George H. Arnold and Ola L. Whitlow

George H. Arnold and Ola Leonard Whitlow got married in Brown county, Texas on 8 Sep 1912. When I looked them up on the 1920 census--I found Ola "widowed". She only had one son living in the home--a young boy named Paul Arnold. I found a death record that shows Ola Leonard Arnold died on 15 June 1957, in Brownwood, Brown, Texas. Her d.c. says she was buried in the Bangs Cemetary, in Bangs, Texas. I also found a d.c. posted for a Paul Henry Arnold. He died 12 March 1988, in Brown county, Texas. What I'm trying to do is find more information on the husband--George H. Arnold. I would've died between 1912 and 1920, in Texas. I found "George H. Arnold" that died 15 Jan 1919, in Milam county, Texas (cert# 4000). Is it possible for me to find out if this man is buried in the Bangs Cemetary, in Bangs, Texas? The son is probably there, too. Now I tried to log onto the Brown county website at Rootsweb...But it doesn't appear to work right now.

Please look up Dozie or Eudoris in the 1937 Brownwood City directory. She was the informant on Thulie MCDONALD death certificate, who died in 1937. I think Dozie is a nickname for Eudoris. Any help appreciated.

I have been researching a MCDONALD family in Brownwood consisting of the widowed mother (Elizabeth) and all (but one) of her daughters, Mary, Thula (aka Thulie or Dathula), Maria Calahan and Martha Steele, none of whom had any kids. Two of the daughters had married at some point but both were widowed. When the last of the sisters died (Thulie MCDONALD, d. 1937), the informant on the death certificate was DOZIE MCDONALD. If anyone could look this person up in the Brownwood directories or any other Brownwood source I would deeply appreciate it. I have no idea how she is related to this family.

Also, the address on Thulie MCDONALDs death certificate was 1102 Belle Plain Ave. in Brownwood. Was this a residence?

Marriage Record for America Emmaline MILLS

America Emmaline Mills,, B jUNE 14,1857, In Ala, BUT POSSIBLY Texas, according to some family stories, she was daughter of William Mills & Wilmirth Morton of Brownwood Texas was married on December 27, 1874 in Brown County Texas. Family stories indicated that they may have been married at a Military Fort in Brown County. Is Ft Griffin nearby? I had someone in Brown County tell me that there was no record that they can find and sent me to another county. I dont understand why they would tell me that. I know for fact that this is where they were married, and possibly if there was a fire that destroyed some records, is there or could there be any other document that shows that this couple was in Brown County Texas for any given time? I am unable to pull up anyhting about her parents, someone told me that they found Wilmirth Morton in Brown County Texas gen web, I went there and found nothing. Nathaniel was in the military, entered the Confederate War in 1861, Co E 34TH REG, CAPT FIELDER & COL MITCHELL commanding. He also attended the 1900 Arkansas Confederate Reunion, in which that year ,a census was taken of all confederate veterans and they had to fill out papers about the military service and info about their families for historical purposes. I was fortunate and discovered this document, and it states that he married America Mills in Brown County Texas & her parents were William Mills & Wilmirth Morton, any help to shed any light on these folks will be appreciated America died Aug 30 1913 in De Queen Arkansas and Nathaniel died Aug 24,1926 De Queen Arkansas.

No "Brownwood Cemetery" is listed in cemetery lists; which cemetery is this apt to be? Is the current Funeral Home with some of the above names the same on as in 1943? In what newspaper am I apt to find an obituary for April 16, 1943? I see a Bulletin mentioned in other postings. Where would the older newspapers be held? Thanks, Grace in AK gratron@yahoo.com

I've been told that my ggrandmother Almira Elizabeth Decker Gilley is buried in Indian Creek Cemetery near Brownwood, Brown County, TX. According to the Census records, I believe she went by her middle name, Elizabeth. Is there anyone who could look to see if she is buried there? Or is anyone aware of a website that has a list of people buried there? I am also hoping to find her husband, James Andrew Gilley buried near her, but I don't know for sure. I'd appreciate any information that you may have. Thanks.

One of my ancestors, Samuel Clark Boyd, is said to have been an attorney in Brownwood, Texas. He was born 17 Mar 1831 in Marion Co., GA and died 18 Dec 1908 in Brownwood, I believe. From information I have gathered from the web, he was living in new Mexico at the date of his death but was back in Brownwood visiting relatives when he actually died. Any information, bio, obituary, etc would be greatly appreciated.
If newspaper archives exist, it would appear likely that some mention of Samuel Clark Boyd's death in the 18-20 December 1908 edition of the newspaper would exist due to his previous status as an attorney in Brownwood.
I have looked for a death certificate in the Texas State Archives and have been unable to locate one.
Does Brown County have death certificates older than the 1903 date for the state?
Are their any books concerning court officials, attorneys, etc. for Brown County which might provide a bio of Samuel Clark Boyd?
Just trying to get a lead concerning the correctness of information I have gleened from the web.
Thanks for any help.

