Who lived on Date Street, Plainview, Texas?

I have a picture in a photo album passed down to me. 3 women on the front. On the back is written 302 Date Street, Plainview, Texas. Looks to be taken in the late 1920's. Hoping if I can find out who they are, I can get some leads on my elusive maternal g-grandfather and his family.

I believe his brother Bruce was an acct. in Lubbock. I hope this helps. Ashley is a very fine man.

I'm looking for a book from which I have copies of single pages. I believe it's one of two 'Hale County Facts and Folklore'.

Page 22 lists Annie Lee (Seal) Bledsoe.
Page 45 lists Andrew Jackson Chambers and his wife. It tells the story of how he and one of his daughters died enroute to Carlsbad Canyon.

Anyone who can confirm the exact book title, and where I might be able to purchase a copy please let me know. This would be my wife's line.

Thanks!
Scott
JT's children are still living and I will contact them as well. My email is mustangmark65@hotmail.com. Thanks

Like I said I don't know about Martha's death ( where or when)but I do know a little about her life, her first husband died after they had three childred together(Uncle Wiley lived from that marriage) and she met and married Frank Meriwether with whom she had another three children, only my grandmother Ruth Meriwether lived of that marriage. After Frank died returning from the Spainish-American War, she moved with Uncle Wiley and Ruth to Starvilla(later day Porum, I.T.) and was living there when the 1900 census was taken. I had always understood that Mable Fortenberry was Oliver's child from hios first marriage and not really any blood kin to my grandmother Ruth, but they were close and always kept in contact and like I said we visited them when I was a teenager in California and they came to see us when I was about six years old in Oklahoma. I'm sorry but their daughter's name slips my mind, but she was a very pretty and sweet girl.

I am trying to find the real mothers name of my grandmother Nancy Elizabeth Hale, born Oct. 13 1888 in Kansas. Thomas E. Hale was born 11 Jun 1868 in Mo. and died 3 Dec 1940 in Wise Co. Texas. It claims on the Hale ancestry list of others as this womens name was Kincaid? She was born in Mo. but died in Kansas and married to Thomas E. Hale in 1887, which makes since as my grandmother was born in 1888. My grandmother Nancy said she was 4 yrs old when her mom died in Kansas. Does anyone have a name and or place of birth/death for this Kincaid women or any other info? Thanks, Mark Lambert (mustangmark65@hotmail.com)

I think it's more than happenstance that a KY-male would travel to IL, then OK, and, finally, Hale County, TX to find a bride!(lol) Zaida Milner's roots are in Breckinridge, KY. That's not close to Clay County still I wonder if they were acquainted prior to arrival in Texas? Zaida's father was Hartwell Artemus Milner born ca 1858 in case you want to research.

Thank you for the reply! I have no idea why they went on to NM. His (William) parents & a sister went to Canada, others to the midwest, so I have no idea. I just have the transcribed census not the original, you have better info than I did on them.

Looking for any info on William H. Anderson who was born in Kentucky in Oct 1888,parents Jacob & Julia. He moved to Il with his family in 1900. He was in the Livingston, Il 1910 Census with his parents & sisters, then also the Jackson, OK 1910 Census along with his sister Alice & her future husband Jack Bullis. I found his WW1 Draft Registation for 1917(hard to read) in Plainsview, Hale Co., Tx, it lists a wife & 2 children. I believe he & his family are also in the Hale Co. 1920 Census. After that I lost them. He is my great-uncle.

I am the wife of WDougherty... my grandmother told us all our lives that Jimmy was her sister's son's son. Confused?
My grandmother, Mamie Florence Reid's sister was the grandmother of Jimmy. She told us that Jimmys father ran off after Jimmy was born and because of that, they would not talk to my grandmother or any part of his family.
I also have a picture of my grandmother that I swear is the spitting image of Jimmy.
I don't know if any of this is true or not.
Hi: You will have to remind me what we discussed. I have talked to so many people. I don't think this is my Henry Homer Smith since he was not a doctor; unless of course, I am misunderstaning you HL2604.

I lately have been researching an 1880 census of Monroe County MS that has listed George and Adelaid Smith with sons Henry, Sydney, and Wren. Sydeny lists William Tate as nearest realtive on WW1 Draft Card. There is a marriage license of George W. Smith m. to Adelaid Ray. William Tate marriage license says he married Nancy Ray. I think these two must have been sisters since Sydney lists William Tate as a relative. I followed Sydney to Greenfield, Arkansas in 1930.

