Hello Nancy,
Today you have made two ladies very happy. Julia of
Louisiana has been researching her family, one of them being
Salina, for a long time! I found out about Dr. Christopher
Dabbs in 2007. We wanted to find out about where
Salina lived out her last years. We had her in TX Census records and her death certificate. We knew from it, that her father was "Dr Kit
Dabbs" and therefore this
Salina was our
Salina!!!
Julia has in her posession an excerpt from a young girl's diary dated Jan 6, 1864 about Dr. Dabbs telling them of his trip to
Washington Co,
Texas. Her description of Dr. Dabbs and "
Washington Co is quite thickly settled with substantial and cultivated people, and it is a very pleasant country, his account of San antonio was most interesting to me..." made Julia and I believe that the people in TX was his daughter's relatives through her mother S.S. (Hunt)
Dabbs, his first wife.
The census records in TX shows
Salina enumerated with Hunts. Do you know anything of these Hunt families? Can you tell us the name of Salina's mother. Maybe
Salina Sarah or Sarah
Salina??? Salina's name from a
Louisiana Census is M. Salina
Dabbs. We do not know what the 'M' stands for either!!
Thank you again for helping us fill-in more of our family history. Do you know any of the descendants of these Hunt families who took in a unmarried lady and helped maker her later years more bearable and not so lonely. She was left with no family to speak of. Her parents gone, her two brothers gone, a sister who died so young in life gone, so she was without close family. The Hunts of
Texas took her in and gave her an extended family. We are so glad!
If you would pass along (if at all possible) to some of her relatives in
Texas that we would like to "talk" to them, we would be most appreciative.
God
Bless,
Dale
