Karylon;
Merkel Walters here..Moses Walters, son of Rob ert Walterx, Sr. was b. in Lunenburg Co VA and ended up going to Franklin Co GA then to Texas in 1835. His wife was Elizabeth Cauthon, and his son Tillman Walters b. in Franklin Co GA in 1790 was my direct line. Was wondering if you know where Moses was buried, or Elizabeth Cauthon? Smith Co seems to be correct. What year and cemetery? Thanks!! Merkel Walters mertiger2@Wcomcast.net

Last I saw of Thomas was the 1850 census of Hunt Co. TX living with a presumed daughter. He was shown as 54 yrs old and as a school teacher. Thomas and Mary Ann were estranged. Mary came to TX to receive her fathers land but she and Thomas never lived together. She had a brother in LA.

Mary Ann, his wife, was in the 1850, 60, and 70 census of Lamar Co. TX living close to a Ralph Davis. A John Taylor, age 23, b. Ohio, was living next to her in the 1850 census.

Thomas and his father in law, John McAnally, obtained land grants in Fannin Co. TX (I have map of their land). John died that year and Thomas was the executor of his estate. Lots of probate records are on file at the General Land Office in Austin TX.

If you know that THIS Thomas died in TN, then I REALLY WANT TO TALK TO YOU! I have always presumed that he died in TX between 1850 and 1860. There were a couple of other Thomas Taylor's in the area of Roane Co. TN that were about the same age. I remember this one was the only one that ever actually signed his name to legal documents and not his "X".

mikeinkaty@sbcglobal.net

I have visited Dan Blocker,s grave many times, and left him some flowers for his simple grave, in a small family plot. He is buried in Dekalb,Tx, at The Woodman Cemetery. His name was Bobby Dan Davis Blocker, and he was born 10 Dec. 1928, died 12 May, 1972, with a small family gathering. His parents were Ora Shack Blocker and Mary Davis. He married Dolphia Parker, and they had 2 sons, and 2 twin daughters. Dirk is an actor, and David is a producer, but he also is an actor too. You can view Dan,s movies at this website. He was a great actor, and a wonderful man.

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0088779/#actor1950

This is his daughter Debra Lee Blocker,s family tree.

http://bellsouthpwp.net/a/b/abigails_abbey/1033.htm

http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~txkusa/Cemeteries/woodmanp...

http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~txkusa/Cemeteries/woodmanp...

http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~txkusa/Cemeteries/woodmanp...

http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~txkusa/Cemeteries/woodmanp...

http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~txkusa/Cemeteries/woodmanp...

http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~txkusa/Cemeteries/woodmanp...
Dan Blocker,s sister

http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~txkusa/Cemeteries/woodmanp...

http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&d...

Hope you all enjoy remembering him.
Hi, Karylon R. April 21, 2009
Very interesting! My own fatherm Albert DeWitt (Dee) Walters worked for the WPA on the Buchannon Dam in 1937. They came over to Brunswick County, VA AMALL WORLD, HUH? Sincerely, MerkelWalters
a GGGGG GHrandson of Moses Walters & ERlizabeth (CAUTHON)WALTERS.

Same family--next generation. Moses Walters m. Mary Eveline Hill in Smith Co. TX was son of CHARLES MOTE WALTERS m. Mary Medford. I believe Charles was a son of the older Moses & Elizabeth.

Moses, the younger, & Mary Hill Walters did live in the Starrville area, where Mary Eveline's parents, David & Mary ARNOLD Hill also lived. Mary E.'s older sister, Rachel J. Hill m. Rice Wells, JR., whose father, Rice, Sr., was early community leader of Starrville.

Moses, the younger, and his young wife remained in Smith Co. through the 1870 Census there before joining her parents and other siblings along the Colorado River boundary of Llano-Burnet County Texas. Walters descendants still live in that area today.

I am NOT a Walters descendant, nor a Hill descendant, but Mary ARNOLD HILL, wife of David and mother of Mary E., was a sister to my Arnold ggggrandfather. However, I do have a LOT of the family genealogy in these lateral lines.

Hello Oneida,

I found Effie Dora Elloitt in the 1930 census record. It is Serries - T626 - TX Roll - 2371 - Pge 203. Lynn Co., TX 3 J-Pct (North Part)
She is living close to James Thrailkill # 152 and E. Crouch # 154.
The way the census looks she had a border living with her.

# 153 - Benjaman F Rickey - border ( he could be border for the Thrailkill family #152)- sometimes these things are hard to read.

# 153/153 - Elloitt, Effie D - head - Owned or Rent (Not for sure wich letter they used because it was hard to read) - 1200 real estate - female - white - 50 years old - wd - 23 years old when married - born in Texas - father and mother born in Missouri
Minnie W - daughter - female - white - 22 years old - single - Texas X 3
Alma L - daughter - female - white - 16 years old - single - Texas x 3

I hope this is what you needed. I use to live at Wilson, Lynn co., TX when I was young. I know where Grassland is.

Have a good day.

