Billalba, Irma

Irma Rey Billalba, 58, formerly of Midland, died Nov. 9, in Grand Prairie.

He was born July 29, 1948, to Celedonio and Rosa Rey of Midland

He married Ruben Billalba. He is survived by his children, two daughters, Bonnie Reyes & Monica Billalba; one son Ruben Billalba Jr.; two grandchildren; sisters, Margie Rodriguez and Celia Sosa from Midland, and Melinda Hernandez from Grand Prairie; brothers, Jim Rey from Garland, Alfonso Rey from Austin, and Danny Rey from Albuquerque, N.M.; and several nieces and nephews

Blattner, Stanford D.

Stanford D. Blattner was born in Rozel, KS on July 7, 1912. He attended the Rozel Public School System, graduating from Rozel High in June, 1930. Following this he taught grade school North of Rozel for four years, 1930-1934. He and Martha Eilts married on August 14, 1932. He and Martha worked his way through Kansas State College, and he graduated with honors receiving a B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering in 1938.

Stanford and Martha were blessed with two daughters, Sandra in 1942 and Linda in 1949, and with 6 grandchildren; Patricia Kelly, Robert and Maria Lockwood, and Brian and Paul Rounding. Sandy went on to work for Mognolia Petroleum Company (Mobile Oil) on June 8, 1938 as a helper on a Geophysical Crew. He retired from Mobile Oil on November 30, 1976 and continued working as a Geophysical Consultant until 1985. During this career he was a Geophysical helper, Surveyor, Gravity Meter Observer, Gravity Interpreter, Party Chief, Seismic Interpreter, Division Geophysicist, Senior Headquarters Geophysicist, Chief Geophysicist of Mobile Oil Corporation, and a Geophysicist Consultant.

During the course of this career, Sandy and his family lived in 98 different homes in Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Louisiana, Mississippi, New York, Connecticut, Florida, Alaska, and Canada. In 1978 they moved from Darien, CT to Dallas, TX expecting to spend the rest of their lives in Dallas However in the late 1988 the moved to the USAA Towers, a high-rise retirement home in San Antonio, TX, where they lived until Martha's death. Sandy and Martha agreed that it was a "hard but wonderful life filed with hard work, fun, and love." During their life together they belonged to many churches, mostly Methodist.

In addition to his children and grandchildren, Sandy is survived by two brothers: Eugene Blattner of Rozel, KS, and Clavin Blattner of Rozel, KS; One sister: Charlotte Becker of Hays, KS; Seven great grandchildren: Stephanie and Emily Grey, Brad, Robert, and Ryan Lockwood, Abagail Clark, and Kye Rounding. He was preceded in death by: his wife Martha Blattner; Two sisters Ellen Bentley, ad Sandra M. Locking; 6 brothers Leroy Blattner, Vernon Blattner, Charles Blattner Joe Blattner; Andrew Grey.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 17, 2006 at the Jetmore Funeral Home in Jetmore, Kansas at 10: 30 a.m.

Bozzell, Doris Louise

Doris Louise Bozzell, 80, died Friday, November 10, 2006 in Fort Worth.

Mrs. Bozzell was born July 21, 1926 in Buffalo, New York to Ada Alice Ford Wilson and Robert Earl Wilson of Buffalo. She was a graduate of St. Mary's Seminary, Buffalo, and married James Donald Bozzell, M.D. of Weatherford on December 27, 1947.

Mrs. Bozzell was preceded in death by her husband, James Donald Bozzell, M.D.; son, James Wilson Bozzell, Sr.; and grandson, James Wilson Bozzell, Jr.

Survivors: Include daughter, Carol Patricia Bozzell Teegarden and her husband, Marshall Kirk Teegarden of Weatherford; sons, John Sturges Bozzell and wife, Dannette of Las Cruces, NM, Thomas Ford Bozzell and wife, Pam of Claremore, Oklahoma, Mark Edward Bozzell of Midland, Michael Robert Bozzell of Weatherford. Also surviving are daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Anne Bergman Bozzell of Weatherford; and grandchildren, Ryan and Elyse Bozzell, Matthew and Blake Teegarden, Sarah Bozzell, Catherine Louise Bozzell; nephew, James Richmond McCarty, M.D. and sister-in-law, Jeanne Bozzell McCarty.

