Lisa, were you able to locate the obit you wanted? I am sorry I do not have one. I do however have a question. I do not know much about George or James, but have followed their father and his family. I wonder how James' mothers name (Mary Elizabeth Painter)was discovered.

Mary Elizabeth Benge Ryan married Edmon T Spillman, in 1908 in McLennan Co., TX. They are listed on the 1910 census for that county as well. Spillman is listed as Tom S. which is why it took me so long to find his family. They had bothe been married twice. I've known about Tom Spillman for many years and think I have a photograph of him. Do you think that the name Mary Elizabeth might have come from the Benge Ryan Spillman instead of Painter?

I also notice two individuals in the household by the name of Sullin. I suspect it was an error (by enumerator)that they were not given their own household and family numbers as it appears that the woman was listed as head of household and the next page of census has another Sullin. My point being; I do not believe the Sullin's were related in anyway to the Spillman's. Perhaps you know of some relationship to Tom Spillman?

Mary E and Tom were not married long. She was quite a bit older than he was. I believe they divorced, but have never looked for papers in Waco, TX. where I believe they would be found. Mary E. Benge Ryan Spillman lived in Moody, TX in McLennan county from the early 1870's until her death in 1918. She was previously married to Henry Ryan from 1872 until 1900 or later.

I traced Tom Spillman's family to Kentucky from McLennan Co. after I discovered his first name was Edmon. If you can help me with any information regarding Mary E. I'd appreciate it and I'll be happy to help you if I can.

You would think with the internet you could find something about Briscoe Co.I know where it is, distribution of income, and the economics of today. What I would like to know is the general history of Briscoe. I have kinfolks from there and I know there is an official history. Well, I live in Alabama most of the history of Texas in Alabama is who left here to go there and what Texas team the University of Alabama is gonna play. I am not a rabid U of Alabama fan.Texas has more than a fair share of sports teams to be proud of--more than Alabama. Could someone please point me in a direction to find out about Briscoe County, TX so I don't have to buy some expensive heritage books.

Gladys L Spillman not listed in Texas death records. She was born about 1907 TX would have been about 28 years old when James B died and may have remarried. According to the 1930 census her parents born in KY and she was 17 when they married no known children by 1930 and none born before he died.

They are listed one property from Louis/Lewis Virgil Painter born KY circa 1877 and wife Jennie born KY circa 1880? she was 15 when she married; Mildred Painter age 15, Willard J L age 13, Edward age 8, Willa V age 3 1/12 all born in Texas. L Virgil Painter died 1932 Birscoe Co. Jennie "Pedige" Painter died 07 Mar 1939 Turkey TX buried in Quitaque Texas. V L and Jennie Painter/Pointer had a daughter named Gladys born TX about 1908. They are in Briscoe county in 1920.

I am searching for ancestors, and have just recently had a big set-back. I made a wrong connection and now am starting on this branch again. Emma Choate (Emly) was born to James and Martha (Brisco) Choate in 1870, Texas. Census records say her mother was born in Arkansas. Searching census records, I can find only one Martha Brisco b. abt 1846 and that in Madison, Sevier Co. If this is the right Martha, her parents are William (b. 1824) and Sally (b. 1827) from the 1850 Census.

Does anyone out there know anything about this Martha, and whom she married. Also, there is a James W Brisco listed next door to William in the 1850 Census. Is this William's father. If so, does anyone know who William's wife is and who is James W.'s wife.

Looking for bones can be fun until the one you're standing on no longer supports your weight.

I know your post is old but I have information on the studio. Alma Elliff (my Dad's Aunt) married George Warren Orr in Tulia, TX and they had 4 kids. If you want more information please contact me. I have a picture of my grandfather: Hobert Donald Elliff (Alma's brother) with the same stamp on the back and dated 1929.

My wife's grandfather's name is Billy Joe Davis, better known as Joe. He was in the well pump services up until he passed way. His wife's name is Edwina "Tina" Davis. No I do not know my grandfathers first name, I do know that my grandmother was a Gammill. My grandfather passed away before I was born or when I was one, or Two. My mother was a Hawkins. J.W. Folley, 84, of rural east Cleveland County, died Tuesday, April 4. A memorial service will be held at Norman Body Works, 315 E Gray St., at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 8.

