Thanks for your message. I have done much research on the descendants of Richard Brownrigg of North Carolina. At present I am away from home and the relevant records to be able to reply to you in detail.
I am married to a Brownrigg who is a very distant cousin of
Richard mentioned above. My husband also left Ireland but his ancestors settled for 3 generations in Argentina. We now live in Costa Rica.
Ann

My uncle was, William Wade "Jack" McKinley, born April 7,1927 in Sinten,San Patricio,Texas. His parents were,Charles Talmage McKinley and Annie Nettie Norvell.William was said, to have been adopted by his grandparents,James Robert Norvell and Nancy Jane "Jennie" Harris. My mother told us that,James and Nancy, changed Williams name to, Jack Norvell. His headstone and death notice has him under,Jack Norvell. My mother also told us that,Jack was married, but no one knew the name of the woman he married. An other member of the family found a document stating that, he was married, but there was no name of his spouse.Uncle Jack was also in the Navy, but we can't find any thing on that either. He joined,Dec.14,1942.We would appreciation any information to prove these facts.
Thank you for your time.

She was born around 1919. He lived in Grant County at Cordova. They married and moved to Iowa and have not been heard of since. Would appreciate any info concerning either and if there are any children, would like to put them in touch with their cousins.

I have access to the paid side of Ancestry through a friend. Generally, that's adequate for my needs (since the bulk of my recent research has been in Spain) but it induces a delay between the time I think of something and when I can check on Ancestry. I also find that Ancestry is often of only limited help with thorny questions since so many people seem to be in the habit of copying and posting unsourced information.

I'm looking at Oklahoma D.C.s right now. It looks like they never transferred any to the State Archives, as has been done in many states. I might pursue the D.C. after the Holidays. Right now, I'm trying to contact other researchers with an interest in this family. No sense in reinventing the wheel.

Thanks again for your help.

Oh! You do not subscribe to ancestry.com? No wonder my research "amazed" you! (lol) If some of the other frequent contributors had "beat me to the punch", you would have even more data. Thanks for explaining the surname! Betting you probably know more information on Maggie's ancestry than her descendants? Will you pursue death certificate on her mom?

I'm in contact with Shirley Bray who entered the headstone photos and data for the Thomas and Mary Edwards in the FindAGrave site. She believes that the 1918 date is a carver's error and that the actual date is 1928. I'll take a look at that Ancestry.com tree as soon as I can get on a friend's paid account.
You are welcome! Per familysearch.org, Mary Anne (Childerson) Edwards died 18 Feb 1948 in Tillman County, OK. May or may not be true? There is also data reflecting her husband's death 13 Dec 1918 in the same locale. Hard to understand how husband, wife, and three children were enumerated in 1920 OK-Tillman-Frederick-167-Image 27? Moses Thomas Emanuel (Maggie's spouse) is on a family tree viewable at http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/5710545/person/-153182822. Almost certain you have observed reversals of first and middle names? That's the case with Moses. He's identified as Thomas M. Emanuel in 1900 TX-Parker-Pct 4-73-Image 28 and Thomas Emanuel in 1910 OK-Tillman-Frederick Ward 1-District 248-Image 1.

Well, and you say you're not related. That's scary. I'm impressed. The surnames Childerstone, Childerston, Childerson and Chillison are all one in the same. Childerston is the Saxon root name, meaning place of the non-inheriting children. The English like to add "e" to the end of names (e.g. Smithe) so you get Childerstone. Childerson is a conscious or unconscious softening of the name and Chillison is what happens when the name travels south. I've seen it spelled three different ways in a single document. The surname in the US is a hobby of mine. I only recently stumbled upon Mary Anne Childerson Edwards
(http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=34...;)
and believe that she may be a stray daughter of Richard J. Childerson (1843-ca 1894).

Thanks for the information. I may give the family a call tomorrow.
What is the correct spelling for the surname you are researching? Maggie's death certificate indicates her mom was Mary Ann Childerson. Younger brother Raymond's death certificate spells the surname Chillison? View his document at http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#start Life span 20 Aug 1903 - 9 May 1958, born in Frederick, Tillman, OK and died in Littlefield, Lamb, TX. Raymond Olen/O'dell Edwards and Delores June Stanton were parents of: Vickie Cleo Etta-30 Jan 1957-Lamb and Tom Stanton-12 Jun 1959-Lubbock. Death certificate for Moses Thomas Emanuel (24 Dec 1893 - 22 Oct 1971) is also viewable at the pilot search address.

Not related and cannot provide an obit! You may not need one after this? Mrs Ernest Brock aka Dorothy Lee Emanuel (21 Aug 1923 - 29 Mar 2004) listed on SSDI with last benefits paid to an address in Lubbock, TX. Her husband Ernest Henry Brock (11 May 1919 - 23 Apr 1994) also on SSDI with last money paid to an address in Lubbock. Lubbock and the surrounding counties should be your focus. Ernest and Dorothy were parents of: Carolyn Evalene-8 Jun 1948 and Rudy Kipling-8 Oct 1951, both born in Lamb County. Carolyn Brock and Donald Ray Dillard were parents of: Dee Shannon-1 Mar 1967 and Laurel Lashelle-23 Oct 1970, both born in Tarrant County. Rudy Brock and Janice Marie Davis were parents of Katherine Jeannette-27 Oct 1974 in Bailey County. Ready? There is a public telephone listing in Hale County for R. K. Brock (806) 296-0047.
ELROD families of Smith Co., TN; Bailey Co., TX; and Bryan Co., OK.

