Funeral for Richard Max Owens, 53, of Rusk, was at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 1, in Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Don Copeland officiating.
Burial was in Salem Cemetery.
Mr. Owens died Feb. 28 at his home after a sudden illness. He had been a resident of Rusk 30 years, had been a nurse technician at Rusk State Hospital 33 years, was a member of the Salem Missionary Baptist Church, served on the board of directors and was president of Southern Cherokee County Credit Union.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Pauline Owens; one son and daughter-in-law, David and Brenda Owens of Tyler; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. I. R. Owens of Rusk; two sisters, Jo Ann Parks and Joy Ellen Gilbert, both of Lewisville; and grandchildren, Michael and Brandi and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers included Earl Ross, Charles Peters, Spooks Norman, G.M. Berry, Billy Darby and Harold Littlejohn.
Honorary pallbearers were Bill Middleton, Jr., Ike Daniel, Bill Nichols and Wiley Shattuck.