Services will be officiated by Father John Casey at the St. Stephens Catholic Chapel. 200 block of South Main Street in Weatherford on Wednesday, November 15, 2006 at 11:00 a.m.

At the request of the family, interment services will be private. Rosary services are scheduled 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at White's Funeral Home in Weatherford.

Estes, Virginia

Virginia W. Estes died Nov. 10, at her residence.

She was born Aug. 17, 1908 in Plainview.

She was married to the late Clark Estes. She was a member of Methodist Faith.

She is survived by her two stepsons; Lex Allgood of Midland and Richard Estes of Bartesville, OK, and step daughter Tanya Dunlap of Andrews, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband and one sister.

Funeral Service will be held Monday, Nov. 13, at Pipkin Funeral Home Chapel at 10 a.m. with Rev. Pete Campbell officiating. Interment will be held in the Plainview Cemetery in Plainview.

Jones, George Vernon

George Vernon Jones, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 8, 2006. He was born on May 7, 1955, in Fort Worth, Texas to Leo Sr. and Nina Jones. George moved to Midland shortly after his birth. He attended Ralph J. Bunche Elementary School, Carver Jr. and Sr. High School and graduated from Midland High School in 1973. He continued his education at Midland College.

He received Jesus as his Savior at a very early age as a member of New Hope Baptist Church, and was presently a member of Rehoboth Christian Worship Center, Plainview, Texas. His place of employment was Kinder Morgan, an energy transportation, storage and distribution company.

George is survived by his loving wife, Carla Jones, and eight beautiful children; Tierra Wright and her husband Quentin Wright of Arlington, Texas, Marcus Harris and his wife Gina of Plainview, Texas Javon Clay of San Antonio, Texas; Melandre Averyhart of Dallas, Texas, Treka Smith of Houston, Texas, Latorrez Jones and his wife Jennifer Jones of Cedar Hill, Texas, Corne' Jones and his wife, and Kellon Swaim of Odessa, Texas; and eleven grandchildren that he loved dearly.

George's spirit will continue to be carried on by his six siblings; Queenster Perkins and her husband Frank Perkins of Las Vegas, Nevada, Francine Moton and her husband, Billy Cal Moton, of Houston, Texas, Leo Jones, Jr. of Houston, Texas, Ernestine Robinson and her husband, Edward Robinson, of Fontana, California, Lucille Noel and her husband, Raphael Noel, of St. George's, Grenada WI, Sharon Rena Stinnett and her husband, Alex Stinnett, of Austin, Texas.

Wake, Sunday, November 12, 2006, 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Jackie Warren Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 13, at 10:00 a.m., at Greater Ideal Baptist Church, located at 411 South Tyler Street, Midland, Texas, Rev. George A. Bell, Pastor, Rev. McClain, Bethel Pinkston

Bethel Pinkston McClain, of Midland, passed away Wednesday, November 8, 2006.

She was born April 5, 1935 in Paducah, Texas to Berton Pinkston and Winney Barnes Pinkston. A giving and charitable person, Bethel loved all children especially her grandchildren. She wrote songs, poetry, and enjoyed arts and crafts. Christmas was her favorite holiday. She was a member of Westside Church of Christ for 2 years. She was also an IOOF Rebecca's member for 34 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Berton Pinkston and Winney Kellam, and step-father, "Pee Wee" Kellam.

Bethel is survived by her sons, Berton A. Elliott, Monty D. Elliott, S. W. Elliott, and step-son, Curtis D. Hardy, all of Midland, TX; half-brother, J. D. Pinkston of Fort Worth, TX; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Nevares, Ramon Mendoza

Ramon Mendoza Nevares passed away Nov. 6, 2006, he was 85 years old. Ramon was born Jan. 22, 1921 in Otis, N.M. to Jose and Bernabe Nevares. He was a cement finisher. Ramon moved to Dayton, Nv. in 1985, moving here from San Jose, Ca. Ramon liked to fish, he also enjoyed camping and boating. He was a WWII veteran serving in the U.S. Army as a medic in an infantry unit. Ramon was preceded in death by his wife, Martina Nevares, who passed away in 2001, a daughter, Carolina Nevares who passed away in 2002, two sisters, Lupe Romero who passed away in 2003 and Manuela Rivas who passed away in 1988, and one brother, Blas Diaz who passed away in 1994.

