I have just begun to work on the Brown family.
James M. Brown was born May 3, 1828 in Alabama? and died Sept. 24, 1908 buried in Muggs Cemetary, Weston, Collin County, TX. He married Mary E. Patterson October 13, 1848 she died June 11, 1870. James M. married second wife Julia A. Fowler (b July 25, 1837 in Alabama, d April 1921, buried in Muggs Cemetary.) They married on February 27, 1871. I show 8 children listed with James M. and Mary Patterson, unfortunately most are only initials, but I do have birth and death dates. I have hand written notes and are unconfirmed.
I note four children listed with James M. and Julia Fowler including Alvin Brown b. Jan. 13, 1872 d May 12, 1937 (my wife’s great grandfather.). I have too much to key on this message. Contact me and I’ll provide what and when I can.
I’ve not looked up this information personally to confirm, but extracted the following from a letter, ref. “’The Peters Colony of Texas’ by Seymour V. Connor p 202-203 ==James M. Brown migrated to the (Peters)Colony as a family man prior to July 1,1845, and settled on a company survey in Present Grayson County. He issued Fannin Third Class Certificate No. 1260 for 573 acres, when he patented in Grayson County. He is listed on the 1850 census (Grayson County Family no. 2131) as a 48-year-old farmer born in Virginia. He had two children and apparently migrated to Texas from Kentucky.” This contradicts other information showing he was from Alabama.
