I am interested in corresponding with those interested in Gabriel JACKSON (b. 15 Dec 1795 in Ohio County, KY and d. 27 Sept 1877 in Burleson County, TX)and married (2) Virgnia Ann CRADDOCK (b. Prince Edward County, VA ca 1815 and d.25 Aug 1882 in Burleson County, TX subsequent to marrying (2)William BATES on 23 June 1880). Gabriel & Virginia Ann JACKSON had six known children, all born in Burleson County. They were: (I) Cortus JACKSON who m. Matilda Angeline PORTER 27 Aug 1855 and died 1858, (II) Vitula V. JACKSON variously referred to as "Bytula" who m. James D. NELMS 1 Jul 1855, (III) Corilla E. JACKSON who m. (1) Sam PARKER, Jr. 30 Sept 1856, (2) Sam GOODMAN, & (3) AB DUCKWORTH; (IV) Civilla C. JACKSON who m. Britain B. RYAN (b. Alabama) 9 Feb 1858, d. 9 jun 1865; (V) Christopher Columbus JACKSON known as "Kit" m. a "Miss SHUGART" and d. Dec 1869; (VI) John Attress JACKSON known as "At" who d. without issue 23 Jan 1863 at Vicksburg and is buried in Potter's Field there. These children are listed in the order of their birth and all but John Attress had offspring. All marriage dates listed were those marriages occurring in Burleson County. The wills of Gabriel JACKSON & of Virginia Ann JACKSON BATES are probated in Burleson County.
I am searching for the burial place of Virginia CRADDOCK JACKSON BATES. If she is buried in the Old City Cemetery in Caldwell, TX there is no marker.
I am searching for any information regarding the wife of Christopher Columbus JACKSON who was a SHUGART. There were two girls born to this union: (I)Attress JACKSON b.
Dec 1865 (known as Attie or Addie)who m. (1) Sam Houston CRADDOCK 24 Aug 1879, Burleson County; he was the son of John Robert CRADDOCK (brother of Virgina Ann CRADDOCK JACKSON BATES) & Amanda CHILDERS. Attress m. (2) Sam GAINES, & (3)Henard LEWIS; (II)Tunnie C. JACKSON b. 8 Feb 1868 who m. Walter Scott JONES (b. 12 Jul 1857 in Caroline County, VA) 25 Mar 1880 in Burleson County & d. 7 Jan 1913 in Burleson Co. Based on census records & the will of Gabriel JACKSON it would appear that Attress & Tunnie JACKSON were raised by their paternal grandparents, Gabriel & Virginia JACKSON after their father Christopher Columbus "Kit" JACKSON'S death in 1869. They are enumerated in their household in the 1870 census for Burleson County. There are several accounts of Kit JACKSON's death, the common theme being that he was murdered either at or coming home from a saloon. I am also searching for his burial place. It has been said he is buried at the Old City Cemetery in Caldwell, but there is no marker. As a descendant of Kit and his daughter Tunnie C. JACKSON JONES I am particularly interested in linking up with anyone researching Attress JACKSON, Tunnie's sister. Will be happy to share any info I have.
Also of interest to me are the following surnames of Burleson County: BOWERS, COLLINS, POLLOCK, & JONES. Have done a fair amount of research on the BOWERS of VA, NC, & TN. I have alot of information on Gabriel JACKSON's parents who were Christopher JACKSON & Catherine RHOADS, from Virginia & Pennsylvania, respectively, and migrated to Pike County, Missouri subsequent to raising 12 children in Ohio County, Kentucky. Also searching for any information on the parents of Virginia Ann CRADDOCK, John Cross CRADDOCK & Peggy R. JACKSON who probably migrated from Virgina to Ohio County, Kentucky.
Of most interest to me is when and where Gabriel JACKSON & Virgina Ann CRADDOCK were married. Have searched & searched without success.
