William Finis Elliott

I am trying to locate the 1869 Bible of William Finis Elliott. Four children were born to Elliott and his wife, Margaret Ann Ford Elliott, in Amity, Comanche County, between 1882 and 1889. I believe the Bible contains marriage information about Ellen Thomas and Wesley Swift Ford on May 3, 1860 in Arlington, Tarrant County. The ten children of William Finis Elliott and Margaret Ann Ford Elliott were Fletcher Elliott, 1879-1937; Ellen Marie Elliott Placke, 1882- ?; Caskey Elliott, 1884-1909; Wilford Hall Elliott, 1887-1889; Margaret Eunice Elliott Beck, 1889-1959; Willie Katherine Elliott Martin, 1892-1971; Minor Lipscomb Elliott, 1895- ?; Lois Ruby Elliott Gregory, 1898-1972; Charlie Connor Elliott, 1900-1960; Ford Snyder Elliott, 1904-1963. I would appreciate very much any information that might lead me to the Elliott Bible.

Cadmus Wilborn was a Confederate Veteran who was one of five men to win the Texas Gold Star for bravery. The last know information on him has him applying for a Confederate Pension in Comanche County.

If anyone would know where he is buried that information would be most well as he is being considered for inclusion in the second volume of _Texas Burial Sites of Civil War Notables_.

(Charles or Charlie William)HARRELL. Mary died March 17, 1890 in Sipe Springs. As far as I know, she is not buried in the Sipe Springs Cemetery. From her estate papers, it shows $34 went to burial. Mary's mother was Martha Sherman. Martha was killed by Indians in Palo Pinto. After her mom's death she was raised by Uncle Jeremiah Sherman. C.W. died later abt. 1913 in Sipe Springs area also. I would like to find out where are C.W. and Mary E. HARRELL buried.
Finally, I have found enough clues to piece together a lot of my Wilson Grandparents history. G'Pa, Aaron Jackson Wilson, died 1901 near Van Dyke and is buried there at Zion Hill Cemetery.

Am fairly certain that he was working or staying at either the Scott farm or at the Harris farm. My best info is that both of the farms sold to the same buyer in maybe 1970's.
I find a Henry Scott b.1872 and Hogan Scott (whom I remember) I believe were of that farm. My best info is that these two farms probably were connected.

The Harris farm was of James Harris b.1854 and Margaret Harris (my Aunt Mag)b. 1864.

To close another piece of the puzzle, I need the locations of these farms. One story is that they were about one mile south of Van Dyke and one story has them within a mile northwest of Zion Hill Cemetery.

Will appreciate this and any other bits of help anyone may have.... thnx........dw

Looking for Relatives

I am looking for any information that I can get on relatives that once lived or still live in the town of Commanche. On in the county of commanche or anywhere. The information I can give to start is my Daddy. (both of my parents are deceased) My daddys name was Walter Jack Thomas. Born on May 28,1919 Commanche TX. Died November 09, 1991 Okmulgee Ok. His father was Walter Monroe Thomas. His mother was Eura May (Moody) Thomas. He had a sister named Venera Lee Thomas (deceased) and a brother named Harold Rex Thomas (currently living in Buda TX. My daddy and his sister was raised with an Aunt named Bessie Moody (deceased).His brother was raised with another Uncle and Aunt named Floyd and Ola Moody (both deceased). I would like to find out as much information as I can on both sides of the family. I know my daddy once told me that their was a lot of dislike between my daddy's dad (my grandfather) and my daddy's mother's (my grandmother) father (my great grandfather). I also know that my Daddy's mother died fairly young, and that my great grandfather would not let my grandfather raise the children, which is why my dad's Aunts raised him and his sister and brother. I would love to find out the names and dates of births and deaths of any relatives. I would really like to find living relatives that could maybe help me fill in the blanks. Thank you Jackie

I would appreciate any help on the children of the above couple. I am confused as to how many children were born. I have seen Dora (married Silas Hamilton), Lula (married Price McMahon, and Rufus (married Trecia Carver). Then I have seen maybe a 4th child named Agnes Eudora. Is this the same child as Dora? I haven't been able to locate where and when Dora died. I am very curious about an Miss A. Daniel who married J.J. Newe in 1911. Duncan Neel, son of William and Mary Ann Neel might have died in California. He was living with Agnes E. New as a boarder and she was the informant on his death certificate. Any help on any of these families would be greatly appreciated.

