I have a death certificate for James B. McWhorter on Jan 1929 in Justin, Texas and it states that the person was buried at Union Cemetery. The undertaker was from Justin, Texas so I assume that the burial was close by there. Can anyone give the location of this cemetery as I can't seem to find it listed anywhere in Denton County.

Watson dying there 1919 and then his widow Missouri is living with a dau on the 1920 census in Denton co. I did not find them yet on the 1910 census. And older son is William Gideon that is in Denton co on the 1910 census. An obit, will or probate, or any other information about this Watson family would be greatly appreciated.

Hello

I am seeking info on my g-grandmother, Susan Glaze (b.1863 - d.1895-1900) oldest child (of 12) of Houston Glaze (1828-1898) & Mary Jane Parks Glaze (1843-1921), of Lincoln County, GA.

Susan married John Kauffman Gresham, of Wilkes County, GA., somewhere around 1880-1881, and had 3 sons (George Houston, Fred Parks, & Otis Quinn

I would also like to get parents/grandparents confirmed (with dates) for John Kauffman Gresham.

The info I have on John K. Gresham (1854-1907) is even more brief. Possible parents: George Gresham & Nancy S. Gresham. If those are the correct parents, then he had 5 brothers (Rufus, William, Edward, Benjamin, & George) and one sister (Lucy Ann).

I know John moved Susan & their sons to Texas (either Collin County or Denton County) in the late 1880s or early 1890s, but by the 1900 Census the sons had been sent back to Lincoln County, GA to live with relatives (but no mention of Susan) while John remained in TX and worked as a laborer, living as a boarder. He is classified as "single" on the 1900 Census.

I have been unable to locate any 1890 Census records -- wasn't there one done that year?

Do I have any Gresham relatives in the Collin or Denton County areas?

Thanks to anyone who can point me in the right direction!

James Coulter Kirkpatrick and family - 1870s Denton County, Texas

I'm trying to find sources, genealogy, family info, mention, etc. of Kirkpatricks in Denton County in the 1870s, specifically James Coulter Kirkpatrick (born around 1833 in Penn.) married to Easter (or Esther) Rose Kirkpatrick (born May 1848 in Tenn.). Their children were John J. Kirkpatrick (b. 1872 in Texas), Mary J. Kirkpatrick (b. 1873 in Texas) and William Alman Kirkpatrick (b. 1875 in Denton Co., Texas). I suspect that James Coulter Kirkpatrick died around 1875-76, because Easter moved to Joplin, Missouri, with the kids and married Henry McKee in 1877. I see from other posts that there was a Coulter family in Denton Co. in the late 1800's and wonder if there's a connection? Any leads would be greatly appreciated!

They were my husband's great grandparents. Most folks called Sallie by the nickname Birdie, and my father-in-law believes Liege was 1/2 Choctaw. I have no clue as to Liege's parents' names or of any siblings. Please respond if you know anything. Thanks.

Could someone please help me find the burial place of Elias Fish (1802-abt. 1855) and his wife Cynthia McKance Fish (1806-aft. 1870)? They apparently moved to Denton County in the early 1850s and Elias died there. The 1860 Census shows Cynthia living with their daughter and her husband, Everline and R.M. Thwekworth (sic???) at Little Elm P.O., Denton County. Cynthia later moved to Arkansas, and may or may not have been returned to Texas for burial with Elias. I would appreciate very much any help in finding these folks, who are my GGG-grandparents.

Death Lookups

I have been trying to locate the burial place of my gg gparents in Denton County, and also a gg uncle. How far back do the Denton County death records go?

My gg gparents are Joseph F. (or H.) HOFFMAN b. abt. 1812 TN, and Sarah M. HOFFMAN b. abt. 1814 TN. They came to Texas in the early to mid 1850's, and were listed on the 1870 Denton County census, and that was the last time I found them, so assume they both died before 1880.

The gg uncle was George T. REED, b.1833 AL, d. 1880 Denton County TX, and presumably was buried at Lewisville (unknown source for the city).

If anyone out there has access to this information, I will be forever grateful to receive it as this has been a search going on for years.

Thank you so much for your time.

Mary BAIN WENDLAND

Sidney moved with his father from Taberg, Oneida Co., NY to Illinois in 1857 to a small town situated on the Illinois Central Railroad, in Iroquois Co. He enlisted for the Civil War Aug 26, 1862, 113th Regiment Illinois Vol. He was wounded in the left elbow at the battle of Chichasawby in Feb 1863 and sent up the Mississippi river to Jefferson barracks, Missouri and was then transferred to the VRC and attached to the Hospital service and charge of "Ward F" until the close of the war when he was mustered out of service. He was a merchant and farmer, residing at Bowie, Texas.
In the 1880 census he was in E.D. 102 Denton Texas with his wife Eliza Jane Minerly Lobdel and his two sons William and Herbert.
I'd like to know death date and burial place of Sidney and his wife. Does anyone have connections to this family???
I'd love to hear from you. I have this Lobdell way back and would be glad to share.

Nancy C. [WHITLOCK] and Thomas C. NUNLEE in 1880, 1900 ???

