Sorry to read those words! Thing were different in my family. Mother battled breast cancer in 1972 and a second bout in 1982. As the second oldest, I called my siblings to a meeting where we made plans for mother's care, transportation, and comfort. I was a career military person so my actual "hands on" was limited. My four youngest siblings rotated responsibility for frequent care. My sister who was a Florida-resident planned vacations to relieve the younger children, ditto for another sister who lived 125 miles away. Mother lost her fight in 1987 but she went home happy! Have you inquired about assistance from the state? I currently reside in Delaware and they recognize the need for support of caregivers. The state will provide care so that the primary caregiver can "get away" on vacation or whatever! I'm sure you probably could use some "you time"?