Ramon will be missed by two daughters, Emma Lopez of Dayton, Nv., and Rufina Sanchez and her husband, Pablo of Midland, Tx. and two sons, Ray Nevares Jr. and his wife, Marcy of Los Banos, Ca., and John Joe Nevares of Midland, Tx. Also a brother, Jesus Nevares of El Psaso, Tx. Sixteen grandchildren, thirty great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren.

A Rosary will be held Sunday night 7pm at Oak Hill Mortuary in San Jose, Ca.

A Funeral Service for Ramon Mendoza Nevares will be Monday, Nov. 13, 2006 at 10am at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in San Jose, Ca., Ramon will be laid to rest beside his San Jose, Ca.

Walton's Chapel of the Valley in Carson City, Nv. has been entrusted with his final arrangements.

Rojas Sr., Daniel Cruz

Daniel Cruz Rojas Sr., 78, died Thursday, Nov. 9, at Hospice Inpatient Unit in Midland.

He was born Feb. 24, 1928 in Goliad, to the late Nicolas and Petra Rojas.

He was raised and educated in Goliad. He met and married Juanita P. Lucio. They married Sept. 10, 1949. He was a Catholic.

He is preceded in death by his parents and one son, Nicholas L. Rojas.

He is survived by, his wife, Juanita Lucio Rojas of Midland; two sons, Ruben L. Rojas of Midland and Daniel L. Rojas Jr. of Waco; two daughters, Juanita Ochoa and Gloria R. Renz of Midland; two brothers, Presiliano Rojas and Isidoro Rojas of Goliad; two sisters, Monica Sanchez and Maria Rojas Alvarez of Goliad; twenty-three grandchildren and thirty-one great-grandchildren; numerous uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces and cousins.

Funeral Mass was held Saturday, Nov. 11, at St. Stephen's Catholic Church. Interment followed at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Wilde, Lula L.

Lula L. Wilde passed away on October 15, 2006 after a brief illness. She was born on June 1, 1929 in Ranger, Texas to Arter and Carrie Leverett. Lula was an avid reader and writer and a member of the West Texas Writers Guild. Lula was active in church activities and a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church.

Lula is preceded in death by her husband, Garner, her parents, and her brother Robert C. Leverett.

She is survived by her children Carol Wilde of Oberlin Ohio and Laura Wilde Greenwood and husband Bill of Houston, TX. brothers Howard Leverett and wife Zulynne of Henderson, TX, Bill Leverett and wife MaryAnna of Zachary, LA and sister Ruth Rainwater of Corsicana, TX; grandchildren, Yvan Greenberg and partner Corey Dargel of Brooklyn, NY; Sybil Cummin and husband Joe of Boulder, CO, Aaron Greenberg of Denver, CO, Leeann Greenwood and Tracee Greenwood both of Houston, TX .

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2006 at 1:00 pm at St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Midland with Reverend Richard Edwards officiating.

Billalba, Irma Rey

Irma Rey Billalba was called to her heavenly home on Thursday, November 9, 2006. Born in Monahans, Texas July 29, 1948, Irma was 58 years old and was raised in Midland, Tx, graduating from Midland High School in 1966. She is survived by Ruben, her loving husband of 40 years, and children, Bonnie (Mike Schmitz) Reyes, Plano, Tx, Monica Billalba, Grand Prairie,Tx and Ruben Billalba, III, Des Moines, Iowa. She also leaves behind her precious grandchildren, Miranda Reyes and Nicholas Billalba.

Irma is also survived by her parents, Celedonio and Rosa Urias Rey of Midland,Txs; 3 brothers: Jim C. Rey, Garland, Tx, Alfonso Rey, Austin, Tx, Danny (Cecelia) Rey, Albuquerque, NM. 3 sisters: Margie Rodriguez, Midland, Tx, Celia (Luis) Sosa from Midland, Tx, Melinda (George) Hernandez, Grand Prairie, Tx.

