Hello, I am Elma Ryan. My maternal grandmother was Estefan Saenz who married Pedro Casas. Her parents were Marciano Saenz and Eulalia Garza. Marciano's parents were Nieves Saenz and Ruperta Maldonado whose ancestories have been impossible to obtain. I know that some children including Marciano, were born in Agualeguas, NL after which the all settled in Duval County, Texas.

I have been able to obtain a few previous generations in the Casas line but am still looking to fill the voids for these two along with others.

Your help is appreciated.

i am searching for information on my grandfathers mothers side of the family. my grandfather told me that the family was sent from spain to colonize Texasa and was given abt 35,000 acres. he said it was his great grandfather Hilario (ylario,Ilario,Elario??) Perez that was granted the land from Queen Isabel. they settled in south Texas on a ranch my grandfather calls Los Encinos. His aunt (greataunt) currently resides on what is left of the acreage (abt 3000. if anyone can help me or is of relation to this Perez famly please let me know thank you

My father Francisco Perez Ruiz was born in San Diego, Texas in 1929. His mother was Trinidad Perez Perez. My great great great great grandfather was Pablo Perez who founded San Diego, Tx. (originally named Perezville). I want to research my family. My brother has discovered that an earlier descendant is Giovanni Schiapapri (Chapa) born in Italy in 1627. Thank you.

The descendants of Edward Nixon Gray and Rosa Garza Garcia Gray will be having a Texas Historical Commission Marker dedication on April 11, 2010 at the entrance to the Gray Ranch near San Diego, TX. The Gray Ranch was formerly known as El Ranch La Gloria, and is currently the Temple Ranch. If you are a descendant and want additional information, let me know through E-mail at steve@sgray.com. I'm just back from a fact finding trip to Cotulla, Texas and found the following passage in a cookbook of all things,

"According to many witnesses, including Simpson DeSpain's ex-wife, on May 2, 1946 Jesse C. Bragg shot and killed Popeye and Molly's son Simpson Franklin DeSpain, Jr. in Duval county. In case No. 2678, a jury found him "Not Guilty" on May 15, 1947. when this happened, all the DeSpain family vowed revenge."

Have you tried familysearch.org? Click on Search Records and select Pilot search. It is a wonderful source and there are some entries in Canada just not sure if that will help you.

Sorry I have no information on your family. I just wanted to tell you I am having the same problem with my great grandfather who was born in Benavides, Duval County. I tried calling Austin to see if his records were there, but they didn't have any record of him. It's very frustrating.

I have this family line in Karnes, Webb and Duval, Starr counties, Realitos, Hebbronville, Tienditas Ranch, and Laredo, Texas and also in Mier, Mex.. Also associated with Mother Cabrini Church of Laredo. Chapa’s from Chapeno Rnch.
They are in the 1870, 1880, 1910, 1920, 1930 Tx census.

for Anestacio Canales' death. He could be the one that died in 1942 in Robstown,Tx. For obituary you could check the Caller.com website. I did find Librada had only been in Realitos for 1 month when she died. Her family was the Juan Gutierrez and Antonia Chapa family who was originally from Guerrero, Tamaulipas before settling in South Texas. There is a Juan Canales, Sr. that died in 1960 in Tienditas that lists Anestacio Canales and Librada Gutierrez as parents with Servando Canales as informant.

Try the pilot website; it is great. If you click on the black square to the left of the name, you can actually see the death record or census record.

Another good source for this family is Jerry, Sr. that runs Jerry's Diner in San Diego. He ties in to the Cantu/Gutierrez family which is where Librada Gutierrez decends from. Good luck.

South Texas

Brick wall- Canales-I have Anastacio Canales, b. 1849 registered in Mier Mex..- immig/naturalized in 1877 to TX. He married Librada Guiterrez in Duval county Dec.15, 1877. I have their household: Samuel 1889, Placido 1895, Alfredo 1891, Leopoldo 1895, Jesus or Jesusa 1898, Csau? 1899, Antonio 1902, Casemido 1904, Jose 1907, Eliza 1897, Glessria 1885. all born in TX. Helped raise Hinojosa relatives. Also listed on census- Lazaro, Eloisa, Celistino, Fransisca, Ferman.

I have Librada’s death cert, info: place of death is Tienditas Rch, Texas prect. #6 Realtos in Duval county. Place of burial is Tienditas Rch Tx. In 1941. He is not buried in her cemetery or at least there is no stone. Other local Realitos cemeteries have been searched by foot. No luck. She was a midwife. Her parents are: Juan Gutierrez and Antonia Maria Chapa. They are in the 1880, 1910, 1920 Tx census. Possible cemetery for Anastacio is Clovis Cemetery.

Anastacio was a farmer. Hired son Placido to work in 1914. Anastacio possible death is 1924?. He is not in the Seaburry papers. Not in ancestry.com parish database. Not found yet in Mier church baptisms. No land grants. Was a residence Realitos Tx.

World War II soldoers from Texas in Canadian Forces

I am looking for information on Americans from Texas that traveled to Windsor, Canada to enlist in Essex Scottish of the the Canadian Forces in 1940/41. My grandfather, Fred McLean, came from Duval County, Texas. He traveled north to Canada in early/mid 1941. He was killed a year later in France leaving his Canadian family with no contact with his family in Texas. There are no records of his existance in Texas. I am trying to find any information on others who traveled the same path that might have known him.

I'm looking for information regarding my grandfather, Fred McLean, born 1916 in Duval County Texas. He left Texas in 1941 for Canada to enlist in the Canadian forces and was killed in France in 1942. He said he was from Benavides, Duval County Texas, and worked as a photographer and ranch hand. His father was Pete McLean and mother named Yvonne. He had a brother named Thomas McLean who was killed in Mexico. There is no record of any of these people anywhere. Does anyone know of a good source of informaion for Benavides for the 1930's'40's? I have long lost family in Duval County Texas somewhere. I would like to find them.

GLOVER, county & district clerk for Duval County, served as a deputy US Marshal attempting to combat the Garza revolutionaries during the Garza Troubles. He was killed on 31 Jan 1892 near Benadives. I am searching for any surviving family and his place of burial.
