Samuel Stuison Holt, born June 1840 in Alabama (some info reads Kentucky), died 28 Feb 1911 in Ennis, Ellis Co, TX. In 1872 married Sarah (1852-1928) and had seven daughters and six sons. He was found in the 1910 Census with Sarah and four children. On the same page is Cleve (Cleveland) Holt and wife Annie. He and Sarah were in Alabama through the 1900 Census. There isn't information on when he first arrived in Texas.
--Obituaries were not as common then as today. A true obituary then was written by a reporter about the rich/famous/infamous or victims of crime or accident. However, with such a large family present, there probably would be at least a death notice published. There were 5,961 enumerated in Ennis, 53,648 in the county, in the 1910 Census, there should have been a newspaper.

The Ellis Co. Gen. Soc. Does not identify if they do research or not...or what fees they may require.