Irma also is survived by her mother in law, Rosalia Gonzalez Billalba, Big Spring, Tx. Brother and sisters in law: Tommy (Olga) Billalba, Big Spring, Tx., Beatrice Stevens, Lubbock, Tx, Mary Lou (Santos) Lujan, Kermit, Tx, Frances Mckiski, Big Spring, Tx, Adelina (Albert) Correa, Canyon, Tx, Nora (Peter) Paul, Aviano, Italy, Delia ( Mike) Cruz, Amarillo, Tx, and a host of special nieces and nephews as well as her dear pets, Scooter and Lil' Bit.

Irma married Ruben, the love of her life on April 16, 1966 and they lived in Big Spring, Tx until moving to Dallas in 1969. She retired from Southwestern Bell in 2001 and was currently employed by the DFW Printing. Irma was a member of St. Michael The Archangel Catholic Church in Grand Prairie where she served as a CCD teacher. She was also very involved with the South Grand Prairie High School Warrior Booster Club.

Irma's purpose in life was to serve others. She made certain that every day of her life was devoted to the happiness and welfare of her beautiful family and the multitude of friends that her children and grandchildren gathered around them. She was devoted to the SGP Warriors and gave countless hours of her time to benefit the kids.

Cockrell, Jerry "Spot"

BIG SPRING -- Jerry "Spot" Cockrell, 75, of Big Spring, died Sunday, Nov. 12, at his residence. Graveside funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14, at the Peace Chapel at Trinity Memorial Park with the Rev. Joel Miller, pastor of Birdwell Lane United Methodist Church, officiating. He will be assisted by Kirby Brown and Ronnie Gilbreath.

He was born Nov. 15, 1930, in Howard County, and married Daury Garrison June 4, 1954 in Big Spring.

He was a lifelong resident of Big Spring. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was a Christian.

Survivors include his wife, Daury Cockrell of Big Spring; one son, Donnie Cockrell of Alvord; two daughters, Jana Carter-Hector and Debbie Ellis both of Big Spring; one sister, Gwen Rogers of Big Spring; three granddaughters; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces & nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Morris and Allie Cockrell; two brothers, Billy Wayne and Bobby Lynn; two granddaughters, Christy Carter and Nikki Lynn Ellis; and a son-in-law, Fuzzy Carter. Lawson, Florence

ODESSA -- Florence Estelle Lawson, age 84, of Odessa, died Saturday, Nov. 11, at her residence. She was born Aug. 29, 1922 in Joplin, Mo. to the late Eugene H. and Dorothy (Hoover) Cookerly. She was retired from working as a secretary for an insurance agency.

Survivors include three sons, John T. Lawson, Jr. of Odessa, Thomas E. Lawson of Franklin, and Michael M. Lawson of Gladewater; one daughter, Rebecca A. Lawson of Odessa; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Memorial services are scheduled for 2 p.m. today, Nov. 13, at Acres West Funeral Chapel of West Odessa officiated by the Rev. Dr. Owen Sharp. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

McKee, Effie

BIG SPRING -- Effie McKee, 96, of Lubbock, formerly of Big Spring, died Saturday, Nov. 11, in a Lubbock nursing home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel in Big Spring with the Rev. Shon Wagoner, pastor of Redbud Baptist Church in Lubbock, officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olive Memorial Park.

She was born March 29, 1910, in Falls County, and married Carl Preston McKee Nov. 29, 1928 in Vealmoor. He preceded her in death March 19, 1975.

She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Big Spring.

Survivors include one daughter, Geneva Higgins of Lubbock; one son, Carl "Pete" McKee of Friona; a sister, Julia Lee Hunt of Houston; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Grady Higgins on August 19, 1982.

The family suggests memorials to a charity of choice.

Thurman, Mary

BIG SPRING -- Mary Thurman, 89, of Big Spring died Saturday, Nov. 11, at Parkview Nursing and Rehab. Services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Myers & Smith Chapel with burial at Coahoma Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. today, Nov. 13, at Myers and Smith Funeral Home.

She was born June 17, 1917, in Oklahoma. She married H. L. Thurman in 1949 in Big Spring. He preceded her in death Dec. 5, 1975. She was a nurse's aide, having worked at the Big Spring Care Center. She was a member of Midway Baptist Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Merle Berry and Pearl Cotton, both of Big Spring; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Viola Solsbery of Kingsland; and a number of nieces and nephews.