Graham families of Comanche Co

I am a lookup volunteer from another county, not related to this surname. This is a long shot, I am hoping another volunteer from Comanche Co will see this and be able to assist me.

I am looking for death certificate, cemetery record, etc., anything that will help me locate the following people from Comanche Co. The surname GRAHAM has numerous names tied to this county so I'm hoping someone will recognize these names:

Rufus King Graham - d.approx.1922
Dempsey Elijah Graham - d.approx.1915 (from names on other documents may also be listed as D.E.Graham, or Demps Graham, can also seen as Richard Dempsey Graham on his son William Reed Graham's death certificate).

I have already searched the Texas Death Certificate records and do not find anyone that fits the profile of these men, I am hoping someone from Comanche Co can perhaps search the local county records for their deaths. Any clues appreciated.

marriage death & records for abt 1870 -1920s Brandon Robinson Delaney

I am looking for marriage or death records in Comanche and surrounding areas to try and help me find info on two families and their kin.

I am looking for anything on L. B. Brandon, who was born abt 1845 in MO, lived in Ark, and was in the 1900 US Census for Comanche County, TX. I am trying to find out his relation to my Brandon family, and if it is possible he may be L. Benton Brandon, or if the L. stands for Lewis, Lafayette, or Luther. His wife was named Mary and his children include John b1871(wife Jane) and Charles L Brandon b May 1892.

I am also looking for information on Mary Robinson, who was born 1850 in Jasper County GA, lived in 1860 and 1870 Louisiana, and who disappears from me in records after that. I am hoping to find her marriage, or perhaps even death records.

The family story is that Mary F (or possibly C) Robinson came to TX with her brother and sister when they ran away from stepfather Allen P. Morris and his two kids James Oliver Morris and Sarah Frances (Fannie) Morris. Sarah Frances Morgan was the mother of the Robinson kids and Morris kids, and she died in Oct 1869 Morehead Parish LA.

Mary's sister Emma C Robinson married John Adam Brandon in 1872 Anderson County by a Methodist circuit minister. I have this marriage information for Emma Robinson and John Brandon, but am also looking for a scanned copy or photo of original document. Could anyone tell me if that exists and/or where I could get help please?

It was presumed that Emma's midle initial stood C for the mothers maiden name of Calhoun, but that wasnt the mothers maiden name and it is unknown what it stood for. Emma and her husband John Brandon settled in Coryell County (although John and Brandon brothers came to TX first to Cranfil Gap and Turnersville area from Arkansas and earlier from MO.) Mary's middle name is not listed in any census records, but in her father's will (Dr Wm C. Robinson) it is listed as "F."

We believe the three Robinson "children" may have come to Anderson County perhaps to the Fort, first for help or to meet up with a family freind named Dulaney.

The Brandons probably came forst through Bosque,Hill and into other areas by mid 1870s. John Brandon has brothers including Hugh Brandon and Charles L. Brandon, and a presumed cousin Rufus Lafayette Brandon who all settled in nearby counties in Texas. (None had a wife named Mary except for L. B. and it doesnt seem likely his wife was our Mary Robinson but it is possible.) Hugh Brandon is buried in Throckmorton TX, and Charles is unkn burial, probably in Anderson or Hill Co. There was another brother Benton who may be aka L. B. Brandon who lived in Comanche County in 1900. Unknown where L. B. may be buried, or if sons are buried in Comanche area with him.

