Velma Patterson - Murder Trial 1936

Posted: 25 Apr 2009 5:09PM GMT
Classification: Query
Surnames: McCasland, Kelly, Patterson, Bates and Williams
As they sometimes say, the family members are the last to know. I recently discovered that Velma Marie Williams (1st cousin to my father) married (1) William "Vester" McCasland; (2) Raymond Kelley or Kelly (3) William Patterson and (4) Newman "Bud" Bates.

If anyone can shed some light on what happened during the trial for murdering her two daughters, Billie Fae McCasland and Dorothy Leon McCasland...I would be very interested.

I am baffled that Dr. Landon, Dallas chemist found evidence of arsenic and that Velma was aquitted. It doesn't add up.

Most interested in hearing from folks from the tri-county area of Delta, Hopkins and Hunt counties.

Many thanks.
