William D. Edwards killed in train accident 27 Mar 1934

Seeking information concerning this accident and the deceased. I have William D. Edwards' death certificate, which says that he, single, age 28, was run over by a train 1 mile east of Fort Hancock on 27 Mar 1934. He's listed as a printer from Chicago, IL. What was he doing there? What railway line is there? Thinking there were newspaper notices about this mishap. Can anyone please provide pointers?
Peggy Hendricks
pphendricks@yahoo.com

I found my Grandfather! He was Baptized at San Eliceario Catholic Church. 7 Jul 1901. His God Parents were Geronimo Romero and Elizabeth Gabaldon. Parents were Cesareo Gabaldon and Josefa Sanchez Romero. This information was not on line but Josefa's death information was. This led me to a wonderful woman who was kind enough to go to the church and look up the record for me. I'm sure there is more family information there, but I am in Michigan and am waiting for it to maybe go on line. I have been trying and trying to find these family connections. Thank you for the tip; and PLEASE keep in touch. When your e-mail is working please contact me!
great to hear from you....Pam

I noticed your post and I would look for church records batisms and funeral/wake information first and perhaps start with the Socorro Mission 328 South Nevarez Road, El Paso, TX It is close to Fort Hancock. I looked for official records in Hudspeth County and couldn't find any birth records (they total 84 births and the first year is 1908. The Death records are a little better starting in 1917.

It sees terribly sad that the distinct groups of the Pocus family cannot connect. There is no doubt that John Pocus was naturalized in Mobile Alabama and he listed his entry as Sicily and he was a barber. He disappeared from the Mobile records c. 1870 but his presence is vindicated by census records that have been published. JOHN POCUS married Mary Dorrel in Franklin County Tennessee in 1871. OK - He married Maria Broyles in Mobile in 1856 and had children. The fact remains that John left before 1870. So, we have two families that seem not to agree. We need to open up the discussion to include my thesis - that John Pocus did indeed abandon his family in Mobile, Alabama.

Surely there is some way to rumount this problem.

Cubert Wood

Hello, from Seguin, TX. My husband and I purchased 80 acres of the Shamrock Ranch many years ago. We have been trying to find information on how much it cost to set up a place on our land but have not found many sources for on the subject. Like how much does getting water out there cost (i.e. do you have to dig a well or truck it in or is there a Cooperative in place.) How about electric service, is it by generator or can it be supplied by outside or solar and what is the cost? What are the best building options, stucco, mobile, and what is the cost?

The John Pocase who was naturalized in mobile 1854 is later found living alone in another AL county (Sorry - away from my notes). He later moved to Franklin Co., TN, where he married and can be found in 1880 census. He finally moved to Grundy County, TN and raised large family. After he moved away from Mobile, he lists his name as Pocus. Birthdate and place of birth match those of Pocase in Mobile.

my Grandfather and Granmother owned the garage in Mcnary in 1966. When i was learning to drive, my Grandmother told me of an accident that occured in 65 or 66 on the bridgeover the arroy about a mile east of Mcnary. From what i remember of the story, the car some how hit the bridge rail and went into the arroy, coming to rest between the road and the railroad. Both my GrandParents have past on so i dont have anyore details. I will ask my parents and relitives if they remember more of the story.

Fran, The information I sent you was from Judson & Jetty Hair. I believe their parents are burried in Belton TX. Judson and I visited the cemetary there on our way to Austin. I can ask Jetty if you need more info. Its amazing what you can find on a computer. Thanks again, Paul

Paul, My husband is the relative. Dave's father is his great-grandfather brother. Dave's younger brother, Harden R. Tate lived with his Uncle Austin (husband's gt-grandfather) and is in the household on a census. We have bee in contact with Harden's daughter, Lois. Also, one of Dave's sister, Hester's descendant. I've also found another sister of Dave's Grace H. Tate's was related to a former step-father of mine. His wife's sister was married to Grace's youngest child. It was a small twist of luck to find any one in connection to my husband's line of Tate.
Lois Tate, had mention her Uncle Dave and meeting him once, but knew little about him. Grace's granddaughter died last year. Grace had died young with four young children. The infant was raised by relatives, the older children were sent to a home.
Several descendants are connecting together for Dave's tree, but my husband line has been another story.
Fran, I live in Chaparral NM just up the road from Jetty Hair. He and Judson have told me alot about their Uncle Dave. I have been to his grave in El Paso. He was probably born in Sherman TX about 1880. He got into an argument about a horse with his father and went to Montana on a cattle drive. He was heard from only about twice in 35 yrs. He wound up in Sierra Blanca living in the back of a pool hall. He died in 1957 about 2 days after he was hit. The man who hit him was said to have been blinded by the sun. He is also dead. Judson is about 851/2 yrs old. He was born in Lingo NM near Clovis in a 2 story sod house. I think there is only 1 family left in Lingo. We all had greyhounds for years. I see Jetti all the time. They are good friends of mine for many years. I hope I have helped you. Are you a relative of Dave Tate? Sincerely, Paul Hughes, 612 Palma St Chaparral NM 88081

Paul, Thank you for the replied. The last time I heard Judson and his sister, Rowena was living in Arkansas. That was about three years back.. come to think on it, she died shortly afterwards.

I greatly appreciate anything you recalled in memory of these men.
