i am searching for information on my grandfathers mothers side of the family. my grandfather told me that the family was sent from spain to colonize Texasa and was given abt 35,000 acres. he said it was his great grandfather Hilario (ylario,Ilario,Elario??) Perez that was granted the land from Queen Isabel. they settled in south Texas on a ranch my grandfather calls Los Encinos. His aunt (greataunt) currently resides on what is left of the acreage (abt 3000. if anyone can help me or is of relation to this Perez famly please let me know thank you

I am trying to locate information on a John K. Gibble that came to Tx in 1926 and stayed for about 4 years, trying to make his fortune in the Oil/ Gas industry. It is written he purchased land in Jim Hogg Co and would like to determine if this is true. I have reason to believe his WIFE actually made the purchases, but did they lose the property or did they sell it.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Would you by any chance be a descendant relation of Martin Hogge. He supposedly was a Confederate Engineer on the General Staff of Gen. Robert E. Lee during the American Civil War and later migrated to Australia; where he was a Surveyor & mapper of St. Helena Island, Queensland, Australia in 1867. jamesmgray@bigpond.com

Otto Feenstra

In 1930 census Otto Feenstra was a dairy manager in Jim Hogg County. He was married to Hannah Hansen and they had two girls. In 1933 he was murdered in Caddo Parish, LA. I assume he was returned to Jim Hogg County for burial but as he had once worked in Brooks county, he might have moved back there prior to his murder. I am looking for his burial location.

The Texas Death Index shows a death for a Cornelia SMITH in Brooks County, Texas on 17 May 1973.

There is an obit for a Cornelia G. SMITH (you don't indicate a possible date range) so I took a guess and looked for an obit in the Corpus Christi Obituary Index.... Hebbronville is in Jim Hogg Co., but obits from Jim Hogg and other surrounding counties often appear in the Corpus Christi Caller .... I found reference to a funeral notice listed on 19 May 1973 ...

I believe that my great grandfather was Guadalupe Mendez. My grandfather was George Mendez and my father was Guadalupe Mendez. All were from Hebbronville Texas. My father lived in Alice Texas until he died in 1998. Guadalupe Mendez came to the US in about 1877 at the age of about 4 and became a citizen in the 1890's.

Cliff married Jennie Merchant of Abilene on 26 June 1889.
They had two boys: Howard Hudson Young July 1890 and John Merchant Young, 1892. They divorced. He was injured in 1899, leaving him with paralysis.
