I am a volunteer for the Texas Peace Officers Memorial. Rufus B. GLOVER, county & district clerk for Duval County, served as a deputy US Marshal attempting to combat the Garza revolutionaries during the Garza Troubles. He was killed on 31 Jan 1892 near Benadives. I am searching for any surviving family and his place of burial.

Researching the ancestry of my great grandmother Maria M. MEDINA ROBLEDO. And a possible connection to the family of MANUEL G. DIAZ, who lived in Duval County,Tx; during the early 1900s.
On the 1910 census for Duval County, Tx; MANUEL G. DIAZ last name is listed as GARZADIAS. There are two grandchildren living in the home with Manuel; granddaughter MARIA M. MEDINA; and grandson GILBERTO M. MEDINA. Could anyone tell me; the name of Maria Medina's mother. As she is not listed as living in the household.

I am a volunteer researcher for the Texas Peace Officers Memorial Duval County deputy sheriff Archie McNEILL was reported to have been fatally wounded on 2 July 1900. Any family information, place of burial, did he die from wound, or disposition of any criminal case will be appreciated.

All I know is that they were my grandparents. I am looking for information regarding when/where they were born and passed away and who their parents were. I know they are buried in Benavides. They had a lot of children, some were named Cristobal, Criseldo. Hortencia, Dora (nickname?) I have an aunt nicknamed Maya and my mom is Maria Audelia - I'm sure I've left people out. My mom married Juan Rodriguez in 1957 - they live in Korea. We are a military family so I really don't know any of the family. I live in Washington DC and can't find any information over here. Is there anyone out there who knows something? I have unlimited long distance, so I am willing to call you. Thanks for your time and assistance.

SENDEJO & RODRIGUEZ of Bess/Mendiates/Alamo NE Duval Co.

Am researching family of Santos SENDEJO who lived at or near the community of Mindiette or Mendiates, later known as Bess in NE Duval Co. Descendants also call this location Alamo, Texas, although I can not find any such listing on any map. Santos was known as "Tatita"; he was born 9 Nov 1865 in Mexico; son of Sostenes SENDEJO and Petra GUAJARDO. He had a child with Serapia ZENDEJAR (or ZENDEJAS) in Texas, and the child was called Teodoro SENDEJO. Serapia later married David GARCIA. Santos died 22 Nov 1954 at Bess, and was buried in the "Bess Cemetery". This cemetery is located next to the ruins of the old church at Bess on County Road 109, and today appears to be abandoned. A ranch driveway exists over the area of the old cemetery, although a few concrete crosses can be found on the opposite (north) side of the driveway with the names of BENAVIDEZ and SANCHEZ.

Teodoro SENDEJO (1 Apr 1889-11 Dec 1937) was a constable and deputy sheriff, who married Virginia RODRIGUEZ on 30 Dec 1915 at a JP in Jim Wells Co., daughter of Juan RODRIGUEZ and San Juana CAVAZOS (or CABAZOS). San Juana died in 1921 and is reported on her death certificate to be buried at Alamo, Texas. I'm assuming this is the same cemetery as "Bess Cemetery" described above. Teodoro and Virginia had 3 children - Serapio, Guadalupe, and Pedro. Teodoro and Virginia are buried in the San Diego Cemetery.

Serapio SENDEJO (born 1916) and his wife, Lucinda PEREZ, live in Falfurrias, Texas. Their granddaughter is my wife. If anyone has information on any of these persons, we would be interested in exchanging information. Thanks!

Teodoro SENDEJO appears to have married earlier to Paula FLORES on 2 Jun 1913, according to a marriage license from Duval Co. The celebrant was Fr. J.P. Bard, known to be the pastor of the Catholic church at San Diego, so I'm assuming they married at the church there.

Duval County Deputy Killed in the Line of Duty

I am looking for any information on Oscar Briones. He was Duval County Deputy Sheriff who was shot and killed on February 28, 1949 while making an arrest in a Benavides Bar. His fathers name was Francisco Briones and his mother was listed as Petra V. Briones. The information for the Death Certificate was provided by Ramiro Briones. He is supposed to be burried in the Benavides Cemetery.According to the newspaper articles, Louis Garza was attested and charged with his murder.

I am searching for two girls, whom I have forgotten their last maiden names. They were Marilyn and Alice who lived in Benevides in the late 40's. My Dad worked in the oil fields and we lived there for about two years and then later for another year. We moved to Louisiana and never returned again. But they have remained in my memory.

This message is just in the hopes that someone might know or be one of these two girls. Alice was the older girl and would have been in the local school as I was. Might be that the school has records of them.

