His first wife was Ida (Bonnet) Cain of Texas.

They were married February 18, 1920 in Nacogdoches County, Texas.

Joseph Henry Cain and his first wife resided in Youngstown, Mahoning County, Ohio for many years before returning to Texas.

No children are shown with them on the 1930 and 1940 U. S. Census.

After the death of his first wife, Joseph Henry Cain married a second time, however he and his second wife were divorced a short time later.

He died of a self inflicted gunshot wound.
