Thank you, but I did not request a "search." The posting was in the hopes some Harrison County readers might have knowledge of the family.

The census certainly suggests that the Harriet who was the daughter of Dr. Howell could have been the Hattie who married Samuel Alonzo Cook/e. However, the census provides no evidence to prove that assumption.

Ms. Coburn's tree contains only 3 of the 12 children of Howell Lewis, and does not include daughter Harriet/Hattie or any reference to Samuel Alonzo Cook/e.

Thank you for your effort.

Looking for information on G(eorge?) W. Martin who is in the Harrison County U.S. Censuses of 1850 and 1860 and apparently in the Tax List of 1846. He was born abt. 1822 in Alabama. From the 1850 census one can deduce that his mother was Sarah, b. abt. 1787 in SC and his brother was Joseph, b. abt. 1824 in AL. I speculate that his brother got married between 1850 and 1860 and moved to Hopkins County, TX but have no proof. G. W. had a daughter Martha Ann Martin, b. abt. 1843 in TX. G. W. Martin's wife was dead before 1850 and he remaried to the daughter of Aaron E. Ferguson of Logansport, LA. The Ferguson family is my tie in. Any information on the Martins would be appreciated. Glad to share. You can contact me directly at Leightontu at verizon dot net.

Leighton Turner

She came to Texas before 1850 with her family from Hamilton County, Tennessee. Thanks.

Junior Metcalf
I'm trying to find relatives of my deceased father. He was married for a time to Jessie Mae Murrell of Haughton, LA, and they lived in Baton Rouge, LA from at least before 1959 until 1961 or 1962. They divorced during that time I believe after moved to Shreveport, LA. I met him once for about 20 minutes a few years before he died in the early 70's in Shreveport, but I really know nothing about him. I was told that his family was from the Marshall, TX area, but I cannot confirm this.

This will be difficult!!! If your mother was born about 1917, then let's assume your father was close in age? If so, he possibly was inducted/volunteered during World War II? Do you possess any military records that could provide additional clues? You mentioned meeting him in 1970s Shreveport prior to his death. Do you know his exact date and place of death? If so, he may be listed on the Social Security Death Index(SSDI). His original social security card application may reveal the names of his parents? Without more concise information, your search will be very difficult!

FIRST: Give yourself 10 lashes with a wet spaghetti noodle! Information provided was too brief for a valid search. SECOND: Her parents were Dr. Howell Lewis and Sarah (Beall) Lewis of Oglethorpe, GA. Find the Lewis family in 1850 GA-Harris-Hamilton-Page 15 and 1860 TX-Harrison-Beat 1-Page 4. Refer to "Coburn Family Tree" owned by CherylCoburn. It has beeen thoroughly researched. Notice that some of Sam and Harriet ("Hattie")'s children shared names with her siblings, e.g., Howell and Eberle?

Piece of cake! Maybe I should say "teacake"? Hook a brother up? Daisy L. Porter was the daughter of Frank Porter and Francis ("Fannie") Buchanan. She was born approximately Dec 1881 in Mississippi, possibly Chickasaw County. Her parents wed 23 Jan 1878 in Chickasaw County per records at the Family History Library. The Porter family arrived in Texas 1882-1886. Find them in 1880 Chickasaw County, MS-Houston-District 26-Image 24. They were; Frank Porter(22), Francis(20), Mary(1), and Tom(1/12). In 1900 Harrison County, TX-Precinct 2-District 41-Image 21, they were: Frank Porter(43), Fannie(39), Mary B.(21), Tom(20), Daisy L.(18), Willie(13), Frank(13), and Martha(11). Both parents must have died prior to 1910 census? Also, unable to find info on sisters Mary and Martha after 1900. Find Tom Porter(29) and wife Adlie(23) in 1910 Harrison-Leigh-District 36-Image 12. Twin brothers Wister (Willie)(21) and Frank(21) Porter were also in Leigh, but District 35-Image 4. In 1920 Harrison-Precinct 2-District 49-Image 15, Tom Corter (Porter)(40), Attie[sp] Lee(38), Ciasce (Pernice)(8), and Precious(4 10/12). Frank Porter(33) had wed Rossa (Rosie) L.(24) and can be found in Precinct 7-District 69-Image 15. Don't know where Willie was hiding? He, Willie, did not register for the WWI Draft either. His brothers, Tom and Frank registered. In 1930 Harrison-Precinct 2-District 4-Image 24, Tom Parton (Porter)(48), Addie L.(42), Pernise(18), and Pressius (Precious)(15). In Precinct 7-District 27-Image 12, find Frank Porter(45) and Rosie L.(34). In Precinct 7-District 27-Image 8, Willie Porter(45) and Hattie(47). Online death certificates: Frank Porter (1 May 1893? -14 May 1947), Will Porter (20 Oct 1890? - 23 May 1956), and Tom Porter (17 May 1882? -22 Jan 1948). Tom and Frank are buried in Leigh while Will is interred in Antioch. If you are seeking living relatives, Precious and Pernice Porter descendants are your best hope. Precious married Hersey Lindsey and Pernice hooked-up with Louis Moses. Both couples have births listed on the database. Precious Lindsey (23 Feb 1916 - 27 Apr 1956).

Are you encountering difficulty finding his census records? In 1880 Harrison-Precinct 1-District 53-Image 12, Squire Evans(35) and wife Mindy(36) were heads-of-household. Their children were: Margrett[sp](15), July(13), James(8), Joseph(6), Walter(4), Charles(3), and Ella(1). Only framents remain from a fire that "wiped-out" the 1890 census. In 1900 Harrison-Precinct 2-District 40-Image 39, Squire Evans listed as widowed and head-of-household? He may have been twice widowed because there is a record of him marrying Mary Waterman 17 Dec 1892? Might be another person? In any case, the children still under his roof were: Walter(23), Charley(20), and Al [Allen](16). Research is challenged in 1910 'cause the surname was incorrectly spelled Evens. Find Walter(34), Liza(24), and Cirtus[Curtis](5) in Harrison-Precinct 8-District 59-Images 11 & 12. If Evens wasn't bad enough, the 1920 surname was corrupted to Ivens. In Harrison-Precinct 8-District 70-Image 3, Walter(46), Daina[sp](35), Curtis(17), Myrtle(15), Emett[sp](10), Robbie(9), Bennie(7), Neade[sp](5), and Willie(2 6/12). Sanity was regained in 1930 Harrison-Precinct 8-District 30-Image 15. Walter Evans(52) and widowed was head-of-household. Children were: Curtis(25), Robbie(19) Myrtle (15?), Mead(13), Walter(9), and Mable(7). I am not related, just relaying information found on census reports! If you are seeking living relatives, research Walter's youngest brother Allen? He and Walter's death certificates are viewable/printable online. http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#start Allen Evans' (1Feb 1892? - 8 Jul 1962) certificate informant was his son Ennis. Father identified as Square[?] Evans and mother simply as Susie. Allen was at least 20 years older than the certificate birthdate. Ennis Evans died 15 Aug 1993 in Harrison County. Younger brother Allen Jr. died 27 May 1975 in Texas City, TX. Their mom, Florida P. (Powell) Evans also died in Texas City 8 Apr 1965. Ennis Evans Jr. is listed on the birth index as father of several children in Harrison County. Perhaps a telephone call will connect you with descendants having an oral family history? Best wishes!
