Master Sgt. Cirildo Valencio, U.S. Army, of Carrizo Springs, Texas - Korean MIA Identified

On the Web:
http://www.defenselink.mil/releases/release.aspx?releaseid=1...

-----------------------------------------------------------

IMMEDIATE RELEASE No. 630-08
July 24, 2008

-----------------------------------------------------------

Soldier Missing in Action from Korean War is Identified

The Department of Defense POW/Missing Personnel Office announced today that the remains of a U.S. serviceman, missing in action from the Korean War, have been identified and will be returned to his family for burial with full military honors.

He is Master Sgt. Cirildo Valencio, U.S. Army, of Carrizo Springs, Texas. He will be buried on Aug. 4 in Arlington National Cemetery near Washington, D.C.

Representatives from the Army met with Valencio’s next-of-kin to explain the recovery and identification process on behalf of the Secretary of the Army.

Valencio was assigned to Company L, 3rd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division then occupying a defensive position near Unsan, North Korea in an area known as the “Camel’s Head.” On Nov. 1, 1950, parts of two Chinese Communist Forces divisions struck the 1st Cavalry Division’s lines, collapsing the perimeter and forcing a withdrawal. In the process, the 3rd Battalion was surrounded and effectively ceased to exist as a fighting unit. Valencio was one of the more than 350 servicemen unaccounted-for from the battle at Unsan.

In 2002, a joint U.S.-Democratic People’s Republic of Korea team, led by the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command (JPAC), excavated a burial site south of Unsan near the nose of the “Camel’s Head” formed by the joining of the Nammyon and Kuryong rivers. The team recovered human remains.

Among other forensic identification tools and circumstantial evidence, scientists from JPAC and the Armed Forces DNA Identification Laboratory also used mitochondrial DNA and dental comparisons in the identification of the remains.

For additional information on the Defense Department’s mission to account for missing Americans, visit the DPMO web site at http://www.dtic.mil/dpmo or call (703) 699-1420 or (703) 509-1905.

I'm trying to find information on this family. John was my great grandfather. After the death of his wife Florence, my great grandmother, he supposedly remarried Ruth Phelps and had a daughter, Frances. According to my aunt, this remarriage was a well kept family secret so I have no information on my great aunt, who may still be alive. If anyone knows anything about this marriage and family, please contact me.
Thank you.

I have heard that he has a son named Manuel Ruiz Jr. I do not know anything about him except that he was once in Robstown, TX. My mother found him through the internet one time, and she said he lived in Asherton, TX. The only Manuel Ruiz I have found over the internet that lives in Asherton is a Manuel F. Ruiz. If anyone has any information, please contact me.
Thank You

Granny KELLOGG was a BASS. ~1900 - 1960 DIMMIT, ZAVALA Counties. THOMSON

Granny Kellogg was a Bass. Ora May BASS KELLOGG married Frank Ray KELLOGG, Carrizo Springs Dimmit County. He dug wells. He died about in the 60s, both probably born 1900ish. Frank Ray Kellogg dug wells all around Carrizo Springs, Crystal City areas.

Two of Ora May's children are Donald and Lela Belle KELLOGG. Lela Belle's second husband was Jesse "Jack" (Howard or Henderson) THOMSON (Jr?). Well, his dad was Jessie "Jack" Henderson THOMSON but somehow it turned out that this Jack was Jack Howard. Go figger. They're all Jessies called Jack or Jackie. Don KELLOGG died in Bandera County, Lela Bell KELLOGG THOMSON in San Antonio.

Jack of the outhouse tooth was a WWII Navy Seabee. Had a solid gold Texas star right in his front tooth. He took his Lela Belle and JoNell, Maxine, and little Jackie down to Guadalajara in the 1950s, working for the government (ours or theirs?) killing off livestock during that anthrax epidemic. Back and forth, they lived in San Antonio BEXAR. Those THOMSON Jesses have McHUGH back there somewhere, and right now I'm not but what a DONALDSON, too, but which fits where has gone confusing. Maxine's got that tooth, too. There might be more I'm not tellin'. Yet.

Are you related to any of these people?