I am looking for information on my grandmother who was raised by the Hunt family. I was told that the man who ran the icehouse in 1972 was a member of this family. If you know who this man was or any member of his family, would you please have them contact me by email. I have hit a brick wall in my search because she was adopted.

Would like to confirm birth and death dates of Rachel Deaver (Herrod) Baxter. She is buried in the Greenleaf Cemetery, Brownwood. My record shows that Rachel Deaver was married to F. M. Herod 2/7/1861. He died and she married John Alvin Baxter 2/21/1865 in Grayson Co, Texas. Believe that the obituary showed that when she died she was 81 years old. Her birth day was Dec 23. Would like to confirm if it was 1845.

Thanks

Aline
Looking for any information on Leila C. Simmons, born in Dec 1881. Daughter of Leonora Frances Simmons and adopted daughter of Thomas Jefferson Simmons II. TJS was the son of Thomas Jefferson Simmons I and Sophenia Josephine Holder.

Leonora Frances died in 1907 in Childress. Best guess is Leila got married before her parents moved to Childress, in Brownwood. 1900 Census has the family living in Brownwood.

Andrew and Martha Davis 1860-1880 Brown Co TX, son John P Davis??

Andrew Davis brn ard 1833 AL, the s/o Thomas and Sarah Davis, both brn in SC. Martha brn ard 1842 GA, possible d/o William Franklin Brown and Margaret Eason, who died shortly after a child was brn. Andrew and Martha Davis are found in 1860 living next door to William Franklin Brown and then again in 1870 and 1880. In the 1880 census Wm Brown, cousin is listed in the Davis household. Andrew and Martha Davis are not found in Brown Co TX in the 1900 census, perhaps they had died btwn 1880 - 1900??

Children brn to Andrew and Martha Davis are William T Davis brn ard 1858 TX, John P Davis brn ard 1859 TX, Margaret J Davis brn ard 1861 TX, Abraham Davis brn ard 1866 TX and Robert Davis brn ard 1873 TX. I found two entries for a John Davis, see below. I cannot say for sure which one is correct, if either? If Martha Davis is the daughter of William Franklin Brown she would be a 1C4R. Any clues would be helpful in finding the descendants of Andrew and Martha Davis of Brown Co TX.
**********
US FEDERAL CENSUS, PARKER CO TX????
1900 June 13 census for Parker Co TX head John P Davis age 41 brn July 1858 in TX, mrd 10yrs, occ/farmer, father brn in MS & mother in GA.
Chandler descendant

My grandfather, Welcome Neil Davis, was born in 1899. I am having difficulty determining who his mother and father were due to a lack of info from that side of the family. I was always told that my father had a Great Aunt Melissa and she was the first white child born in Brown County. With that said, that was Welcome W. Chandler's daughter, so I am speculating that one of the daughters of W.W Chandler was my grandfather's mother. Would anyone have some additional information that might support or disprove this theory? Thank you very much.

My husband is hoping to trace his roots and I am trying to help with some research. I am looking for more information on the John A.
My grandmother was Margaret Wheeler Davidson and she was William G.'s brother. I have a picture of William and Laura. I would really like it if you would send me each his children's names with birthdate, where born, if deceased when and where buried.

I don't have much on the Wheeler's. I have pictures of all the children of James and Roxie and have a list of all of James A. 's brothers and sisters, mother and father, grandmother and grandfather. I am corresponding with a man who thinks that his g-grandfather was a brother to James A. Wheeler but we haven't got it all worked out yet. I do have some information on Lucy Wheeler Hood as she lived here in Coke Co. and I've known all her children.

Let me know what you need and we'll go from there. Send me your e-mail.

POW/MIA Korean War. Brown Co. NEWMAN

I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave Brown County , Texas as his home of record.

Soldier: JAMES ALTON NEWMAN
Born: May 14, 1930. Caucasian
Date of loss: October 12, 1951.KIA

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. There are 137 families in Texas that have not been located. There is one family from Brown County that has not been located.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (77 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

Harold Davis
40th Infantry Division
Korea ’52-‘53
910-791-2333
hgdavis@bellsouth.net
I find my g-grandmother, Sarah E. SMITH on the 1870 Brown Co. census but the post office is shown as San Saba. Precinct 2, Llano, Texas; Roll: T9_1317; Family History Film: 1255317; Page: 528.3000; Enumeration District: 99

I have known they were on the Brown Co. census for a few years but never really looked at the post office until now. My TX map doesn't show a San Saba in Brown Co., so this is a little curious. Has anyone else experienced this or have an explanation? Thanks in advance.

Iam looking for William L. Pearson. He died in Brown County and may be buried in Hogg Creek Cemetery. His wife Winnie remarried to someone named Vann. Winnie and her son Thomas Halford Pearson are also buried in Brown County they both died in 1900 shortly after the census was taken. I appreciate any help I can get. The other cemetery may have been Pleasant Valley. The Vann's, Johnson's and Duncan's are buried in one of the cemeteries.

Does anyone know of CAMPBELL's that lived in Brownwood?
