My great-grandfather Caswell Jordan CAMP b. 1852 in Panola co, TX told his grandson Jack CASTELLO: "I am half Indian, a member of the Choctaw tribe. I have relatives in Paducah (Cottle co.), Texas."

Caswell's parents, Johnson CAMP and Emily T. LACY, had migrated to Texas from Gwinnett co, GA. Johnson Camp died in a few years, and Emily Lacy Camp took her children and went back to her family (Georgia?). At age 15 Caswell CAMP returned to Texas and lived in Comanche county, where he married Sarah Emaline HARRIS in 1878. He was living with a daughter in San Angelo when he made the statement about being Indian and having relatives in Cottle county. He died in Cleburne, Johnson co.,TX in 1918. Any CAMPS or LACYs out there?

I am researching MATNEY. There are supposedly relatives in Cottle County, TX. Relationship would be to William H. Matney (my father) who lived most of his life in Wichita Falls. Many years back someone put together a genealogy called "The Matneys of Cottle County". If anyone has any info on Matney's or who I might contact on Matney's please let me know.

Dr. John W(allis) Harper, 1920 physician and surgeon in Paducha, Cottle Co, TX census

I would like to make contact with descendant of this Dr. John W. Harper who was born about 1880 in TX and married to Myrtle Augusta Herron. I do NOT know where they married but she was born 20 Aug 1886 in Mountain Home, Baxter County, AR to James Porter Herron and his second wife Mary Ann Sale. She is found for the 1900 Hill County TX census with her parents and may have also lived in Johnson Co., TX. I don't know much except a little about the wife. Her father must had died between 1900 and 1910 where she is found with her widowed mother and siblings.

This couple had a daughter Annie L born about 1914 in TX and is living with her parents in Paducha, Cottle County, TX in 1920. Also living in the household is found the sister of Myrtle Herron, Matilda Ether Herron Brindley Newsom/e) and her three daughters. There is some question about that sister as she is shown to be married to an Unknown Brindley and three children listed back Johnson Co living with Mary Ann Herron. Then she is also shown living in the Harper household under another surname but children all have the same birthdays as previously found but given names differ some.

From the 1920 census I find that Dr. Harper was born in 1880 in TX but I do NOT know who his parents were.

I cannot trace any of these people after the 1920 census. If you have any clue for me, please contact dbton@yahoo.com
The internet has been a less than adequate source concerning this subject around Paducah. Any contact information concerning hunting hogs would be appreciated. Myself and my friends are school teachers, so we try to avoid the large outfitters due to finances. We camp and sling arrows only! Most Ranchers do not even realize we are there in between the time we meet and leave. the last 5 years we have been hunting in Llano county, and we are geared up for a change!

thanks for your time,

Matt Maltsberger
Head FB Coach
Social Studies Dept.
Home (620) 205 9462

An extremely thorough history of Cottle Co and it's local families, with pictures.
If you email just use the word book in subject line, my spam guard is set at very aggressive, it blocks a lot of my emails.
I am in search of my Bullock family lineage. My g.grandparents are buried in Paducah, WILLIAM ANDREW BULLOCK b. 7-4-1883 d. 11-1962 and CLARA VESTA ELIZABETH WOOTEN BULLOCK b. 4-1-1891 d. 12-20-1974. There are also some of their children buried in Paducah. If any one could help me find out more about my family, this would help me with my medical problem. My grandfather CHARLIE JACKSON BULLOCK, SR. b. 8-5-1907 d. 4-27-1960, had heart problems, which in turn my father CHARLEY JACKSON BULLOCK, JR. b. 6-20-1936 (who by the way was born in Paducah) has had a quadruple by-pass. Now at the age of 40 I have had a stroke, due to the blood flow through my heart. So, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Jo Ann Bullock Bell

The 1910 Cottle co census, Prec 1, Paducah, dist 13, P 21 lists CLARK, Jake, 43 , widowed, Joe, 14, Agnes, 11. Our grandfather was Joe CALDWELL b. 1897 and raised by an aunt. His mother was listed as Betty CLARK on his SS app. Joe was in Cottle Co before WW1 and married there (to Iva Marlow) in 1918. Can someone rule out for me the possibility that Joe Clark is Joe Caldwell? I have been unable to find him in any census. Joe had children b. in Swearingen in 1919 & 1921.
This is a follow-up to the message which I posted in Oct 99. I have since found out that HP Cook's first name was Hobert. His wife's name is shown as Darkas N in the 1900 census but that may be Dorcas as the census has many misspellings. Also in that census they are shown with the following children:
Tobitha K (b.1890), Robert W (b. 1891), Ala M (b. 1893), Oma E (b. 1895), Ima T (b. 1897) and John J (b. 1899). If you are a descendent of any of these people please contact me. I am searching for information on Hobert Cook because James Cook's obituary(died 1942 in SLC) said that his brother HP Cook was living in Paducah, TX. Thanks for your help! ;-)

Looking for early Cottle Co. residents in the Woodward, Criswell and Neeley families. Specifically, trying to document the parents of Samuel Lee Woodward and Eva Lena Woodward Bohner. They were brought to Cottle/King Co. areas from MS about 1880s or later, and raised by the Tom and Mary Carpenter family. We don't know what happened to their parents, possibly J. Woodward and Sarah Chance/Chans Woodward.
I have discovered a letter mailed in 1906 at Eldorado, OK it traveled to Kirkland, Tex and on to Blanche,Tex. It was mailed to Harry Meehan, who was supposed to be in Cottle, Co at that time, I can find no trace of a post office called Blanche, the kirkland postmark was two days before the Blanche postmark, so it should have been close. Anything would help. thanks..

My Great Aunt Hester Florence Burke lived in Puducah, Cottle County, Tx in 1940 and was helping out on the Sheriffs election according to a note to my Grandfather Walter Burke from Florence dated July 25th, 1940. As far as I can tell she remained in Puducah for many years and may have passed away there. The next piece of information I have is when my grandfather tried to contact her in 1961 and the letter was returned marked as undeliverable.

Both my Grandfather and Great Aunt were orphans and separated when they were very young. Florence never married and may have served as a judge in the area at some point. If you have any information or clues that may help me find what happened to her would be most appreciated.