Please, i could use some help. I have endlessly been looking for my uncle from MA. His name is Alfred Davis, born around 1912. He lived with my grandparents in North Adams MA for years. Then one day, he was gone. Rumor was, that he relocated to Jacksonville, FL He may have passed by now, as he would be in his 90's. He was married in 1941 in Fitchburg, MA. Matias and Victoria moved to San Antonio, Bexar Co., TX. I would appreciate any information whether it be of either family.. ancestors or descendants. I know that there was a Garcia Family Reunion in Duval County about 15 years or so ago. I only wish that I had been able to attend.

BRAGG-DESPAIN Feud

I am in search of any information regarding the feud between the BRAGG and DESPAIN families. As a small child I was told bits and pieces. I was forbidden to talk to a DESPAIN in my first grade classroom. I was also told by my grandfather Shelby Jacob (Red) BRAGG that at the time of my birth in Freer that there was a DESPAIN baby that was in the nursery and the doctor was asked to send him home so I wasn't in the same room with a DESPAIN. What I have been able to research so far is that it started when Jesse BRAGG killed Frank DESPAIN in Freer. Jesse BRAGG was also killed by Ed DESPAIN at a rodeo in Miranda City (10 SEP 1950) in revenge for the first killing. Any information would be greatly appreciated .

Duval County Constable Clementino Reyna

Was shot and killed on Feb 6, 1893 at a bar in Benavides while trying to break up a fight between A.K. Valls and Hayes Dix. He was killed by E.A. Glover. Glover was sentenced two years, but case was appealed and reversed. I am looking for any information on Reyna.

Trying to locate Marcelino R. Galindo's relatives. Marcelino was born about Jan. 9, 1887-1889 in San Diego, Duval County, Texas. His father's name was Evaristo Galindo, his mother's first name was Dolores, maiden name unknown.

Evaristo Galindo had at least three children, one of them was Marcelino. Marcelino worked on a ranch and was a cotton picker/farmer. His brothers also worked on a ranch. Possible names of Marcelino's brothers are Francisco and Juan living somewhere in South central Texas in 1950's.

Marcelino lived in Derby, Texas from about 1910 - mid 1940's.

Parr - Wright

Looking for any information that would confirm that a cousin of my father married into the Parr family of Duval County, Texas. My father, Paul Lawrence Amos (who is now deceased) told me he had a cousin who married Atlee Parr. Atlee is a brother of the famous Duke of Duval County, George Berham Parr. There was another brother also, Givens Archer Parr. I am of the opinion that this cousin was a Wright (perhaps her first name was Ethel - to the best of my recollection). My father's maternal grandfather was Moses Emory Wright (my grandmother was born to Moses by his first wife) and he had three sons by his second wife, Mary Keller - their names were George, Joseph & Daniel Wright. Believe "Ethel" or whomever, was a daughter of one of these sons. I am grabbing at straws here but any information would be appreciated.

William Hubbard and Mary Wood

I am looking for information on William HUBBARD, born on 23 June 1840 in Saxony, Germany (probably known then as the Kingdom of Sachsen), and died on 30 July 1900 in Del Rio, Texas, burried in San Diego, Duval County, Texas. William married on 7 July 1888 to Mary Chilista WOOD.

Mary was born on 18 November 1866 in Hannible, MO, daughter of Edward and Mary (MURPHY) WOOD. She died on 3 March 1943 in San Antonio, TX.

William and Mary Hubbard had a daughter, Lucretia born 30 March 1889 in Dan Diego, Duval Co., TX. She married Clyde PENNWELL.

I think that William HUBBARD may have been raised by a Hubbard family after the death of his step mother. It is my suspicion that William is the son of Peter EICHHORN who lived in Castroville, Medina County, TX in 1850.

Ernest and Zoe had three daughters: Allie May Atkins born about 1912, Lee Eunice Atkins born about 1914, and Mary Clare Atkins born about 1919.

Children of Candido Rosales and Merced Benavides were:

ii.Victor ROSALES; b. 1872 San Diego, Duval, Texas; m. Victoria Hernandez 16 Apr 1917 Fredericksburg, Gillespie, Texas; d. 1 Dec 1941 Kerrville, Kerr, Texas.

Merced also married a second time.

1. Atilano SANCHEZ; b. 1834 Mexico; m. Merced Benavides.

Juan Perez b. Dec 1866 m. 1896 to Librada Soliz b. Feb 1880

They had the following children:
Eloise(Elodia), Matilde, Guadalupe, Rosalio, Jose Maria, Josefa, Miguel, Juan all born in Texas, according to Census Records

Who are the parents of Juan and Librada? Juan was born in Mexico and Librada in Texas. The 1900 Census shows them to be in Duval Co. with the first two daughters.

The decendants of some of these children are just getting to know each other. The family would like to find others. Any help is appreciated.
