I checked a few things and the only lead, I could find that might lead you to learning more about the family is his daughter's Lura Wood Welch's obituary.
Mrs. Lura Welch — COOPER — Mrs. Lura Welch, 60, died at 4 p.m. Sunday in Palestine Memorial Hospital.
Arrangements are pending with Delta Funeral Home here.
She was born Jan. 26, 1915 in Alabama, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Wood. She lived in Klondike 30 years before moving to Palestine seven weeks ago. She was a seamstress and formerly employed by Simpson's Cleaners here. On Oct. 5, 1932, she married Olen Welch in Hugo, Okla.
Survivors include her husband; three sons, Olen Early Welch of Commerce Cove, James Welch of Tyler and Weldon Welch of Mesquite; two daughters, Mrs. Ruth Hill of Palestine and Mrs. Darlene Clark of Cooper; one brother, Alvie Wood of Harrisburg, Ark.; two sisters, Mrs. Effie Cummings of Garland and Mrs. Leddie Killum of Lancaster and 10 grandchildren. Source: The Paris News, June 30, 1975, page 10, column 3 (Paris, Texas). Maybe her children can help. Another possible contact would be the Delta County Library in Cooper, Texas to see if they have an obituary for Joe Wood published in the Cooper Review.
You gave me such good information about Martha and Jacob Thomas I was wondering if you were following the family. I have records where three of there five children ,Robert Lee Thomas b.abt 1867 died Dec. 31 1881,Mary E Thomas b. abt 1860 died Jan. 20 1882 and Nancy Will "Nina" Thomas b. abt 1860 April 14,1882. All in Louisville Ky. That left Hannah Amelia b abt 1870 and Anna B. b. abt 1874. We know what happened to Hannah but I can find no record of what happened to Martha or Annie. The death notices in the Courier Journal ask that the death notices be copied in St. Louis MO. for both Robert and Mary. Mary’s also included Indianapolis. Do you have any leads in that direction? After loosing three children so fast I would go looking for my family. Thank you Loretta

Thank you for your help. I found Jacob and Martha Thomas in Louisville Ky. where he was a riverboat Capt. They were in the 1870-1880census, and in several years in the city directory. He must of died about 1878 because it listed Martha in the city directory in 79 and 80, still living in the same house. Then they all disappeared. I would guess she remarried and went on to TX. That is where Amelia married Joel Frank Pierce in Delta County in 1890. For the life of me I can not figure why John C Pierce moved his family to TX. at his late age. I have found no records for Robert Lee Thomas in TX. I also can not figure out why Amelia would move to Corinth when all of Frank’s family is in TX.. I searched the 1910 Corinth census to see if there was a Martha that fit the right age, but found none. Aunt Hanna Frazier is a puzzle, 1910 census. I never found her on any other census, and her parents birth states MS/KY. does not match Martha’s TN/TN. Again thank you for your help. Loretta

Texas mandated vital records 1903. Compliance with the law lagged for several decades thereafter. Don't believe you'll find an official record of his death? From daily research, we find rare instances in which someone died in 1950s without a certificate. J. Frank did not serve during the Civil War. He was approximately age one when the conflict ended. His father probably fought but I'm unable to validate. Did not find a widow's pension application for Sarah.

Have you ever came across information that would put either of their parents in the Civil War. Amelia’s granddaughter said there was a picture in her mother’s house of a civil war soldier.
Texas' marriage certificates do not list names of parents. John C. Pearce wed Sarah Ann McPherson, 7 Jul 1852 in Monroe, MS. They were parents of J. Frank, among others. Find them 1870/1880 Chickasaw, MS. Several other siblings relocated to and expired in Texas. Find those easily via https://familysearch.org/ using the parental search option. You've done a good job tracing widowed Amelia and kids. Consider her parents may have been Jacob Thomas (ca. 1816 England) and Martha LNU (ca. 1840 Tennessee)? Find them 1870/1880 Jefferson, KY. Unable to find Amelia's siblings in Texas 1880-1900. Perthaps research of her aunt Hannah Frazier will confirm residence. Wonder if Amelia's middle name, Hannah, was bestowed in honor of her aunt? FYI, when posting for info in Texas please designate the "county". Many Texas cities/towns have the same names as counties in which they are not located. This is true of cities Houston and Austin, for examples, that are not in Houston and Austin counties.

