Hi! My name is Debbie Gilliam, Merrick Bartlett is my great great grandfather not sure we have the same one r not been trying to find out more information about him. I know he was married to a Francis Mitchell in 1867 and they had 4 four children. This store was operated by William Edward Scribner(Dugan was a nickname) and James L. Davis. James L Davis was my grandfather. I don't know how long the partnership lasted. I do know that Mr. Davis was operating the store when the Tornado hit Melissa in the 1920's.

The Newspaper Index done by the McKinney Library lists obits/mentions:

The Democrat is probably a repeat of the Courier notice but, who knows?

The McKinney library Genealogy Department would probably send you copies. I usually include a SASE and a couple of dollars.

Ruth I. Sprinkle daughter of L. Walla Sprinkle and Ida James "J Ida" Willcoxson.

I believe they had at least eight children. I do not have a lot on the children, so they might not all have lived.

Wade Barrett C. Morrow son of John F. Morrow and Esther Morrow. Wade was married twice once to Ida James "J Ida" Willcoxson, they had two children James Daniel and Willard Franes Morrow. He was married to Alvora Williams and they had at least six children.

Hubert Anderson Morrow was a son of Wade and Alvora Williams. Hubert Anderson was married to Mayme "Mammie" Sprinkle, a sister to Ruth Sprinkle Morrow.

I live on CR 580 East of TX-78 on Desert Creek, near Blue Ridge. Billy John Dickson uses the land, across CR 580 from me that he says was the Moreland townsite. All that is left is a windmill, the foundation for a cotton gin, some well curbing from the hand dug wells, and house foundations.

The land is owned by Wade Campbell a lawyer in Richardson Tx, whose family Campbell Road is named after.

The Moreland site is being used for pasture, and is inside a locked gate. I think Mr Cambell would let you visit the property. He is usually on the land around 8:00 on Saturdays, training his sheep dog.

As I said there is not much left. The Seaway Pipeline is planned to go through there this year and will destroy some of what there is.

Billy John Dickson is 78 years old. He says the town was gone, as far back as he can remember. He says that the old road ran North of CR 580 and can be traced by the tree line. He said his grandfather used to talk about people coming from all around with teams and wagons to haul water from Moreland.

I plan to do a GPS survey, take some pictures, and write up a short history of Moreland in 2013 for the Collin County Historical Society. Family stories are welcome! When completed, the writeup will be in their archives at the old post office building on Virginia street in McKinney TX.

Thank you. Yes, I saw those census items, and not really anything else, unfortunately. I am hoping to hear from a descendant because I have a copy of Arkansas records that mention a boy named Woodford, living with the Little family in Arkansas. I believe that child became Woodford Little, who later was in Collin County, Texas.

There is an 1860 census in Russell, Camden, Missouri with Emanuel F. Willcocks, Mary E., and children George W., Jane, Susan and Sarah C. I believe these are your Wilcox family. I am looking for definitive proof that Elizabeth J. Wilcox (I believe this is Jane listed here) who married William J. Southern is the daughter of Emanuel Wilcox (1818-1868)and Mary Ellenor Johnston. Would appreciate any help you can give me.

I checked with the McKinney Library. The obituary index shows Alfred Middleton, McKinney Democrat, Issue Jan 7 1897, p4. Our Society has also had some of the newspapers digitized. I found the page at http://texashistory.unt.edu/ark:/67531/metapth191944/m1/4/zo... middleton". It says he is buried at Bethany Cemetery but I don't see his headstone in the Cemetery listing.

Looking for any info on Alfred W. Middleton (b abt 1832 d abt 1897) Supposedly he was born in Tennesse, but lived in Marion, Illinois and died in Collin County, Texas. He was married to Mary Melissa Beasley who supposedly died in Oxford Kansas. I'm particularly interested in where they are buried. Also documentation for the above info would be helpful also. Seems to be a lot of "copying" going on. No bit of info is too small to consider. Thanks in advance.