Thank you for all your assistance.

Hi: I do not think this is my Henry Homer Smith's family as Guthrie Smith, newspaper man in Arizona, said his brother's whereabouts was unkown but that he was Dr. Henry H. or Harry H. Smith.

I appreciate your assistance very much.

To answer your question I have put my Henry Homer on many sites with all his information but I will put it forth once again for your info. I do apologize that you couldn't find all his information.

Henry Homer Smith b. September? 10? 1871? in MS?
Married Willie Hester Lock(e) January 10, 1905 in Corsicana, Navarro County, Texas.
Had four children:
Wister Allen Smith b. 1905 Chatfield, Navarro County, Texas
Ethel Mae Smith(my mother) b. 1910 Corsicana, Navarro County, Texas
Henry Homer Smith b.1913 Corsicana, Navarro County, Texas
Wilson Bankston Smith b.1918 Sweeny, Brazoria County, Texas

Henry Homer Smith d.?Feb. 11? or March 11? 1920? Bell County, Texas?

He was suppose to have died of Tuberculosis.
In 1922 the youngest three children were placed in the Coriscana Orphange and this is the info on the application, although I am concerned that the person giving the info may not have been in a stable state of mind.

Also just found this on familytreemaker.com
http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/p/a/c/Martha-mart...

John Ince (son of Robert Ince and McCammett) was born Abt. 1774 in Ireland, and died January 5, 1834 in Columbia Township, Lawrence County, Arkansas. He married (1) Agnes Campbell on April 24, 1800 in Mecklenburgh, Craven County, North Carolina. He married (2) Elizabeth (Betsy) Clark on January 6, 1812 in Cabarrus County, North Carolina, daughter of John Clark.

Includes NotesNotes for John Ince:
John Ince came to America at the age of 16 in approximately 1790. He appeared singlely Craven County, North Carolina.

He came on a boat in the later part of 1790. The boat captain was his mother's brother, Uncle McCammett. He landed somewhere in Virginia. The boat came from England.

Some of the places he has lived were Ireland, Noth Carolina, Virginia, Overton County, Tennessee, Missouri, and Arkansas.

He married (1) Agnes Campbell on April 24, 1800 in Mecklenberg County North Carolina. He married (2) Elizabeth (Betsy) Clark January 06, 1812 in Cabarras County, North Carolina.

He was in the 'War of 1812" in the Militia.

According to stories of our ancestors, he came to America with his sea captain Uncle McCammet and escaped while the ship was being unloaded. Another story says that he and a buddy were looking around and missed the boat and cried for days, but when they could return they chose not to. It is not known where they landed, but John Ince is on the 1790 census in Mecklenburg, North Carolina. There is record of other Inces in America long before he came.

There is a record of his marriage to Agnes Campbell.

Excerpt from North Carolina Militia Company Muster Roll, War of 1812 says, "Served as a private in Captain John Garretson's Company of Infantry, 7th Regiment, North Carolina Detached Militia from February 1, to July 31, 1814. Muster Roll shows that he was sick at Fort Laurens from March 28, to May 11, 1814 when his unit was in camp near Fort Jackson. He was present miles from where he lived. He "drawed one pair of shoes" here. When he was discharged he was paid $8.00 per month for six months and allowed 8 days travel time to return home. He served where the present town of Milledgeville, Georgia stands now. He was also allowed 96 cents for subsistence and $2.13 pay while traveling. He had 98 cents deducted for one pair of shoes from his $51.09 aggregate pay due.

He was on the 1790 Craven County, North Carolina census as single person, over 16 years of age, living alone. He was granted 50 acres of land in Overton County, Tennessee on November 10, 1825. That is the same year that William married Sarah Stockton, in Overton County.

In 1833, Lawrence County, Arkansas, he was on the tax rolls with William McCammett, in next County until at least 1837 and in Wright County Missouri by 1841. There until at least 1851. Some of the children were in Green County, Missouri in the early 1880's.
[annn@texhoma.net]
*****
He and a friend, both sixteen, had decided to work their way to the United States and back on a boat that sailed from England. The Captain was John's uncle, his mother's brother, named McCammett. Both boys were sightseeing the day they were to sail home from Virginia, and arrrived late at the dock. When they saw the boat sailing away, they sat down on the docks and cried, as they knew it would be five months before it returned. Both had to seek work and John found a place to live in the home of an old couple. He did the chores for his room and board. When the boat returned he decided against going home because he liked America so much.