Kathie Nesbitt
I found a Felix and a Mabel Shaw dying in Jefferson during the "50's. Thank you. Happy New Year.
Martha Reitch

Look Up Please - May 1879 Land records Lubbock, Lynn, &/or Crosby Counties

Looking for confirmation that Cunningham Huston owned 1280 acres of land in Crosby, Lynn and/or Lubbock counties. This would have been purchased c. May 1879. A newspaper article appearing in the McArthur Enquirer on 4 June 1879 said he had made a trip to Texas and purchased land in the "corners" of the above mentioned counties. Can anyone having access to land records confirm this for me? Can you tell me any details? I would be happy to trade look ups for the central Ohio area. Thanks! - Kitty

Dan Blocker studied drama at Sul Ross College in Alpine, Texas. His drama coach there was a man named Powell (don't know his full name.) After Mr. Powell died, his wife Frieda taught drama at Odessa College in Odessa, Texas. Dan came to OC in 1965 (and brought Lorne Greene with him) as a favor to Ms. Powell; they both performed in "The Greatest Glory," an original musical by Frieda Powell and Paul Peck that commemorated the Civil War.

William Monroe Hicks, b Sept 4, 1866,in Waco, McLennen County, Texas d Nov 12, 1941 in Lynn County, Texas. I have his death certificate. He married Annie Jane Shinault, b Jan, 1871, in texas, d June 14, 1917 in Tarrant County, Texas. She is buried at Haskell Cemetery next to her sister, Matilda Pickering. Unsure why she was in Tarrant County when she died. Annie was blind due to diabetes. I believe Monroe lived with my great Aunt Pinky, either just before or when he died. Annie was the daughter of Andrew Jackson Shinault and Amanda T Campbell.Monroe and Annie had the following children, Pinky, Pearl, Monroe, who was murdered by his uncle, A J Jones while working in California, Charlie Roy, who was said to have killed A J Jones after he was released from Folsom Prison then killed himself. I have 3 newpaper articles on Monroe and Jones. Not sure how he was an uncle unless his wife, Rosa, was the Mary R hicks, listed in the Limestone County 1900 census, living with her brother,Robert and father, Robert Hicks. I also have a picture of both Monroe and Annie's graves. Annie's is only a sandstone slab as the writting has worn off. I have sent after Annie's death certificate and will be sending for Monroe's (son) in California, soon. Monroe remarried to Essie (McClammy?) Morgan in Stephens County, Texas. She had a child, Coy and she and Monroe had the foloowing children, Arnold H , Vivian Pauline and Dimple.Would love to exchange any information on these relatives.

Samuel's brother John had 3 boys that lived around the Merkel,Texas area and are buried in the Merkel cemetery along with John. I am trying to locate where Samuel is buried. I have a Civil War Pension Application filed by Samuel and a Doctor from Tahoka authenticated Samuels near blindness and updated in 1914 so Samuel was alive at that time making him about 76. He shows up on the 1900 Census living with John's son Joe K. Higgins who lived just north of Merkel, Texas. Samuel was married to Ida King as shown on the 1880 Bell County Census and I assume moved from there to the Tahoka area. Personal writings during 1927-1930 show Joe K. Higgins and some of his kids going to Tahoka to visit Tom Higgins who I believe was Samuels son. I wish to connect with Samuel/Thomas Higgins family.

Paul Higgins
817-267-1585
P.O. Box 164
Colleyville, Texas 76034

My great grandmother was Margaret Jane "Maggie" Barnett, her daughter, Jennie Agnes Crouch Nevill, was my grandmother.

I remember my father, Bartley Everton Nevill, having a cousin named Rob Barnett in Tahoka. If you are related to these folks, then we must be kin.

Please let me know. Maybe we can share info.

Sheryl (Nevill) New

The Lynn County history book "Grassroots Upside Down," by Frank P. Hill and Pat Hill Jacobs says the following about G. M. Clayton: 1905, came to Lynn County from Haskell. Died about 1917 and his wife, Darthula, about 1925. They had three sons, Perry, Sumner, and McMill at one time a county official who died Oct. 20, 1935; and three daughters, Mrs. A. H. Hussey, Mrs. Howard Henderson, and Miss Media Clayton. It also says that: "W. E. Henderson and wife, Fannie, became brief owners of the section in February, 1907 at a cost of $3,360 and in November came away with a profit when G. M. Clayton of Lynn County paid sixty-four hundred dollars, or ten dollars per acre."
I grew up in Tahoka and my family were early settlers. My father, Everton Nevill, who passed away 2 years ago at 93 used to speak of Sumner Clayton.

I believe they owned the Lynn County News. The present owners of the paper could verify this for you. I do not have their phone number, but it is owned by twin sisters: Vondell Elliott and Juanell Jones. The area code of (806). You could call (806) 555-1212 and get the number, I think.

I just looked the Cries up in a book about the history of Lynn County called "Grassroots Upside Down" by Frank P. Hill and Pat Hill Jacobs. Yes, they did own the Lynn County News.

You may also get info from the Lynn County Museum in Tahoka. You might want to call there too.

Good luck

Sheryl (Nevill) New

P.S. I grew up in Tahoka and my family member were some of the early settlers.