BIG SPRING -- Pedro A. "Pete" Carrillo, 69, of Big Spring died Saturday, Nov. 11, at his residence. Vigil services will be at 7 p.m. today, Nov. 14 at Myers & Smith Chapel. Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with burial at Mount Olive Memorial Park.

He was born May 5, 1937, in Shafter, to Magdalena and Florencio Carrillo. He had been a resident of Big Spring for the past 65 years. He was an active member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. He was a Curillista and a member of St. Josephs' Society.

He is survived by his wife, Elisa Carrillo of Big Spring; five sons, Pete P. Carrillo, Ismael Carrillo, Abel Carrillo, Martin Carrillo, and Samuel P. Carrillo, all of Big Spring; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one brother, Jesus Carrillo of Big Spring.

James Edgar "Jim" Coale, age 45, died in Bryan, TX on November 12, 2006. He was born June 29, 1961 in Houston, TX. Jim is survived by his wife Amy Coale, his children, Collin Parker Coale, Callie Marie Coale, Claire Sewell Coale, Camille Renee Coale, Caroline Cobb Coale and Corinne Elizabeth Coale, all of Boerne, TX, his parents Gerald and Frances Coale of Fredericksburg, TX, sisters Renee Willis and husband Chip of San Antonio, TX, and Angie Dickinson and husband Jim of El Paso, TX, brother Matthew Coale and wife Cathy of Fredericksburg, TX, mother-in-law Peggy Sewell of Tulsa, OK, brother-in-law Parker Sewell and wife Kathryn of Tulsa, OK, also 11 nieces and nephews.

Visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 14, 2006 with a rosary to begin at 7:00 p.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Boerne. Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 15, at St. Peter's Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the Boerne Cemetery.

Wackerow, Clara

Clara Wackerow, 81, passed away on Sunday, November 12, 2006 in Midland, Texas, where she had resided for the past two years. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Clara was born on October 4, 1925 to Glenn and Rebecca Jewett in Penfield, New York. She married Wilbur Wackerow on December 9, 1944 in East Rochester, New York. He preceded Clara in death on July 2, 1980.

Clara worked for the New York State School System, retiring in October of 1990. She loved to read and was a homemaker.

Clara will be missed by a son, Jeffrey Wackerow of Rochester, New York; a son, Thomas Wackerow and his wife, Mary of Combine, Texas; a daughter, Betsy Evans and her husband, Terry of Midland, Texas; a granddaughter, Traci Calderon of Dallas, Texas; a granddaughter, Dawn Hernandez of Midland, Texas and her children, Roxanne, Zachary, Christopher and Seneca; a grandson, Shane Evans and his wife, April of Sandpoint, Idaho and their children, Joseph and Emily; a grandson, Torrey Evans and his wife, Carrie of Westwego, Louisiana and their daughter, Carley.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Harold and Jimmy Jewett and a daughter, Shirley Wackerow.

He was born Feb. 10, 1923, in Minneapolis, Minn. and married Eloise Elizabeth Fain March 4, 1946 in Minneapolis, Minn.

He served in the US Marine Corps from 1941-1947 and served in the South Pacific during WW II. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Eloise Watkins of Big Spring; three daughters, Lorrie Jones of Canyon, Monnie Bacon of Harlingen, and Tammy Yeats of Big Spring; one brother, Frank Watkins of Minneapolis, Minn.; one sister, Patty Selton of Minneapolis, Minn.; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.

Brahaney, Ed

Ed Brahaney, of Midland, passed away Tuesday evening, November 14, 2006 at Hospice of Midland Inpatient Unit following a long illness.

Born in Ranger, Texas, August 15, 1924 to Frank and Lillian Brahaney, Ed was raised in Wink and Abilene and was a graduate of Abilene High School. He also graduated from the University of Texas with degrees in Business Administration and Law in 1950. He then joined his father, Frank T. Brahaney, Sr., a pioneer in the oil and gas industry in Texas, and his brother, Frank T. Brahaney, Jr., in Midland as drilling contractors and oil producers.

