Genio Burns and John Thomas Wilson were my grand-parents. Genio was not born in Greer County but was married, lived in a dug-out and had a family of eight children there. Greer Co was thought to be Texas at that time but was actually Indian Territory. After the Oklahoma Land Rush J.T. sold out and moved to Donley County. Let me know an e-mail address where I can correspond vernong1@verizon.net Vernon Goldston Georgetown TX.

Hey Debbie! This is Darline. Don't know if you have this info yet or not. I found out that MC Reeves was Martha "Mattie" Cora Reeves. She was grandpa Wallace's 1/2 sister and RL Reeves was his 1/2 brother from Mary Jane's marriage to Humphrey L Reeves. Mattie married Con (Conrad Scrimsher). I haven't located anything on RL Reeves.

Sophronia Angelina Chaudoin married James Newton Henderson January 22, 1871 in Lavaca County, TX. I show that all their children were born in TX and the youngest one was born in 1892. They showed up on the 1910 Census in OK, so sometimes between 1892 and 1910 they moved from TX. They had six children and both Angelina and James are buried in Altus, OK. Also, Sophronia is listed in some placed as Serona A Reeves, S.A. Henderson, Sophrena Chaudoin, and Angelina Chadoin.

I haven't found out any other info on grandma Mary Jane or grandma Biddy. It looks like Biddy may not have been Mary Jane's mother but may have taken her in. On just about every census beginning in 1840 Wallace and Biddy have lived next to a Scrimsher or a Scrimsher male has lived in the household with them, or Mary Jane, or Angelina. That may explain why we can't locate anything on Mary Jane or Biddy prior to 1839. It's also odd that Biddy and Wallace never had any other children.

Something to think about!

I know very little about him. Found him in the 1900 census in oklahoma it says he was born in Texas and his parents in Tennessee, Kentucky.I found his obit in the hugo ,Okla. paper said he left a widow and 4 sons. My Dad said he would not tell then where he came from. There was a story about him and his wife changing thier names because families didn't approve of them being together or something along those lines. Would love to know more about him from what others in my family remember hearing about him he was always looking over his shoulder so to speak. Thank -you . Any info would be so appreciated.

Thanks Anna,

Yes, this did help. I had seen one site which had a different person listed as her father and that one didn't seem right. After getting your reply, I found the family of G.W. McGlasson on the 1880 Census for Precinct 3, Montague Co., TX

G.W. McGlasson, 38, b. IL
Lucinda, sife, 32, b. MO
George 14, b. IL
Viola, 11, b. IL
Newton, 8, b. IL
Zobedia, 5, b. IL
Avery, 3, b. IL

I'm hoping to be able to tie G.W. into the rest of my McGlasson info, and am guessing that his first name may have been George.

Thanks again,
Chris

Don't know if this might be part of the family you are searching for but thought I would give you the information since she did come from Arkansas. My GGGrandmother was a Horn from Searcy, Arkansas. Her name was Sarah Ann Horn, who her family called Sallie. She was born 8 Mar 1854 and died 2 Feb 1927 and is buried in the Blair OK Cemetery in one of her daughter's Martha Griffin Savage, family plot. She married Eli Marion Griffin in Searcy Arkansas in 1972. He died in 1913 in Searcy Arkansas and is buried there. After his death she went back and forth between children in Mangum and Blair OK and Searcy Arkansas. Her parents were James Harmon Horn and Susan Murphy. She and Eli had 10 children, my GGrandmother being one of the daughters. Dawn Hayes

Elijah was a CA veteran, who lived in Greer Coumty, TX. His CA pension application says that he always lived in Texas. He owned a farm on the 1900 Beckham County, OK census. Ruth had already died and is buried in or near Beckham County, north of Sayre, which in 1900 may have been in Roger Mills County. These are my Great grandparents. I am trying to find Ruth A Smith Wilson's parents. Maybe her death certificate tells where she was born. Her daughter, Maggie died the same year and they are buried next to each other.
I believe they must have been in this area from the mid 1870's
He was wounded and did not have any use of his right arm. In the 1860 Lavaca County, TX, he is listed with Ruth and no children. His occupation is a tanner at that time.

In 1901, the Greer County probate and district court clerk offices of Mangum, Oklahoma, were housed in a building with business offices, separate from a small courthouse. On a cold frosty night this building caught fire and Greer County, Oklahoma Territory lost probate and marriage records since 1886, irreplaceable records. The County School Superintendent lost school records and County District Attorney lost records.

That is what was posted on the Website. This covered all of the Greer County TX marriages, which later became the new Greer, Jackson, Harmon and part of Beckham Counties in Oklahoma. I have families that were in that area also - so a few missing marriages in my genealogy. But at least I know where they married.

If it was 1892, they were married in Greer County - Jackson was created from Greer in 1907. Hope that helps.

Greer County, Texas, is not in the 1870 census.

Check the history here
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/%7Eswokla/greer/gree...

Although Greer County was named in 1860s, it was not organized until 1886.

"On February 8, 1860, Governor Sam Houston approved an act of the Texas legislature creating the County of Greer from the area of Young County, Texas and named for John Alexander Greer, a veteran of the Texas war for independence from Mexico. Civil War intervened for a while. Under Texas jurisdiction the county was attached successively to different organized counties until Greer was organized with a full slate of officers July 10, 1886."

"At that time all who lived in what is now Greer County, Oklahoma went to Wheeler County, Texas for court. Greer was formed and named by Texas legislature in 1860, unorganized up to 1886, attached to Wheeler County for judicial business since 1881."

Wheeler County was formed in 1876 from Bexar and Young counties.

Look at Young county in 1870 census for the cowboys that ranched in what BECAME Greer County.