Please share any information you can ?????????

Nancy [WHITLOCK] married Thomas NUNLEY 23 Jun 1872 in Colbert Co, Alabama. Nancy was the daughter of Hezekiah WHITLOCK and Matilda [GOFF] of Franklin and Colbert counties, AL.

Thomas signed his name "NUNLEE" on his CSA papers and his sons by his 1st marriage to Charlotte [PAINE] used that spelling also.

My cousin Jane thinks Thomas and Nancy could be her Great- grandparents: she has spent years and years trying to find either or both of them on the 1880 and 1900 census but has found no trace of either of them.

Her Great-grandfather, Augustus Harrison NUNELEE was born 28 Apr 1876 in Alabama and she hasn't been able to find him on the 1880 or 1900 census either. Thus she has never been able to settle the issue.

In 1910 Gus was was a HH in Denton Co TX, single, and living with only his Step-mother Martha age 60 born TN/Tn/Tn: no information was given as to whether she had any children. So, if Thomas and Nancy are Gus' parents they were both deceased by 1910.

Gus died 25 May 1913 in Texas when his only child was barely 9 months old and just 2 1/2 years after he married Mary Melviney [HERRON]. The state of Texas has no record of his death but it is believed he died in either Denton County where his daughter was born or Delta county where he is buried.

If you know anything at all about what happened to Thomas or Nancy would you please email me at the addy below ???
My heartfelt thanks,
Kathye Upham
n540kin@comcast.net

I'm searching for the date of death for Mary Whetstone, w/o JSJ Whetstone, as well as where she is buried. I believe she may have died in Denton County sometime between 1870 and 1876. The last census she is found is the 1870 Denton Co. in the JSJ Whetstone household. In 1876, JSJ remarried.

I wish I had more information to give to help find her. I'm hoping she is listed in one of the cemetery books. I've searched the transcribed cemetery records, but not all cemeteries are available.

Thank you in advance for any help!

I'm confused & need help! Their are 2 William Mack Daniel's who died in Denton, Texas. My William Mack was born Jan 21, 1864 in Missouri or Arkansas, died Mar 12, 1952 in Corpus Christi, buried in Sanger Cemetery, Denton, Texas. When he died he was living with son, Walter Grady Daniel in Corpus Christi. His wife was Victoria Tennessee Hughes. Sons are: Connie Lawrence, Walter Grady, and James Wayne. Daughters are: Frankie Alwilie, Mary Lucy, Jewel Beatrice, and Nellie. Census records show him living in Denton county from at least 1910 til 1930. Haven't been able to find him in earlier census records yet.

Another William Mack Daniel died in Denton county Jan 28, 1924. Could this be my William's father? I believe this William was married to Jane Anderson with at least 2 children Nancy Virginia and James Marshall.

Anyone know who these 2 men were & how they might be connected?

I am searching for the grave of Deliah Ball Mcquinn who according to the family bible died June 5, 1903 in Argyle, Texas. Her son George L. McQuinn is my great grandfather. The family bible states her birth was 1820 in Missouri. I would like to locate the grave and possibly an obit. Her husband is listed as James J. Mcquinn who died in Missouri in 1860. I would appreciate any help.

Their first child (Florence) was born at Pilot Point 30 Jul., 1863. Sallie and child must have lived with another family while Oscar was serving in the War.

I am looking for information on Sarah (West) DALE HOLT. She first married Calving DALE in 1853 in Red River Co., TX. They had a son named John. Apparently they were divorced between 1856 and 1862, as she married N. Houston HOLT in 1863 in Grayson Co. They had a couple children, James F. S. (abt. 1863) and Annie/Minnie (abt 1865). I haven't found Sarah in the 1860 or 1870 census. I did find her first husband in those census records. I did find her with her children in 1880. Her husband (HOLT) was in prison in 1880.

1860 census, Grayson Co., TX. Just C.S. Dale (29, b. TN) and in the same home, John F. (4, b. TX) - no female
1870 census, Grayson Co., TX. C. S. and son John were still in Grayson Co., TX. No one else in this home.
1880 census, Grayson Co., TX. Calvin Dale living alone, 50, b. in Alabama F-TN M.-TN

1880 Census, All Townships, Denton Co., TX., ED# 103
Sara N. Holt, 43, Keeping house, OH KY VA
James F. S. Holt, 17, son, Laborer, TX TN OH
Annie (or Ninnie/Minnie) D. Holt, 15, dau, At school, TX TN OH
John F. DALE, son, 24, House painter, TX ALA OH
Henry HOLT, 10 (or 20), Servant, TX MO MO
William HELMICH, 24, boarder, TX Europe Europe

Sara's husband N. H. Holt was in the Penitentiary in 1880-
1880 Census, Huntsville, Walker Co., TX., ED# 152
N. H. Holt, White male 42 married laborer born in TN.

I'd really like to know what happened to anyone in this family. I haven't been able to find them after 1880.

I'd really appreciate your help with this family.

I have come into possession of a very neat little manuscript written by Helen Moore Hasten of Lewisville, Denton County, Texas. In it Mrs. Hasten tells stories about her family and of growing up in the Lewisville area.