He must have died prior to 1900 'cause she's with her parents in Hopkins-Precinct 3-District 52-Image 28? S. T. was Samuel per death certificate of Elic Hamiter (30 Nov 1969). I took the liberty of inviting the owner of "Samuel Boss Descendants" Family Tree to our conversation.

Thank you again.
The group in Arkansas came from Bossier. The group in Texas came from Claiborne Parish . They are all related (cousins) and used several of the same names.
My line would be the Texas group, that I'm looking for additional information on that lived in Delta/Hopkins County. Especially, where Adam C and Mariah are buried. And if any school information on John C.

Delta was created from Hopkins and Lamar, 29 Jul 1870. Hopkins was created from Lamar and Nacogdoches, 25 Mar 1846. Notice his, Adam's, profession on 1870 Hopkins-Precinct 3-Image 22. FYI, he's found with parents/siblings 1850 LA-Bossier-Township 21 Ward 3-Image 3 and 1860 AR-Sevier-Jackson-Image 8.

Martha Hamiter(32) listed as widowed in home of her parents with kids: Trevy P. and John T. Prior to then they're found 1870 TX-Hopkins-Precinct 3-Image 22.

Crow (1824-1864) and Susanna Thomas (1832-1907) -
I hope this information will be of help in our search for her heritage. I assume you have seen the notation that Martha died after being struck by lightening in Ben Franklin, Texas that brought on a premature birth - Martha died when Clinton Robert Walters was about 6 weeks of age.

You are seeking a response from a nine-year old posting. I'll help if you be more specific. Minnie I. Brackeen wed Jesse Amon Burnett, 11 Oct 1914, in Delta County. That's found https://familysearch.org/ While on that website, setup a "free" user account. You'll need that to access/print death certificates. Lookup death Jess Amon Burnett (16 Aug 1898 - 10 Dec 1957). Evidently, Minnie remarried? Lookup Minnie I. McGuyer (18 Aug 1901 - 24 May 1976). As for relations to Minnie, they can be traced rather easily. In 1900, her mother had given birth to four and three were still living. By 1910, she indicated eleven births with ten living? That's suspect 'cause only five kids under age ten were enumerated. Tell me what you want to do and we'll "get busy"? I'm not related.

My grandmother's (Ollie Bell Greggory born 1895) grandparents were Enoch Walters and Martha E. Crow. Her mother was Suzy Walters.

Ollie lived well into her 90's. She would tell us stories about her full-blooded Cherokee grandmother (Martha) and the trials and tribulations Martha had being married to a "white man."

In fact it was so bad that my grandmother was told never to mention her Cherokee heritage to anyone or else she would suffer the same prejudices against her.

Does anyone know where Martha was born in Tennessee. If we knew the town or country this would help in tracking her to the Cherokee registers of the time.

Enoch & Martha Walters were my husband's great grandparents-
his grandfather was Clinton Robert Walters - Enoch and Martha's last child, born in Ben Franklin just six weeks before Martha died (birth was july 28, 1893 and she died september 9, 1893)-
I traveled to Ben Franklin, Tx in March and attempted to find Enoch and Martha's grave in the "old cemetery" but it is severely overgrown and in total disarray -
would love to put a family picnic together this fall - complete with implements to clean the cemetery! I would be VERY interested in any and all information that other family members have amassed and would be happy to share the sparse information I have on Enoch and Martha, and of course the more extensive information on his son, Clinton and Clinton's descendants. I do have one picture of Enoch and one picture of Martha and have been told she was Cherokee - Blessings! Marjie

Ah, thank you. Do your Sissels have any connection to the Reed surname that you know of? I see you listed Reed as well. i don't know if you have this record but I just found both John and my ancestor on an agricultural census record for Delta County 1880. I am at a brick wall with my Reeds so I'm at the point where I'm checking neighbors. Thanks so much!

Do your Sissels have any relation the the John M and Francis A Sissel family of Delta, 1880. Children Eliza, Charley, John, Thomas, Robert, Mallie, and Albert? They lived next door to my Reid/Reeds, Martin Luther Reid and Nancy Herrin. Any connection?
