Designation "Number exists***, **Death F" in Texas Birth Index

Many people have been confused by the designation "Number exists***, **Death F" in the Father's Name Field in the Texas Birth Index.

I emailed the Texas Department of State Health Services and according to them:

This designation is actually **DEATH FILE NUMBER EXISTS***, and it means that the baby was deceased. At the time that the birth certificate was data entered, the only way to make the notation in the electronic record that the baby was deceased was to enter this in the father’s name fields. The actual birth certificate will show the name of the father if that information was available, and the birth certificate will be stamped "DECEASED."

This format is outdated, however, and no longer used.

Note: Several people have pointed out to me that Texas has made mistakes with this designation, so use good judgment and further research when you see this designation in the Index.

Klein's Camp was next to what later became Lakeview Lodge and then Big Lake Camp on Caddo Lake at Potter's Point. My family moved to a house next to Klein's Camp in late 1935 and lived there for a hort time. I was 6 mos. old. They often spoke of Mr. and Mrs. Klein and what good people they were. Mrs. Klein died later here in Jefferson I believe. She lived longer than Mr. Klein. My parents also spoke of a Japanese man who lived the other side of us who was a fresh water pearl diver on Caddo. You can Google "Caddo Lake pearl hunting and find something of that.
I was just thinking of driving down to Caddo and looking at some of that area. The Klein's Helen Freda and Willy Herman are buried at Coor Cemetery not far from Caddo where many of my relatives are buried. Herman died in 1943 and Helen died much later.

Bobby Bollman
Jefferson, Texas
cypresstx@cobridge.tv

I am picking up research where my mother left off and I am fairly new at this. Right now I am working on the Allen Livingston and Glayds Davis lines. I found a message board suggesting he was a teacher at the Gray School and that he married his student. Anyone have any info on this? What about pictures of that School house? I went to Core Cemetary and photographed the headstones that my Uncle Billy Griffis said were kin....almost the WHOLE dang place. Lots of Griffis, Davis, Reynolds, Bourne, Livingston, Hartzo relatives. I wish I had realized how important it is to ask questions while we still have the chance with our old ones.

A lil' bit more! George Washington Dugan was the nephew of James William Davis. That's in response to Paula's question concerning their relationship on WWII Draft Registration. R. E. Dugan wed Texanna Davis (James's sis), 20 Apr 1890 in Marion County. View 1880 McLennan-Not Stated-106-Image 45 for James Davis born 1845 Alabama.
Hello Cara,
I am Izorah Davis Livingston's gg granddaughter. Many of our kin are buried in the Core Cemetery on Hwy2 out at Gray and even more are buried in Gray Cemetery out near Potter's Point. I went out there last week with my uncle and took pictures of most of the cemetery...we are kin to more I bet! If I can be of any help let me know! Still searching for pictures but that is futile I imagine!

I have been an ancestry.com subscriber for more than 10 years and recommend it highly. I've also driven 90 miles roundtrip, several times, to use a public library version of heritagequest online. Several experienced people monitor Texas' Community Bulletin Boards and try to aid genealogical research. So, help with "brickwalls" is available. This was/is a very large family. Jesse Jenkins had at least four brothers and a sister. There were at least five aunts and an equal number of uncles. Your roots extend to Virginia, Ohio, Illinois, and Missouri in addition to Texas.

I'm not related and did not contribute to the original discussion. I hope you subscribe to ancestry.com, heritagequest online, or similar research service? Your mother witnessed her father's death certificate. William Jesse Jenkins (1 Jun 1880 - 26 Feb 1950) was born in Missouri and died in Jefferson, Marion County, TX. His parents were Andy Warren Jenkins/Belle McCarty of Missouri. His birthdate is suspect based on 1900 Marion County-Jefferson Ward 2-District 91-Image 13 (April 1881) and WWI Draft Registration (22 Jan 1879). He was divorced at demise. His paternal grandparents were Amos Jenkins and Esther LNU of Virginia.

Browns of Jefferson-Marion County

Does anyone know anything about George Washington Brown and his wife, Josephine Fulton Brown? They are in Marion County from 1876-1906. I need to find out who their parents were. George was from Tennessee(6-13-1844)and Josephine was born in Kentucky(5-13-1854.)They married in 1874-don't know where. Their children were all born in Marion County, but I cannot find birth records for any of them. They had MANY children. George Herbert, Mora, Dora, Lora, Crockett, William E., Tennessee(Tennie), Texas, Bonnie, Annie, and Audrey. Most of these married in Texas and remained in the Jefferson, Dallas, and Fort Worth areas. Tennie married a Hawkins, Bonnie married a Jenkins, George married a Kirvin and moved to Louisiana. They owned property in Jefferson and in Upton County. Josephine was killed in a runnaway wagon accident in 1906. I cannot find where, and I cannot locate an obituary or a death certificate in Marion County. The incident WAS mentioned in the Dallas Daily news-briefly. I could not find anything in the Jefferson paper, though.

There seems to be another? George Washington Brown in the same area, so there is confusion in the records. Can anyone help me with birth records for the kids, marriage records for the parents,-anything that may help me find out the parentage of George W. and Josephine?
He was SUPPOSED to be half Cherokee and his dad's first name was reportedly William. There has to be someone out there who knows something about these people.

Hi, I was wondering if you found any information regarding Irena Tazwell. Peter Paquette is one of my ancestors and I am looking for his marriage certificate to Mary. I dont know how or why Irena was on the census with them. I know Peter and Mary moved to New Orleans. Hope this helps in your search.

Julia Irene Thompson was born 10/18/1852 in Covington, Tenn. On May 12, 1880, at the age of 28 years, Julia married Joseph Reeder Hedges, age 33, who was born on March 8, 1847 in Ohio. Joseph died on October 21, 1927 and Julia died on January 14,1938. They had seven children. Joseph Reeder fell from a wagon, was penned between the wagon and wheel, and had a concussion. From the concussion, he later developed a large brain tumor. He contracted flu which settled on his brain, and he had to be taken to Rusk where he died. Julia Irene contracted pneumonia and died in 1938 at Bear Creek Community. Both of them were buried at the Old Foundry Cemetery. If you would like more information on their family or scans of their gravestones please contact me at dbrichmond@comcast.net