Here are the names that are mentioned. Some are included in the stories, others are only mentioned in passing:

Jonathan and Emily Peach
Thomas Jefferson and Angeline Elizabeth Peach Moore
Charles Hollis and Eula Cross Moore
Guy and Lela Wagoner Moore
Fred and Jewis Evadna Moore Crawford
Clayton Tandy and Nannie Jones Moore
Joe and Bulah Moore Street
Bernice Thomas and Ruth Bradley Moore

Geraldine Moore
Tommye Opal Moore
C.O. and Helen Frances Moore Hasten
Charles Alvin Moore

Frank and Nannie Crawford
James Crawford
Garland Crawford
Brad Moore
Raymond Crawford
Mary Frances Clark
Carleta Clark

Bob Ferry

Alien Nowlin
Lillian Morriss
Caroline Street
Roy Williams
Floyd E. William and Roland, I think, were in Medina Co TX in 1900.

I would very much like to find more information on Samuel’s siblings and parents. Where does Chilton Smith fit in? Or does he?
I am seeking information on a killing that supposedly took place in Denton County< Texas, around 1875. Hamilton County Tennessee gunman Joe Ritchey reportedly killed a man who had stolen a horse from an elderly friend named Phillips. Ritchey turned himself in but, fearing extradition to Georgia or Tennessee for previous killings escaped from jail and fled to Newton County, Arkansas. He may have used the alias of Still or Stillboy. Any help is appreciated. Robert S. Davis, PO Box 687, Hanceville, AL 35077-0687.

Some months before January 1891, Mrs. Phillip LINDONBORN went to Marfa (Presidio County) to retrieve her son, John LINDONBORN, who was seriously wounded in the discharge of his duties as a deputy sheriff at the mines. He had been shot three times and his leg was amputated. His mother brought him back to Pilot Point (Denton Co). The Pilot Point Cemetery reports Phillip (May 19, 1836-Sep 5, 1896) and P.W. LINDONBORN (Aug 12, 1860-Sep 6, 1883) buried there. My question is whether John LINDONBORN aurvived his wounds?

Looking for info on Benjamin and Martha Davis in Texas & Louisiana - late 1800s

My great-grandmother was Jenette (Jenetta)(Nettie) Davis. She was one of what seems to have been many children of Benjamin and Martha Davis. I am seeking information about the family. Benjamin was from Louisiana, but Martha was from Texas. The family lived in Louisiana in 1880. My great-grandmother Nettie seems to have been a bit unconventional and is rumored to have worked in Buffalo Bill (Bill Cody)'s Wild West show. Nettie Davis is also rumored to have gotten pregnant with my grandfather, John (Johnnie), out of wedlock. She married an older man, Mr. Galdos from Spain and had another child. The Davis family was rumored to have a long-standing feud, Western style, with another Texas family. I am seeking any information.

Looking for family connections for reseach project. Please help.

Hi ,
I have found the surnames of Reynolds,my dad and Lockhart, my mom and her dad and of Cotton, my granny Lockhart and the surname of my dads mom too who was Carrie Gertrude Scott . I wonder if they were all there at the same time or if this is different ones????? Also just found the Wisdom name(married one a long time ago) Uncle Jake Lockhart married LaVerne Simpson, Aunt Maudie Lockhart married Frank Rhodes,so many surnames? Any information on any ot them?
I have e-mailed already about the Reynolds family, but I also saw Lockhart family here. I am from the Thomas Eugene Lockhart family His father was Samuel Luther Lockhart whose father was Joseph Warren Lockhart and so on. If any connections I would like to share information e-mails and even letters about my family histories. My grand mother was Minie or Minnie Eva Cotton, I found documents with both spellings. My granny Lockhart told me her dad was a buffalo hunter and I saw pictures of this and her mother was french. I don't have much more information. We use to spend every summer in Llano with them but I never wrote anything down, wish I had now. I am 57 and trying to do it now for my children, grand and ggkids.
My name is Donna Reynolds Gutierrez. I live in Nixon, Texas. My grandfather was P.G. (Pearl Grover) Reynolds who according to census records is or was the father of a son born in Denton County,Texas on April 25,1939 to a lady named Dorthy Ellers. That would make Albert Preston Reynolds my uncle. The last uncle was uncle Jack who passed away. He would come stay with us and it was so wonderful when he would visit as he would talk about the family and he looked so much like my dad it was almost like having dad back with us. My dad was Donald Cleston Reynolds who married Bertie Lockhart. all the elders have passed away and I now find myself as one of the elders. I am trying to preserve our family history in a book called" Legacy of Love". If you have any information or perhaps you even know Albert Preston Reynolds who would be around 69 if still living, I would be thankful for any information. I am having trouble with my grandmother Carrie Scott Reynolds maiden Name history, cannot find out who her ancestors are, she came from Arkansas, but do not know where. Anyway this is just a shot in the dark but maybe it could possibly shed some light on the subject. Donna Reynolds Gutierrez 649 Private Road 1131 Nixon,Texas 78140 phone 830 582 1973. Thank You and God Bless you.
