George,

The following are the census readings for Jose Gregorio Esparza who died March 6, 1836. The census are from 1817 - 1831 from Bario del Norte, San Fernando de Bexar today known as San Antonio, Texas. In the 1826 census, the census was for Barrio del Norte, Eastern District of Valero. I wonder exactly where they lived in downtown San Antonio, in relationship to The Alamo. :>)

The census readings are all from the same source and typed by myself with my comments about age and relationships.
One thing, Juan Antonio Esparza husband of Ana Petra de Olives, died 18 Jul 1811. I did not find a record of death for Ana Petra de Olivas in the San Fernando Church Burials. She died after June 15, 1832.

Regards,
Nancy

Residents of Texas 1782-1836, Volume II,
The University of Texas Institute of Texan Cultures.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
1817 CENSUS, San Fernando de Bexar, Barrio del Norte
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
July 21, 1817.
Page: 123.

Family No. 188
Petra LIBAS, age: 50,
Francisco ESPARZA, age: 12, -
Hello Beni,

I am of course Lydia, from Houston, Texas. I am happy you posted something, because we have literally come to a dead end regarding my maternal grandmother whose name was Irene or Yrena Sendejo, who was married to Tomas Lee Roy Goins, from Jourdanton, Texas and lived there many years. We believe she may have moved on to Corpus Christi, after her husband's death. I think she may have remarried after this (not certain). We don't know if these are facts or just hearsay. Which is why we want to track down relatives from the "Sendejo" side. My mother's name was Nellie Goins.

I hope to hear back from you. lgs

There is a cemetery on the west side of the town limits. I haven't been there in 20 years, but it is where my grandparents (Ollie Horton Pilgrim and Izetta May Pilgrim) and many other Pilgrims are buried. Drive through town and it is on the south side of the road outside thetown limits. There was a low chainlink fence across the road frontage. I don't know if your specific relatives are there, but this is the "official" Lytle cemetery.

A friend just told me this: "In regards to the Campbellton Cemetery. A lot of people get Oakley Cemetery confused with Campbellton Cemetery. It is on Hardy Road just off Campbellton Road, and Oakley Cem is also sometimes called Campbellton Cem., Hardy Cem., or Goins Cem."

Suggest both a name search and cemetery name look up at www.FindAGrave.com.
The Usgenweb list for Campbellton Cem. at Atascosa Co. is: txgenweb4.org/txatascosa/Campbelltoncem.htm. I believe this is not a survey but a selected list as I have turned up so many Johnson and McAca burials at Campbellton Cem. I even was sent 3 photos with the sign on a fence in front of them referring to the Cambellton Cem. Association. Still haven't gotten the full story on the cemetery. Hope the list is helpful to you.

For what it is worth!!! This family is a difficult search! Death certificate for Louise Troutz (15 Mar 1880 - 24 Apr 1919) indicates she died in San Antonio. Parents identified as George Troutz and Mary Walter. In 1910 Bexar-San Antonio Ward 2-District 9-page 4 and 5, find a widowed Mary Troutz age 52. Children were: Loweler[possibly Louise?] age 29, Mamie age 18, Nancy age 16[19 Aug 1893 - 3 Jan 1962], Frank age 14[possibly Earl Franklin{12 Nov 1896 - 22 Oct 1959}, and Clifford age 8. Methinks the person interpreted as "Lutha" was possibly a daughter "Leetha"/"Leatha"? Cannot prove it, just food for thought!

Hi Celia...
I'm happy to say that I do have info for you: In researching the family of my great grandfather, Antonio Valdez Garza (b.1857), I found that his father was Salome Valdez, who had a brother, named Francisco Valdez, married to Florentina Herrera. They also had a son named Antonio Valdez (b.1862) that was baptized in Losoya at St.Carmen Church. Salome had a land grant in 1881 in Atascosa County,TX. but ended up in San Antonio TX. Salome and Francisco were born to Jose Vincente Valdez and Ramona Gonzalez in Cerralvo, Mexico. They had at least 6 other children. It seems each family had an Antonio, which makes researching a real challenge! Please contact me if you would like more info...I'm still looking. I guess we're distant cousins!!!

I would like to verify several Johnson and McAda burials listed in obits as to be in the "Campbellton Cemetery". The only info online I found was mostly hispanic names. PERSI didn't seem to have any articles of a local gen soc that surveyed Campbellton Cem. either. Anyone know of a published survey of that cemetery or where I should write or call? Many thanks for any suggestions!

About 1855 several immigrant families from Prussian-controlled Poland settled in Las Gallinas. Those I'm aware of are John Korus wife Strzelczyk, Casper Kalka wife Kolibaba (brother to Joseph in Bandera), and Joseph Kindla wife Korus/Kolonko, buried in St Joseph Cemetery,Leming.
Each of these 3 families donated an acre to St. Joseph Church when it was being organized.

My questions: When was church was destroyed by fire?
What happened to the big bell (donated by Kindla) which survived the fire, and was later stolen from its monument?
Does anyone know of a picture of the bell?

Most interested in history of this area.
Dear Donna,

It looks like we have a not-so distant relation in Major Clayton Loggains and Willie Luana Pate, my great-grandfather's sister.

Of course, if you have any information on Lewis Robert Pate, grandfather of Willie, I'm dying to hear it. I've just started down this path, and Lewis is the end of the trail so far.

I'm descended from Willie's brother, Wiley Lee Pate. I'm quite ecstatic to find another cousin. I hope this message finds your family and you doing well.

If you are not near enough to visit the cemetery you might try www.findagrave.com

There are sometimes volunteers that live near that will search for the grave (if it has a marker) and photograph it and put on the webpage.

Elsie

Wow, my family would love to see our gg grandfather George Troutz. He is the father of my g grandfather James Walter Troutz, who then had my grandfather James Vanderhoef Troutz. My mom is Jamie Troutz. We are stuck because apparently the courthouse with records for my great grandmother burned, either Carrie Lottie Rose Vanderhoef or Sally Gibson. Any information you would be willing to share is greatly appreciated!
thanks,laurel

Lois-if this is the correct Joseph and Anastacia Kindla, then it is greatly possible that they were the parents of my great-grandmother, Annie, and Annie did tell her daughter, Bernice, that her mother had died when she was young, and that the woman her father was married to was his second wife and not her mother. A second bonus to this point is that all of the sibling names match up with my grandmother's aunts and uncles, so I'm pretty sure that Joseph was indeed married twice, and it looks like Anastacia (last name) was the mother of most of the children, and the second wife raised most of them.
-S
