Julia,

Try looking in Montague Co., TX. There was a wagon train that was attacked and massacred by Comanches between between Henrietta and Bowie, TX. There is a historical marker on the side of US 287 commemorating the massacre.
For years the only evidence of the massacre was a white cross on a hill on private property on the north side of the highway. My wife and I used to wonder if that was what happened before the state erected the historical marker.
