WEATHERSBY, U. A. D., Beeville Weekly Picayune, Friday, 25 Jun 1897, pg 5:

Obituaries:
U. A. D. Weathersby, the subject of this brief notice, was born in the state of Mississippi in 1824, came to Texas when a boy, and witnessed the struggle for Texas independence, and was in her ranger service before her admission to the union; was a soldier in the Mexican war, and did valiant service for the lost cause during the late unpleasantness, which resulted so disastrously to our financial status, robbing us of our property, which in the case of Mr. Weathersby consisted of slaves, imposing upon us a change of operations
for which many were totally unqualified; reducing them to poverty from which many never recovered, of this class Mr. Weathersby was one. He quietly submitted to the changed condition, and cheerfully bore the hardships of life. He was of a confiding disposition, and was often the victim of misplaced confidence.

He was for many years a member of the Masonic fraternity, whose principles he practiced. He was also a member of the Baptist church. He breathed his last at Austin, July 5, and his remains were taken in charge by his Masonic friends and carried to Hutto (Williamson County) and buried beside his first wife and oldest son. He leaves a wife and several children and grand children and a host of friends to mourn his departure. The PICAYUNE extends to the bereaved its condolence in this sad affliction.