I am searching for information on the Elrod families of Smith Co., TN; Bailey Co., TX; and Bryan Co., OK.

This is not my line; however, I want to do something for a very kind man, Roy Holland Elrod, who is the widower of a distant cousin. Roy's wife was Malda Scheihagen (Chandler) Elrod. To the extent that I can "quickly" put together a family history for him, I'd like to do so relatively soon.

The thumbnail of his ancestry is that he descends from:
1. Ephriam and Nancy Ann (McDonald) Elrod
2. William E. and Mary Catherine "Kit" (Heard) Elrod
3. William Trousdale and Cordelia (Holland) Elrod
4. Roy Holland and Nina (Wallace) Elrod
5. Roy Jr. m. Malda ... they had no children.

Roy is 89 and would very much like to make contact with some of the descendants of his aunts/uncles, etc.

William Trousdale Elrod's children were:
1. Jesse Lee Elrod b. Bonham, TX d. San Angelo, TX
2. Roy himself b. Muleshoe, Bailey Co., TX
3. Helen Elrod b. OK
4. Carl Curtis Elrod b. OK d. San Angelo, TX
5. Novilla Elrod b. OK
6. Thomas J Elrod b. OK
7. William H Elrod b. OK

William Trousdale Elrod and Cordelia (Holland) Elrod both died in Texas. William Trousdale Elrod was born in Smith Co., TN. He may have married Cordelia in Smith Co., TN?

What I have above is about all I know at present.

If you descend from one of the above people, please contact me at:
mcowan @ erols.com

I noticed you were looking for info on Jesse Lee Elrod and his wife, Minnie H_____ Kennedy.
If you can share info with me about his family ... down to today's descendants, I'd be most grateful.

Many thanks.

Your query is somewhat confusing. TITLED "GE" posted to Bailey county Texas regarding Ethal Lee Bailey.

You should post to BAILEY SURNAME not this county board. What is the GE for ?

NO person listed as Ethel L/Lee Bailey in Mercer CO WV in 1900 census. No Wm Patton Fletcher either, following Ethel Fletcher matching criteria is in Beaver Pond, Mercer CO WV in 1910 married 5 yrs with two children husband listed as Dudley Fletcher. You should recognize children's names?
There were Bailey's listed in Beaver Pond in 1900 but no Ethel Bailey.

May 1910; Census Place: Beaver Pond, Mercer, West Virginia; Roll: T624_1689; Page: 12A; Enumeration District: 205; Image: 589
Dwelling # 205
Dudley Fletcher age 28 married 5 yrs born VA parents VA painter
Ethel Fletcher age 21 born WV parents WV
Rachel Fletcher age 4 born appx 1906 WV
Okey Fletcher age 1 son appx 1908

Dwelling # 206
Lewis Bailey age 25 married 5 yrs born WV
Nanny wife age 20
Bertha age 4
Ethel age 2

Dwelling # 207
Charles Fletcher age 26 WV married 6 yrs
Pearl wife age 23 1887
Zella age 3
Elisa age 1

25 Bailey families counted in Beaver Pond in 1910, could not find the above Lewis Bailey who lived between to two Fletcher's in the 1900 record either and no males listed as Dudley Fletcher or Wm Fletcher born abt 1881.

1920;Census Place: East River, Mercer, West Virginia; Roll: T625_1963; Page: 28A; Enumeration District: 88; Image: 184.
W F Fletcher age 39 born WV 1881
Ethel age 32 1888
Rachell age 13
Okie age 11
Marvin age 7
Elizabeth age 3 5/12
Esther age 1 11/12
Maggie Fletcher age 19 sister 1901 WV - could not find Maggie/Margaret in 1910 record.

W F/P and Dudley appear to be same person and rechecked Beaver Pond and East River in 1900 and still did not find her nor a Lewis S Bailey born 1884. Did not find W P / Dudley Fletcher in 1900 record either.

No WW I Draft registration found for your W P Fletcher. Lewis Shufflebarger Bailey born 17 May 1884 registered in Mercer county.

1930; Census Place: Garden, Buchanan, Virginia; Roll: 2438; Page: 7A; Enumeration District: 1; Image: 9.0.
William P Fletcher 48
Ethel D Fletcher 42
Rachel F Fletcher 28
Oska Fletcher 21
Marvin Fletcher 18
Mary E Fletcher 14
Esther Fletcher 12
Bessie Lee Fletcher 9
Raymond Fletcher 6
Ruth G Fletcher 3 11/12
Mazel D Fletcher 1 1/12
Will J Elswick 75 boarder

1920;Census Place: Beaver Pond, Mercer, West Virginia; Roll: T625_1963; Page: 5B; Enumeration District: 83; Image: 918
Barger Bailey age 35 - Lewis Shufflebarger Bailey
Nellie Bailey age 24 - 2nd wife 1896 VA
Ethel J age 12 1908
Georgia F age 8 1912
Lennie I age 2 dtr 1918

Unable to find Lewis Bailey and family in 1930 census. Checked for surname Shufflebarger and found some to be in Bluefield, Mercer county in census records assuming Lewis' mother could be a Shufflebarger.

Death certificate possibly would have her parents name on it.
