I was speaking with an older member of the family, who told me of a tail that four Cady brothers road into town and were confronted by a Union Army Officer and his black Sergent. When asked to surrender their guns, they refused and some gun play took place, one brother was killed and so to the Office and Sergent. The remaining three brothers were then hunted as outlaws.
The time frame was not given, but I have to guess it was in the 1870's. After the Civil War and probably during reconstruction. The Sergent being Black points to the 9th and 10th Calvary, or possibly a Black Infantry regiment, Joseph Daniel Cady;s family is the only one that had four cowboys of the right age and several of them died young.
