I'm rather late I'm sure. If you are still there, I'm in the process of identifying Green Berry (my GGrandfather) Baker's Children at Ft McKavett. I understand he had 7. His eldest, John Green, Aug 1879, was my Grandfather. His youngest Richard Lewis,b:Jan 1896. It's a little smokey in the middle. I have a family outline to share of what I have.

Mary Willis, b:1875, m. W.W. Burrows, may be R.T Baker's child.
Julia Delta Baker b:1885 m: James Abram Champie abt 1901 and d: Dec 1969 in Phoenix, AZ
Caleb Booker Baker b:1886 and
Robert Henry b. 1894 are all good candidates. I'm 1 or 2 short and need some firm info. Have not found 1890 or 1900 US Census yet and that will help when I do.

My Grandmother was Alta B.Hamby - married John Green Baker about 1909 to 1910. John was the son of Green Berry Baker in Ft McKavett, both born in Gonzalez County, TX.

I recently found Nannie Casey and Marion Franklin "Frank" Hamby references. I have several pictures handed down of the Hamby's around 1919 and one with family on porch full of girls and "Uncle General" noted as sitting on the step. So was glad to see the "General" nickname. I believe there was an Aunt Trudy, sister to Alta, may be an Albertine?, a friend Angie Webster about 1908.

These are only three records with parents names, there may be others.

These people are not listed 1900 census in FREESTONE county or elsewhere. Keep in mind information such as birthdates not always correct on death certificates. I believe Mary Jacobs Jackson was born in 1880 not 1883 and Callie was listed as Caroline in 1880 census.

Dan Jacobs appears in Pct 1, Navarro county 1930 census age 48 with daughters Pearly B age 20, Elizabeth age 18 and son Elzie age 15, wife Pearl not listed. 1920, Navarro County, Dan, Rose Anna, Perlie V, Olson E born 1913, Elzie 1915, Zelda Mae 1918. Dan Jacobs, stated he was born 25 Apr 1890 on his WW I Draft card in Navarro County.

Mary Jackson married black female age 26 is in Navarro Co 1910 census, husband John Jackson age 40 they married about 1908 he was previously married and Mary said she was mother of 5 children; Garlin H Jackson age 15 Lena Jackson age 11, Eddie Jackson age 5, Boston Jackson age 11, Artinsy Jackson age 15, Clarence Jackson age 18 all listed as children of John and Mary.

Callie Jane Demmings was married to Soloman (Sol,Saul,and Salmon)Jacobs in some records.Look for Dan Jacobs, Julius Jacobs, Bessie Jacobs, John Dudley, Homer Dudley, Jessie Mae Dudley, Wallace Dudley, Wallace Dudley Jr, Mary Johnson, and census records for Wallace Dudley with Lula, Dan Jacobs with wife Rosa Anna, Wallace Dudley, John Dudley, Mattie B. CORSICANA, Texas, June 23. - J. Jacobs, 72, retired merchant, died here Sunday. Funeral services will be held here Monday morning. A native of Hungary, Jacobs had resided here forty-five years.
Surviving are four sons, Harry Jacobs, and Julius Jacobs of Corsicana; Sol Jacobs of Conroe and Abe Jacobs of Waco; two daughters, Mrs. Rosa Leightman of Corsicana and Mrs. L. Eron of Longview; a brother, Kalman Jacobs of New York City, and six grandchildren.

This would be Julius Jacobs wife. Julius is Sol Jacobs and Callie Jane Demmings son.

MOBLEY Family - 1900 Residents of Menard County

The 1900 Federal Census for Menard County lists William Mobley, his wife Bulah and their children John E. and Stella.

The 1910 Federal Census shows John, Stella and Blanche Mobley in Bandera County, Texas in the household of their maternal aunt and uncle, Blanche and Ezra Chipman. Their parents are not listed, leading me to believe that they died sometime between Blanche's birth in 1902 and 1910.

Hoping for some leads on the fate of their parents and a possible burial location.

Wish I could help you out....but I'm not finding anything on the Alexander names you mentioned, and I have all 1800 Menard births from the courthouse. I've checked the indices AND the actual birth records.

Where are you getting your information from that leads you to believe they were born in Menard? Is it an actual record of some type, an obituary, or word of mouth?

Have you looked at a copy of Menard County History-An Anthology? There's a write up of A. B. Patton on page 488 which states: " Mr. Patton was born on Dec. 24, 1839 in Selma, Alabama. Sarah Annie Lee Thompson was born June 26, 1859 in Canton, Mississippi." There is additional information on children, when they came to Menard, etc.

Mary,

There is no "Protestant Cemetery" in Menard County, Texas that I know of.

Also, I have no records for a Hugo WEHLE........but I do for a Hugo VEHLE. This Hugo Vehle was born 1890 and died 1971. He is buried in Resthaven Cemetery in the Vehle family plot.

When I did my original survey of the cemetery 5 or 6 years ago, there was a funeral home "metal marker" for a "Mary Fannie Vehle".