Someone please let us know something. i went to shcool with her and she was the sweetest person there. I would like to know if her killer was caught, and if so who is he. She deserves to have this person caught. Her life was cut short because of this and it is not fair. Please Please give us some closure. I think about this murder all of the time, and we do not hear anything about it, or don't even know if the killer was caught.

Collin clerks office shows Marshall James Carter died 11/8/1949. McKinney Library index show his obituary (actually this could only mention that he died) McKinney Democrat 10 Nov 1949 page 5.
Flora Hand Carter is mentioned by the Courier 2 July 47 p 6 and the Democrat 3 July 47 p8 Her death certificate lists her as Flora Afton Hand.

Benjamin R Carter Mar 28 1906 - Nov 5 1972 is buried at Ridgeview Cemetery.

The last 3 numbers are space, lot and block, so you can see
WB and Nancy are buried next to each other, and Charles and Nola are buried next to each other, for example. M J and Flora are buried next to each other.

Collin County Cemetery Inscriptions, by Pitts etal, lists a little more info from headstones, for instance Flora's birthdate was Jan 14 1873.

Most if not all of the Morrows of the clan that came to Collin County, Texas and the ones that lived in Farmersville area are descendents of Thomas Morrow II b. 1770 SC d. bef 1840 Maury County, TN and Elizabeth Keith Morrow, b. 1781 d. bef 1846, possibly Maury County, TN.
Thomas Morrow II was a son of Thomas Morrow I and Elizabeth. Which were part of the 5 Morrow Men.

There are a few Collin County, Morrow's still alive. I am not sure other than Cindy Bray who has done extensive reserch on the line that you could possibly talk with. Most are not doing research or very elderly.

The Morrow/Willcoxson family lines came to Collin County, Texas from Maury County, TN. The Farmersville lines are descendants of these two lines.

My husband is a Willcoxson and I do the research.

I am the gggrandson of Samuel Morrow Sr. born in 1808. Working on building or tree on Ancestry. His son Richard born in 1861 is my ggrandfather, his son Marshall E. Morrow born in 1885 was my grandfather, his son Howard Preston Morrow born in 1907 was my father.

I found a TX state file for John Jordan who died in 1922 in Collin. Evidently lots of people registered the deaths in one place but not the other. There was little cross filing before then.

I dont find a Collin county death certificate for either. I found a John Jordan and Rebisey, both 63 in the 1920 census, along with their son Marshall, 36. I found a Marshal Jordan who died in 1952. He is buried at Stoney Point Cemetery. 1882-1952. http://texashistory.unt.edu/ark:/67531/metapth185155/m1/31/?... point"
Other Jordans buried there do not include John or R?. They may not have had a standing headstone at the time the survey was made. In 1930 & 1940 Marshall is living with a sister Alice Dickey in McKinney. Her husband, Newton Dickey died in 1932.

I want to thank MT for posting this entry for my Great Great Great Grandmother! Her maiden name was Webb. She had three children, John Clayton Stiff, William Webb Stiff and Mary Stiff. I believe she followed her son William to Texas from Kentucky. My Great Great Grandfather John Clayton Stiff left Kentucky and settled in Johnson and Cedar Counties in Iowa. He is buried in the Rochester Cemetery in Cedar County.
Does anyone have access to the actual newspaper for a scanned copy of Mrs. Rachael A. Stiff's entry or a digital photo?

According to a Bible Record Charles L. Anderson and Sarah Elmira Looney married 13 Dec 1876. Does anyone have access to early marriage records in Collin County, TX?

This is my Great Grandparents and I would like to know where this marriage took place. I know that they had family in Collin County, TX, Young County, TX and the Looney family was in Polk County, Missouri and Johnson County, Missouri before they cam to Texas sometime between 1870 - 1880 where they are found in Young County, Texas on the 1880 Young County, TX US Census Records.

I am starting to research this line. Any luck since your last posting? I have gotten to this point but I am not positive on Lydia's last name. Some of the records I look at say Anderson and some say Henley. It is leaning toward Anderson but I am unable to confirm anything at this point. I have done some research on the line. The line I am looking through is through their youngest daughter Lucy. She married Anger Clinton. I would love to help in any way I can.
