I knew several of the Wood family, including Ira (a farmer who lived east of Dilley), Ila (a Wood by marriage who owned and operated a dry goods store in downtown Dilley), Ila's son Chester, wife Suzie Mae and sons C.B. and Bryan. They're all deceased, although C.B. has two sons--in San Antonio perhaps.
Claude Wood was a barber and cut my hair as a child. He died in relatively recent years. I knew U.A. Bryan in the Dilley Post Office with Ralph Crawford and Mr. Grocie, but I'm thinking the U.A. I knew was born considerably after 1883. My mother's 91 and remembers some things. I'll ask her when U.A. went to work for the Post Office. (Don't hold your breath--but I'll certainly give it a shot and get back in this board if she remembers anything worth relating.)
I also remember Pete Wood, a brother-in-law to Ila. (I'm sorry--can't remember her husband's name at the moment.) Pete lived in Dilley for a few years but moved elsewhere in the 1940s, I'd guess.
