Thank you. I've managed to find quite a bit on Charity Ann Van Cleave, and I seem to have traced the right Jess B Downing. With the amazing help of someone on another board, I've found bits on Charlotte Jones, Sarah "Dervy" Jones, and Milissa Jones.

I am descended from the Downings of Alabama (Calhoun & St Clair Counties), and Mary Downing Jones is in our family records but no one knew what became of her. Likewise Jinsey Downing.
