his second wife. Coming through her side of the family I had a great, great, great uncle John Selman who was a Texas Ranger who worked in El Paso as a railroad ranger in the late 1800's. Legend has it he is the one who killed John Wesly Hardin the outlaw while in El Paso. Legend also has it there was a name change somwhere between Tennesse and Texas when the family came before the civil war. Story says our last name may have been Cohen befor being changed to Richeson. Something to do with a gunfight involving a woman. I have also heard that it had something to do wih a stolen hog. Hard to say. Since I only have a temporary membership on this site here is my e-mail address: dbr.conner @gmail.com. Be happy to hear from you.