He obviously enjoyed traveling, as he moved from Ireland to Virginia to North Carolina, where he married, then to Georgia, Tennessee and finally Arkansas, where he died.

The name Ince appears in only two counties in the "Index of Surnames of Householders in Griffith's Primary Valuation and Tithe Applotment Books," the former compiled between 1848 and 1864 and the latter dating from the late 1820s to the early 1830s: seven times in Queens and once in neighboring Kilkenny. In the Tithe Applotment Books covering all of Ireland, only three Ince's were listed in Queens County: Richard, in Maryborough, William in the Parish of Clonenagh and Clonekeen, and Robert in the Parish of Moyanna. All three parishes are in the Diocese of Leighlin, Queens County.

The origin of the name Ince is French. It is believed the family left their homeland with many other French protestants in the late 1600s or earlier. Some settled in Cheshire and one group particpated in the Elizabethan or Stuart "plantations" of central Ireland.

John Ince married (1) Agnes Campbell 24 Apr 1800 in Mecklenberg Co, NC, and
(2) Elizabeth "Betsy" Clark 6 Jan 1812 in Cabarrus, NC. Agnes was born 1779, Mecklenberg, NC, died bef 1812. Betsy was born 6 Jan 1812, Cabarrus Co, NC, died 1887, Pike Co, MO.
Children with Agnes Campbell:
i.

I am researching James H. Lewis for Plainview, Hale County Texas. His living there according to the 1930 census. His wife is Meline and children. There is a 70 year old lady living with them whose name is Freddie Smith. She was born in Alabama and lived in MS with James' parents until 1930 where I find with James' family. Her father was Henry H. Smith and Mattie G. Smith of Alabama. Her father was a preacher. Her brothers were Henry H. Smith and Guthrie Smith. Guthrie is living in New Mexico in 1930 as a newspaper editor and went on to hold an office for the state of New Mexico. I beleive this may be my family as my grandfather was Henry Homer Smith who died in Texas in 1920 of T. B. Any info on Freddie and what can be found out about her family will be greatly appreciated.

Michael, I just found your inquiry. You did really good, with so many Hales out in this world. 9 out of 10 Family trees had Jonathan Hale born 1790 as Isaiah Hale's father, and Isaiah was born 1797. If you look at the dates, Jonathan was 7 years old when Isaiah was born. Some went to Thomas Hale, son of Jonathan born 1720 to 1776. The facts again, Thomas lived until 1838. The fact--Isaiah Hale's mother Sarah was a widow with two Hale children when she Married Cornelius Westfall Jan 12,1804 Now some one has found a George Hale born 1759 to 1803.also a son of Jonathan, and a brother of Thomas. There are still one little flaw, he is married to a Hannah something and has a daughter named Sophie. Everybody is trying to pull a name out of the HAT and saying this is Isaiah's Father and don't pay any attention to the facts. Annie Webb Ridgway

Hello,

My name is Michael R Hale (born 1984) and I am trying to find more out about my family line. Anything anybody knows or can point me towards would be a huge help!

I have:

(1) Myself

(2) Thomas Henry Hale, jr 1952 [my father]
Franklin Allen Hale 1948 [my uncle]
Geneveve Hale 1950 [my aunt]

(3)Thomas Henry Hale (1923) Served in WW2, did time in India

(4) Allen Franklin Hale (1893) He wed Maybell

(5) Tom Hale (1868) who was born in or lived in Missouri. He married Viola Hale

(6) John S Hale (1828) *** Does the S stand for Slinkard?*** who wed Elizabeth Hale

(7) Isaiah C Hale (1798) from N. Carolina who wed (Ann/e/a?) Catherine Slinkard

Some trees say Jonathan R Hale 1790 is Isaiah C's father, in which case the line goes back very far. Problem is I am not positive and I would like to ask others on what I have tracked down!

Dan (or anyone else), I have documentation on the Guillermo Arguijo (Atascosa County, Tx) family to share. You are the first to mention his father's name as Vivian. Who was your source? I have mapped out the family members, but the missing data to date is factual/confirmed names of his parents and who was his first wife. Working on a lead who she was. Yes, I know who Theodora was. She was my
great-grand mother. Anyway, hope you are still online.

Regards,

Roger J. Arguijo
rarguijo47@att.net
