I am looking for any information on Ephraim L. SKILES, or E.L. SKILES who appears in the Harrison County Texas census of 1850 (Reel G27, page 45 & 143 dated October 5, 1850) with the following entry: E.L. Skiles, 45 male farmer, b. TN; M. SKILES, 45 f. b. TN; R. 21 m farmer, b. TN; D. 19 m, b. TN; A., 15 m, b. TN; M. 12, m, b. TN; V. 10 m, b.TN; C. 9 m, b. TN; H. 8 m, b. TN; M.A. 5, F, b. TN; T. 4 m. b. GA; G.W. 3m b GA; R.H. 2m, b. TX. Family tradition says that there was an older sister who married and settled in Texas before the rest of the family came to Texas. Her name was Delilah, born 1827 in TN, and married Wilson E. NELSON 8Feb1844. A younger brother David (D in the census) was born 8Sep1829 in TN, married Martha KENNEDY 30Jul1857 and died 21Jan1910 in Smith Co., TX. F.M. (M in the census possibly Marion) born around 1836 in TN, and married 19Nov1862 Sarah KENNEDY. Charley, born around 1839 in Tennessee, who we believe served in Company H., 7th Reg, TX Infantry, POW Camp Douglas, ILL. Sam Houston SKILES, born around 1840 in either TN or GA. Mary A. born around 1843 in TN or GA. Thomas M, born Feb1848 in GA and perhaps the same as the T.M. Skiles who was in C and F company, 28th Reg't TX Cav, enlisting in Henderson Co., TX, d. 8Mar1901. George Washington SKILES, born 21June1849 we believe in GA or TX, who married Mary Jane SMITH on 12Oct1875 and who is my great grandfather. And R.H. SKILES (who we know nothing at all about. Family tradition says that most of the brothers served in the Civil War and that one went to Mexico after the war and settled there on a ranch. Family tradition says that one of the brothers names was Riley.
