Seeking photos, stories, an obit, death certificate, burial info, etc, on Jennie aka Jimmie L Carithers James (1867-1906). She was born, married, lived, and died in Hill County, Texas. She married William Henry James in 1882 at age 15; had 8 children (Maud, Gaines Lee, Alva Maynor, William Forrest, Charles Ernest, Morgan Isaac, Clark Jackson, and JC) by age 39. She died the same day her youngest child, JC, was born: May 12, 1906. We believe her death is recorded under her husband's name WH James in Lovelace, Hill Co, which is abt 60 miles south of Dallas. She is my great grandmother. Records on her are very scarce. Her father was James Mulligan Carithers; we believe he served in the Confederacy during the Civil War and died 2 years after the war ended. His grandfather was William Carithers, a Revolutionary War patriot from South Carolina who was born in 1754 in Scotland or Pennsylvania. Fortunately there is a good record of William due to a Revolutionary War Pension Application filed by his widow, Mary McGowan Carithers….With regard to Jennie/Jimmie, the State of Texas has no record of her death and I cannot find her grave. Her mother was Emily R Jackson Carithers who remarried after her first husband died. She remarried John Hardin Pruitt, a man 13 years her junior. In the 1900 census, Emily is recorded as being divorced and living with her son, John Harden Pruitt, Jr. who would be from her second marriage. We do not know when or where John Pruitt Sr died . Emily was very pretty; the Museum of Floydada has a photo of John H Pruitt and wife; in fact they are both handsome; Emily died 11 Aug 1903 in Floydada, TX. Her grave photo is on FAG. Any info on any of the family would be greatly appreciated!,,,,. Although Jennie/Jemmie had a lot of children, only 3-4 of her children married and had children of their own. Also, the State of Texas has no death certificate for her mother, Emily Jackson Carithers Pruitt.. ...Sidenote; there are so many different ways to spell Carithers:Carrithers, Caruthers, Carruthers, Coruthers, Corruthers.