The Robinson brother John Walter Robinson ("Walter") lived with Emma and John Brandon in Coryell until mid 1880s. Walter Robinson married Mattie Waggoner and settled nearby Emma & John Brandon in Tehuacana (later Wortham) Texas. I have descendant list for both siblings. Emma & John and descendants are buried in Wortham. Walter & Mattie and their descendants are buried in Mexia Cemetery.

We do not know if Mary Robinson was married or when was deceased.

The story says that the Robinson children came to Texas with or to meet a family friend of the Robinsons named the Delaneys (Dulaneys, Delany, etc.) The Brandons came to Bosque area to be rangers/deputies and to help with "Indian problems."
I have had no luck tracing Delaney surname in connection with any of the Robinsons or Morris, Brandon or Waggoners or other family names.

If Mary Robinson came to Texas with the others it would have been about 1870-1872, and it seems likely she would have married in Texas very soon thereafter, maybe 1871-1874. I have death records for their mother in 1869 LA but no records for a death for Mary Robinson in LA through 1875.

Does anyone have any ideas where I could seek marriage records for multiple counties (Anderson, Coryell, Hill, Bosque, Navarro, Limestone, Freestone...), or that might have identifying elements in their information, like age or next of kin (to weed out the MANY Mary Robinsons?)

All help appreciated. THANK YOU.
Diane

They had several children, among them was Matilda and Oliver. The parents died in 1900, and I know that some of the Reeves children was living with My grandparents, Cornelius Nicholas Cox and Mary Jane Johnson Cox after 1900. There is a lot of information about the Johnson family, also the Cox family.
These were favorite cousins of my father, William Cornelius Cox. He talked a lot about them. I am hoping that there is a link out there about these people. Thanks.

Missing Moore Family in Dublin, 1910

I am looking for information on Perry Moore b,abt. 1883 in probably Texas and any of his descendants. Perry lived close to Gus Hickey and wife, Vassie Hickey, in Dublin Texas about 1910. Gus' parents were Augustus "Gus" Hickey and Ava Jane Moore Hickey. I believe this Perry Moore is part of my missing Moore Family. Perry Moore was related to Gus, I think he was a first cousin to Gus, through Gus' mother Ava. I believe that Perry's mother was Lucinda Moore, Ava's sister-in-law who married Henry Levi Moore, Ava's brother. Lucinda also married Cornelious Ruffin for a short time before she died. Her death was before January 1st, 1899 when Cornelious Ruffin married Lona Hickey, Ava's daughter. This is all shear speculation and conjecture at this point, about Lucinda being her sister-in-law, because Ava's family "thinks" that Lucinda was Ava's sister. I truely don't believe that Ava had a sister named Lucinda. The only sisters I have found for her were: F.C. Moore,b,1853; Maria L.,b,1863; Ellen J.,b,1866 and Clarinda,b,1868. My grandfather was Henry "Levi" Moore,(b.1860 Texas) Ava's brother. I believe that this Perry Moore is my father, William Henry Moore's half-brother by my grandfather's first marriage. Henry "Levi" Moore married again in December 1898 to Nora Lee Stanley in Wood County Texas and these are my grandparents. He was 39 years old and Granny was only 18 years old. I don't believe that any descendants of Levi's first family know about any of their half relatives. For some unknown reason they think Levi died in the late 1800's, but in fact he didn't. Any one having information on any of these families, please contact me.
Thank you,
Lavern

He was previously city marshal of Comanche. I would like to locate any ancestors, his date of birth and the inscription on his tombstone, if any, or a photo of the tombstone, or any newspaper articles. His name is on the National memorial but I am working to get his name on the Texas memorial.

