Shoemaker working in Clarendon in 1920s or early 1930s

I am researching a painting by noted artist W. Herbert Dunton. It is a portrait of a shoemaker.
According to an article about Dunton, a Clarendon shoemaker made Dunton several pairs of "shoe-boots" sometime during the 1920s or early 1930s. I am wondering whether the painting is a portrait of that Clarendon shoemaker.
If you have any information about any shoemaker working in Clarendon during this period, I would greatly appreciate hearing from you. Thank you.
I visited Citizens Cemetery in June of 2007. My great grandfather and his oldest son, Samuel Lee and Oma Lee Ramsay
are buried there (section 360 40). I also found a person named Joe Lewis buried in the same plot. The three stones
are all the same style. Joe is listed in the 1930 Census records for Donley CO, TX, but I haven't been able to view the complete record. I haven't had much luck in finding how Joe is related to the Ramsay's he is buried near. So I thought
I would post and maybe someone out there might know something.

Joe Lewis "Uncle Joe" is written on top of the stone.
Dates as follows:
March 29, 1865
November 30, 1931

Prior to 1912 (when she married), my grandmother Clara Crim taught school on a ranch near Clarendon. My father told me the name before he died, and I would recognize it if I heard it again. I have an old copper chafing dish that my grandfather gave her when they were "courting"--she probably used in her lodging on that ranch. If anyone could tell me the names of some of the old ranches in the area, I would very much appreciate the information. Also, is there a local history museum in Clarendon? Thanks!!

P.S. She always spelled her name with one 'm', but her father used two.

Hedley, Texas

I believe these are the sons of an OB Davis found in the 1930 census in Donley County.

I have a feeling they are friends of my line, but if anyone is related and would like a copy of the picture, please let me know.

Gwyn Varozza

I have found out from Robertson Funeral Directors in Clarendon that she was buried in Citizens Cemetery in July 1956 (she passed away on 7/16/56). However, they cannot pinpoint the exact location in the cemetery. She lived with her son-in-law and daughter George and Ora Beasley in Hedley, who are also deceased. Prior to her marriage to Mr. Fowler, she was married to my grandfather, Columbus Frank Britt.

I am looking for information on Doris Mae (Or May?) (Johnston?) Maxey Talley. She is burried in the Citizens cemetary but I can't find information on her parentage. She was born (According to the headstone) in May 1909 and died Dec 1998. I know she was married to William Oscar Maxey (1900-1954) and they had a boy Richard Oscar Maxey on May 26 (Or March 26) 1927. They also had an infant girl on May 22,1929. She remarried Chester Talley after her first husbands death. I found her in the 1930 census in Donley county. And I know that Oscar was listed as living with his parents still in the 1920 census in Donley county. I also found a Social Security Death index for a Walter H Johnston listed as living from 26 Nov 1909 to 19 May 1998 with his last residence listed as Donley county. I think this is highly suspicious as actually being her death index. I did find a Walter H Johnston born in about 1893 in the 1900 census in Kaufman Texas. I am wondering if this might be a brother's social security number that she took? But the father's name is not readable. I also show that she was married first at 17 meaning 1926 and the 1930 census shows both her mother and father were born in Texas.

I understand that Richard Harrison Davis (d. 1933) died in or near Clarendon.

I'm looking to connect Richard as the father of George. Any connections?

Also interested in the parents of Pearl Love (born about 1884).

George and Pearl had several children. Their son, George Andrew Davis, Jr. (1920 to 1952) received the Medal of Honor posthumously for his service in Korea.

George and Pearl's oldest daughter was Elna George Davis (1906 to 1995) married John Franklin Fletcher (1904 to 1984)

Info on article or famous bank robbery, and chase?

Several years ago I read a magazine article about a bank robbery in Clarendon in the early 1900's. The article was more about the chase than the robbery. The sheriff was my great great uncle James T Patman. I would really like to have a copy for our family history. Does anyone remember where to find the article or how find any details about the actual events.

Thank You
James R. Patman

My grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Samuel Williams, moved to Clarendon, Donley County, TX just before the birth of my mother, Mavy T. Williams, in October 1907. The family story is that her first name came from the daughter of someone who moved his family to Donley about the same time. He had a name like Judge Anderson. Has anybody ever seen a name like MAVY in their researches? Or could it have been MAEVE and misspelled? I checked the census for 1910 and did not find anyone by that name.

BTW, my mother is still alive and kicking and living in Southern California. You Texans are a tough breed.
Thank You,
Jack Cormode

Am wondering if anyone does census look-ups in Donley County. Am looking for a Bernhardt Noack who was in Donley County in 1912. I do not know his age at that time nor do I know if he was head of household, living with family of the same name or with different family name. I have found a B Noack listed in the Citizens cemetery. The word "purchase" appears after his name and I do not know what that means. Can anyone explain. The cemetery record reads "Noack B Purchase unmarked 4170 17". If any one has any ideas of how to find additional info. on this individual, I would appreciate hearing from you. Thank you, Cynthia Raney

I'm seeing information on the burial location of Simon G. Adamson for the possible inclusion of him in the 2nd volume of "Notable Civil War Burials in Texas". Simon Adamson is being considered for he was a member of the Immortal 600.

I have found information leading me to beleive he died at the home of his brother John Thomas Adamson of Headly on Oct. 11, 1911. I can find John Thomas in the Rowe Cemetery and many other Adamsons and a Simon G. but the dates are wrong for him.

Any information on this would be greatly appreciated.