Born at Hinsdale, Mont., Feb. 4, 1922, Mr. Folley graduated Silverton High School, Silverton, Texas. He served in the 10th Air Corps, 12th Bomb Group, Feni, India 1942 to 1946 during WWII. Mr. Folley worked on ranches in Texas and Nevada during his school years, and for Conoco Oil Company until moving to Oklahoma. In 1972, he founded Norman Body Works. He spent part of each summer in the Conejos River country of Colorado until emphysema curtailed his access to the high altitudes. He loved horses, motorcycles, guns, cameras, cowboy music, reading and traveling in his motor homes. Family said he was always willing to help family members and friends when the need arose and he planted hundreds of trees in the Norman area.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Frankie Folley of Silverton.

Survivors include his wife Patricia of the home; son Johnny of Noble; sister Erma Ridge of Houston; special niece Renise Leresche of Sterling Va.; and stepfamily Twyla Wilson, Mona Taylor and Jim Wilson, all of Norman.

The family would like to thank Heartland Hospice, especially Ashley, Becky, Jennifer and Harry Smith, for their assistance and support.

I am researching Henry Harrison Briscoe born Clonmore, Kilkenny, Ireland in 1837. His parents were Henry Harrison Briscoe and Elizabeth Thomasina Walshe and sibblings were Thomas Anthony, Edward William, Caroline Elizabeth Henrietta and Alfred Philip.

Henry served with the 81st Foot (Loyal Lincoln Volunteers) and was awarded the Indian Mutiny Medal in 1959.

He emigrated to Australia about 1861.

Any information about HH would be appreciated.

I recently learned my g-g-grandfather, Obadiah Wesley Carter, lived in Silverton in the late 1890's. He was a Cumberland Presbyterian minister from Missouri, and had lived in Texas since about 1860. O. W. was married to Margaret Lucinda Mehaffey, and they had one daughter, Maud Rosalia, who was married in Silverton Dec. 27, 1899 to Franklin D. Galloway. The 1900 census found them all living in neighboring Swisher Co., and farming. I'd like to know more about O. W. and his family and their time in Briscoe Co.

Wm H Rucker & Martha M were living in Quitaque on the 1930 census w/ her brother George Townley. The Ruckers are buried there,but I can't find what happened to Uncle George. They apparently moved from Denton Co out there. Can anyone shed some light on this family. I just found them.

Throop farm near Quitaque

My grandmother Josephine Montgomery Hamm Throop remarried to Robert J. Throop/Throup (pronounced "Troop") in Illinois in 1913. Sometime after 1920 they moved to Texas, where Mr. Throop died in 1938, I am told in Quitaque. I visited my grandmother at the Throop farm twice in the 1950's, which was the last time I saw her. I clearly remember this place, and Quitaque, but I don't know exactly where the farm was. When I go through Quitaque on a road trip, I'd like to drive by. There's probably nothing left of the modest structures, but it was a pleasant memory to revisit if possible.

Anyone know of these Throops? What is a good way to query the location of the Throop farm? I'm told that, from the description, it's probably below the Caprock, and it's possible that it was located in Floyd or Motley County - Quitaque was just the nearest town. Mr. Throop was born in 1871. He had a son Charlie (ca.1901) by his first wife, and children Oren L. (1919), Lella May, Roland C., and Ester Adelia (1921) by my grandmother. I know about his children only from research; no one, including my grandmother, ever told me anything about them. And I know no family source left that would know anything about when she left the farm, or when she died, or what the disposition of the land was. She did say the land was an inheritance (Montgomery, but it may have been Throop land).

Frank Van Meter was my grandfather my dad was A F Van Meter Jr. I know or have been told he came to Briscoe Co. and went to work for my great grandfather John Honea. He then married my grandmother Ela Honea. We have been told he was born in Illinois or Ark. I have searched high and low and can find nothing. If anyone knows anything I would really appreciate it.

Thank you for checking. I know Grover (aka Gink/Jink) Patton and Marietta Malone were married in Silverton, Briscoe Co., so I just assumed the children (Geraldine and James) were born then. Also thanks for the Patton and Wynn information.

I'm still trying to find an obit or funeral home information on him. No luck so far thou.
