I know after BF Myrick died Martha m. A.A. Ragan, but havent looked for them on 1870 Van Zandt census. My gr grandmother was b. in VanZant Co. so will need to look there, I had thought they moved to Titus Co. where I found them on the 1880, no Myrick children still at home apparently went to VZ first,

Yes, I saw that. Barlow and Peggy were both 45 years old. Their son. Sam was 17. With no children under the age of 17 in 1880, that's why I doubt that Barlow and Peggy ever had any more children together.

Good luck in your continued search. Maybe Harrison County Clerk's office will find marriage record for Barlow and Bettie, a birth certificate for Jesse, or possibly a death certificate for Barlow or Bettie. The odds are not good though, because it's so far back (probably in 1880s).

Ken

Thank you so much Ken for the search, and I did see all of the information that you provided for me. It just makes a lot more sense the way that you explained it. Maybe these things did take place, and I never bought about it. When you can find a person in only one record it gets tough and put you at a brick wall. I will call Harrison County like you mentioned to see if they have info on Jesse or Barlow Jacobs. If not then that will still be a brick wall for me.

Kelly
I'm not related but I tried to research a little. The 1900 Harrison Co. TX census to which you refer has Jesse Jacobs listed as "adopted son" of Feb Jackson.

1900 Harrison Co. TX census:
Head Feb Jackson F 54 Texas MS MS
Son James Jackson M 25 Texas TX TX
Son Henry Jackson M 22 Texas TX TX
Adopted son Jesse Jacobs M 17 Texas TX TX (born May 1883)
Granddaughter Feb Hamilton F 16 Texas TX TX

My guess is that the parents of Jesse Jacobs (Barlow and Bettie) both died between 1883 and 1900 when Jesse was just a child.

Since the 1890 census records were destroyed by fire, you will not be able to see Jesse in a census with his birth parents.

I know the 1900 census says Jesse was born in May 1883 and his death certificate says he was born May 1888. My guess is the 1883 date is more likely to be accurate.

Hard to say about the Peggy Jacobs (wife of Barlow) in 1880 census. Peggy is a nickname for Margaret. According to the census, she was already 45 in 1880. There are no young chi8ldren in the household. The last child in 1880 is already 17 years old. Since Jesse was not born until 1883-1888, she was not likely his mother. She may have died shortly after 1880 and Barlow later married Bettie, and then Jesse was born to Barlow and Bettie.

According to his death certificate, Jesse was buried in Strickland Springs Cemetery in Harrison Co. TX. Unfortunately, that cemetery has not be cared for in many years. It was once a large cemetery. Part of it was destroyed when a pond was built. None of the markers are visible today.

According to the 1880 census, Barlow Jacobs was born in Georgia about 1835.

The only suggestion I have is you may try to contact the Harrison Co. TX County clerk to see if they have any info on Barlow or Jesse Jacobs.

Vital Records - Harrison Co. TX: 903-935-8403

http://www.archives.com/genealogy/vital-records-harrison-cou...

Ken

Designation "Number exists***, **Death F" in Texas Birth Index

Many people have been confused by the designation "Number exists***, **Death F" in the Father's Name Field in the Texas Birth Index.

I emailed the Texas Department of State Health Services and according to them:

This designation is actually **DEATH FILE NUMBER EXISTS***, and it means that the baby was deceased. At the time that the birth certificate was data entered, the only way to make the notation in the electronic record that the baby was deceased was to enter this in the father’s name fields. The actual birth certificate will show the name of the father if that information was available, and the birth certificate will be stamped "DECEASED."

This format is outdated, however, and no longer used.

Note: Several people have pointed out to me that Texas has made mistakes with this designation, so use good judgment and further research when you see this designation in the Index.

Online death certificate: Millie Perkins (2 Jan 1902 - 23 Feb 1968) parents identified as "Samson" Everett and Jennie Anderson per Lela Mae Davis. The informant was not well informed! Nearby is her SSDI: 7 Jan 1886 - 15 Feb 1968. Betting that this was the same person. If you are familiar with East Texas geography, Harrison County abuts the western border of Louisiana. Harrison borders Panola County heading south. Panola County is where you'll find Sampson Everett in 1870/1880. No info on Jennie/Jenny Anderson. Often, enumerators used Jennie in lieu of Virginia so you might give that a try?

The deceased was about 67 yeaars of age, and the mother of P.B.
Start by sharing "everything" you know related to the subject! You didn't "pluck" that name out of thin air! Probably searching in response to request from relative(s)? Who would that be? "Sister" usually a nickname applied to favorite female child. What's her given name? The other application for "Sister" refers to a nun. 1930 Harris-Houston-District 123-Image 36 find her as a member of Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word. She immigrated from Ireland in 1929.

Are you sure that he died in 1922? I have a man in my genealogy, son of John Milton Moore and Sarah Mahulda Bowles. Guy Ellis Moore is his name born 10 Dec 1896 in Hallsville, Texas and died 17 Mar 1965 in Port Arthur, Texas. He is buried at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Jefferson County, Texas.

He was married to Clara Lucille Oney and then to Juanita Hill. My email is Dawn14320@yahoo.com if there is any way I can help!

You are correct that you've seen the B.D. initials before. They are listed on William Thomas' death certificate. However, I have an original copy of William Thomas' baptism and it is very clear that the father is Rufus Benjamin.

You have the names of Ada's children correct. Walter's birth date is 24 Jun 1897.

I have found that a B.D. Gullette is apparantly buried in Hillcrest cemetery in Van Zandt county. So I've still got some work to do on this. Kinds stinks that the 1890 census is gone. Sure would help.

James B. Gullette married sisters might be true? B. D. Gullette listed as marrying Nellie isn't the only place I've observed those initials. Believe those B. D. initials also listed as the father on at least one death certificate? Confirm Ada's kids: Frank Edwin (13 Aug 1894 - 13 Jun 1975), William Thomas (16 Dec 1892 - 24 Apr 1927) and Walter Vernon (d: 13 Oct 1991)?

I don't know how I've missed Henry Evans in the Oakland Memorial Park cemetery. I have so many relatives there it isn't funny.

There's an interesting story developing about James B. Gullett. I believe that he was married to both Nellie and Ada and father children with both of them. I'm related to Ada.

Nellie is buried in Oakland Memorial Park as well. I have also run into a brick wall on Jacob. I have seen a photo of a funeral notice that indicates he died in 1893 but I'm not sure where.

Cyrus Augustine Evans (23 Mar 1883) registered for WWI Draft in Canadian, OK. He also witnessed Charley T. Evans' death certificate. Cyrus died 3 May 1961 in Canadian, OK. Their sister Nellie wed B. D. Gullett, 27 Jun 1889, in Harrison County, TX. The groom was actually James B. Gullette born ca. 1862 in Louisiana. Suspect he may have been related to Ada/Ida's husband? James' father was Rufus Y. Gullette of Mississippi. Certain you'll have knowledge of that possibility? Nellie found 1900 Van Zandt-Canton, 1910 Kaufman-Terrell Ward 3, and 1920 OK-Canadian. Unable to locate death info. No info found for Jacob Evans after 1880 Harrison County.

Dolores/Delores will be more challenging 'cause both parents born in Louisiana. There are not as many online records for Louisiana compared to Texas. Her parents were Henry Franklin Wilson (15 Dec 1893 - 10 Jan 1973) and Eva Grayson. WWI Draft Card in Natchitoches Parish indicates he was born there in the town of Campti.