I would like any info , photos, etc about Frank and Mary Eastwood Cimmerle Bihl and his 2nd wife Annie Bihl. They lived in the Ft McKavett area and in the Ft until the state turned it into a park. Gazella Crump would have been a daughter of Frank and Marys. I remember going to the Fort visiting my gr grandmother ( Annie.... step great actually). America Emmaline Mills married Nathaniel B Johnson Dec 27,1874 in Brown County Texas. I know this for fact, I contacted Brown County and they told me they didnt have a lot of records due to fire in 1880, but sent me to inquire with MENARD COUNTY. I am not sure as to the why of this. Family stories suggest that they could have married at an Army Fort. I thought about Ft Griffin, but its only a guess. I have handwriting of the husband Nathaniel, who states he was married on above date in Brown County Texas. She was the daughter of William Mills and Wilmuth Morton, of Brownwood. America was Cherokee Indian. Sure hope someone can help me get some documenation, to show their marriage, Any help appreciated

I just got back from the big town of Menard. I was doing some looking for a activity for my teins at church. I too and a great great great great grandaghter. Might not have enough or to many greats in their. mary E. Ivy was my great great grandmother. on my dads side. I do have date date will look it up if yopu are interested. Do you live near Menard. I am not related to the Cannon family.

I do not find a death record for a Miller in Menard county or any other county named Bobby or "Icie" who died 3 Dec 1960 nor one for her mother Bessie Adams Cannon who appears to have died between 1910 and 1920.

Robert L Cannon was with 2nd wife Lillie Mae in the 1920 census. Bessie Adams was Robert's step sister. They married about 1901 probably in McLennan county. Icie had one sister Hettie Pauline or Pauline Hettie born appx 1905 named partly after Robert's mother Hettie.

No record found for birth of Paula Bailey in Menard or any county.

Hello....I haven't been on the boards for some time and just found this message.
My g-grandfather lived in Hext from about 1878 or so until his death in 1933. His farm was next to the Hext cemetery - as a matter of fact, he donated part of the land for this cemetery. His name was William Steven Wilkerson, but he was probably better known as "Billie". One of his sons, Levi Wilkerson, ran a store in Hext at one time.
Any information on this family?

My search lies with Eda Jane Chapman, dau of James M. Chapman and Celinda Jane Stewart. She married Adam Bradford in 1851 and the Chapmans & Bradfords were in the Honey Creek Area of Llano County, TX for several decades before moving to Menard County, TX.

I need information on all the children of Adam & Eda's. and on Adam and second wife, Annies, children.

I think I have found the gravesite of Adam & Eda's first child, Francis M. Bradford, born in 1852 and died in 1858. He is buried beside his uncle Wm H. Chapman, Eda's little brother who died in 1859 at the age of 13. The graves are not in a cemetery but along a country road in Llano County. I have pictures and will share information.

Searching for information on Adam Bradford & Eda J. Chapman family. In Llano Co, TX in 1852. Later in Menard
Co, TX. Eda's parents were James M. Chapman & Celinda Jane Stewart and they also left Llano Co for Menard Co, TX.

The Chapmans came to TX from AR.

Adam Bradford m. Chapman
Adam's father was Jack Bradford

They were all in the Honey Creek Cove area of Llano county
until early 1860's when they left for the area that was to become Menard County. Adam's father, Jack, is buried in Menard Cemetery.

While in the Honey Creek Cove area, a young Bradford boy died, and a young Chapman boy. This was before the establishment of the Honey Creek Cemetry. They were buried on the Chapman property. (Chapman and Braford properties joined.

What do you know about the deaths of these children?

Now, in 1868 the infamous Legion Valley Indian Massacre occured in Llano Co, Legion Valley being just over Riley Mt form Honey Creek Cove area. There is a JACK BRADFORD listed in accounts. (His was the home that the badly wounded Matilda Jane Friend made it to after she was left for dead by the Indians)

One thing I need to know is who was this JACK BRADFORD and what became of him after 1868?

Fort McKavett Cemetery

I am a volunteer researcher for the Texas Peace Officers Memorial. On January 2, 1878, Texas Ranger Private Tim McCARTY died from a gun shot wound and was reportedly buried at Fort McKavett. Does anyone know if the cemetery exists today and whether McCARTY has a marker?

The town of Hext, Texas was known as Maringo (Marengo)
when the area was settled in the 1870's, but the residents changed the name to Hext in the late 1890's in honor of Joseph Robert Hext, why it was named after him no one seems to know. I was told that my ggg-grandmother married Joseph Hext. She was a widow and her last name was Nixon.
I don't know what her first name was, she had a son named W.Robert (Bob) Nixon,he would of been between 12-14 yrs old when they married. If anyone has any info on this would you please contact me. Terryymartinn@aol.com

Menard County Churches in 1900

Looking for information on the following family:

The 1900 Federal Census for Menard County (Justice Precinct 3) lists William Mobley, his wife Bulah and their children John E. and Stella.

The 1910 Federal Census shows John, Stella and Blanche Mobley in Bandera County, Texas in the household of their maternal aunt and uncle, Blanche and Ezra Chipman. Their parents are not listed, leading me to believe that they died sometime between Blanche's birth in 1902 and 1910.

Hoping for some leads on the fate of their parents and a possible burial location. Since William's occupation is listed on the census as "Minister of Gospel", I'm hoping someone out there familiar with church history can at least tell me the name of the church that he preached in. I'm hoping the church will have some information about the family.

My grandmother, Fanny Mary (Wishard) Wehle, died and was cremated on February 25, 1946 in San Francisco, California. Her cremated remains were shipped to the Sanders Funeral Home on March 16, 1946. She was supposed to have been buried at the Protestant Cemetery in Menard, Texas. Her husband, Hugo, died in October 1971 and was also buried at Menard, Texas.
Does anyone have finding directions for this cemetery?
