The Cherokee County Genealogical Society will meet at 5:00 PM Monday, December 9, 2013, at the First Methodist Church, 1031 SE Loop 456, in Jacksonville, Texas. The speaker will be Mrs. C. H. (May Lou) Meyers of Jacksonville. The topic will be based on the History of the Methodist Church in East Texas and in particular the history of the First Methodist Church in Jacksonville. Mrs. Meyers is the volunteer archivist for the First Methodist Church in Jacksonville. As a part of her program, Mrs. Meyers will be conducting a guided tour of the church archives room.
Important business decisions concerning the future direction of the society and possible future genealogy events are expected to be made at this meeting officers said.
CCGS dues for 2013-1014 can still be paid by mail or at this society meeting. The current society membership year runs September 2013 through May 2014. Annual membership dues are $15.00(single) and $20.00 for a two-member household. Members will receive four quarterly issues of the CCGS publication TREE TALK. A single issue of TREE TALK is $4.00.
A hot soup supper will be served by refreshment committee members following the business meeting and program presentation. Anyone who is interested in researching their family history and genealogy is invited to attend members said. Free genealogy and historical research help is available after the business meeting and program for those attending.
