I'm looking for information on brothers Joseph Littleton Ellis and Benjamin Franklin Ellis, who moved to Liberty Co. from Georgia about 1835. They are in the same household in the 1850 census, unmarried, next to brother-in-law Archibald Worsham and, possibly nephew Benjamin Clark and John Snell. They are believed to have been first cousins of Richard Ellis, resident of the constitutional convention. The Handbook of Texas describes Joseph L. Ellis as a "pioneer settler, was commissioned agent of the Alabama-Coushatta Indians by Sam Houston on August 1, 1844, and is known to have served in that capacity as late as 1860. It is believed that he came to Nacogdoches as early as 1835. He was a close friend of the Houston family." Is this the same Joseph Ellis? Does anyone know anything about these brothers - or other Ellis brothers who came later - being among the founders of a Concord Baptist Church? They were big Baptists in Georgia.
