I found a family bio of George Howard with a son William W. Howard, about the correct age, from Murray County, Georgia. http://www.murraycountymuseum.com/mf050.html

It states that some of then ended up in Texas which is where the William W. Howard I am researching lived. Interestingly one of his sons was named Murray which is why I believe this is a good connection.