I am looking for the true death date of Sarah STEEL, wife of Thomas Steel. Both are buried in the Amity Cemetery in Comanche County, Texas. Sarah's tombstone is a homemade concrete stone inscribed with "Sarah Steel, 1815-1904, wife of Thomas Steel". It sits on a concrete pad in which someone has scratched "died 7-22-1912". Her maiden name was Ludewell or maybe Ludwell. Her father was James Ludwell. She was the sister of my great-grandmother, Nancy Ludewell Carroll of Hunt County, Texas. Does anyone out there know her correct death date, and is there a way I can get her death certificate in Comanche County? She isn't listed in the Texas death index. Sarah's son was Sam Custer Steel, who was a Baptist Minister in the area in the 1920's and early 1930's. Thank you for your help.

Our Mary Ann Macon, was born in 1825 Upson CO Georgia, To Pleasant Macon and his wife Nancy, Mary Ann married a David J Johnson, The last I have been able to find Mary was in 1881 Brady, Mc Culloch Co Texas, she is listed as May A Johnson, age 54, a widow and keeping house for 3 or 4 of her almost grown children. The very next year, or any years following, she dissappears, I want to know when she died and where. I have been looking earnestly for several years. Many Johnson family folks are are still living say she lived to be quite old. I have looked in all the counties we know for sure she lived in at one time or another, all to no avail. Recently someone told me she died in Denton, De Leon area, but offers no tangible proof of that. Apparently a distant cousin , Thomas Jefferson Macon,b 1865 Al, d 1934 Robinson Springs Texas, he & his family moved from Bluff Eye or Blue Eye Alabama to Commanche Co Tx, and it was said that perhaps that is where Mary Ann Johnson ended up with one of their family members. This is my brick wall, as she just vanishes, please if anyone can find her anyhwere with this family or in the area or surrounding areas, please, please, help me out. Many thanks

Anyone know if there is a record of grave locations and how I may access it? My Grandfather, Aaron Wilson, was buried there in 1900 or 1901 - early 1901 is my best estimate. His Grave is unmarked. A family note says that his grave is in the "south part of old cemetery"

He lived in Dublin but was working somewhere around Comanche when he died of Typhoid at age 32. Almost certain that he was working as a farmer.

Thanks for any help. D. W. Wilson

I have in my possession two original State of Texas Marriage Licenses recorded in Comanche County. One license for a Miss Flora M. Broughton who married Oscar T. Tarrance in Comanche County on 12/23/1894 and a license for Miss Mary Broughton who married Chester E. Conlee in Comanche County on 12/6/1903. These were given to my by M. Leon Broughton and his wife Peggy before he passed away and though I am a Broughton descendant these two are not my direct line and I would love to find a "good home" with a family member who would enjoy having them. They are rather ornate and 11X14" (legal size) with the burnished Texas Star emblem on each certificate. For more information concerning these two certificates email me at sreedy5206@aol.com
Susan Reedy
Johnson/Haney/Bowling/Botts

Looking for info or descendants of Johnsons and Bowlings that came to Commanche area from Rowan County, Kentucky about 1892 and before:

Mary Elizabeth Johnson Haney Douglas;
Queen Victoria Haney Bowling;
Delaney Jefferson Bowling;
William McCord Johnson;
Jesse B. Johnson;
Alice Botts.

Mary Douglas moved to Commanche after her brothers William and Jesse. Apparently she ran a boarding house either in Commanche or the surrounding area.

Queen and Jeff Bowling raised their family of 6 sons and 1 daughter (at least their early years) in Commanche before moving to Cottle County.

Do any of these names ring a bell? Would enjoy sharing info (and I have lots, but still missing pieces) on the family with descendants.

Children of William and Martha Keith were: Josephine (oldest)born 1869 in TN, Spencer, Wilder, Magnolia and George M. Keith born 1878 in TN. I'm looking for any info. about those listed and other family members. Josephine and Charlie's offspring were: Mamie Ethel Nail-Keith my MGGM, Leonard, Ellis, Ruby Keith-Randall. After marrying in TX, Charlie and Josephine moved to OK. They lived in Willis, OK then moved to Temple, OK where Charlie died. Have much mor info. Any help is appreciated.