He continued to be active in the oil and gas industry throughout his life and was a member of the State Bar of Texas, the Petroleum Club of Midland, and the Wildcatters Association. History, politics and travel were special interests of his.

He was preceded in death by his parents and niece, Judy K. Pettis.

Ed is survived by his brother, Frank T. Brahaney of Midland, TX; sister, June K. Pettis of Midland, TX; nephews, Tom F. Brahaney of Midland, TX; and Rick Pettis of Dallas, TX; nieces, Carolyn Brahaney of Dallas, TX; and Mary Ann Christian of Richmond, VA; great-nephews, Michael K. Pettis, and his children, Regan, Cole and Case Pettis of Frisco, TX; great-nephew and niece, William T. and Lauren Christian of Richmond, VA.

Brigman, Kenneth Andrew

Kenneth Andrew Brigman, 69, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, November 15, 2006. He was born and raised in Kannapolis, N.C. to Ira Andrew Brigman and Elzady S. Brigman. Ken married Jane Collins in 1957 in Los Angeles, CA.

They have one son, Roy Brigman and one daughter, Chris Rowley. He later married Doris McMillan Braggs on September 12, 1970. They have two daughters, Shanna Williams and Renee Brigman.

Ken graduated from LIFE Bible College in 1959. He dedicated his life to doing the Lord's work as a pastor and youth pastor for many years. He then worked for Sears and Zales Corporations. He recently worked for Wal-Mart for seven years, greeting people at the door and putting smiles on everyone's faces. He was a member of Calvary Assembly for thirty-one years.

Ken's greatest love was to spend time with his family and he cherished the moments he had with his grandkids. He enjoyed ministering to the elderly while preaching and singing. For many years he sang in groups sharing God's love in song.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents, a half-brother Hugh Smith, and a sister Beatrice Wetter. He is survived by his wife, Doris Brigman of Midland; his children, Roy Brigman and his wife Margie of Abilene, TX, Chris Rowley and her husband Randy of Austin, TX, Shanna Williams and her husband Brad of Midland, Renee Brigman of Midland; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. One half-brother, J.W. Smith of Georgia, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Pallbearers will be John McMillan, Bob Sundet, Ken Pruitt, David Carbajal, David Rich, Glen Sanders, Leroy Brigman and Ryan Rowley.

Services will be at First Assembly of God on Friday, November 17, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Gayle Reeves officiating. Interment will follow at Serenity Memorial Gardens. The family requests memorials to be sent to New Springs Family Church.

ODESSA -- Eileen Kathryn O'Leary Carpenter died Nov. 13. She was born in Oklahoma City, Okla., Nov. 14, 1915.

During WWII she met and married James William "Buddy" Carpenter; after his discharge from the Navy, they moved to Bristow, Okla.

She is survived by her husband, James William "Buddy" Carpenter of the home; J. Dan Carpenter; Kathryn "Kay" Carpenter Batte of Odessa; and Dr. James William "Bill" Carpenter of Midland; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 17, at Sunset Memorial Chapel with the Revs. Clark Racca and Don Allen officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.

Greenlaw, Sonora Nell Patton

Sonora Greenlaw, 84, of Midland peacefully entered eternal life on Monday, November 13, 2006 at the Hospice Inpatient Unit at Midland Memorial Hospital. Services will be held on Friday, November 17th, 2006 at 4:00 p.m. at St. Paul's Anglican Church, 2900 Princeton Avenue in Midland with the Reverends Jon Stasney and Jonathan Hartzer officiating.

Pat was born to Edward C. and Nell F. Patton on July 19, 1922 in Stephenville, Texas where she lived until after college when she began her career. She held secretarial and administrative positions with the CAA and in the oil and medical fields until retirement in 1985.

She married the love of her life, Don Greenlaw, on October 20, 1946. They were blessed by a deep and very special love for one another for 28 years until he passed away on October 17, 1974.

Affectionately called G.G. by her grandchildren, she loved nature, animals, painting and gardening. Despite failing vision in later years she continued to crochet and gave countless afghans to family, friends and charities. She was a member of Christ Church Midland.

Survivors include two daughters, Terry Toolen and husband Bob of St. Louis, MO and Kasey Weaver and husband Phil of Midland, TX; three grandchildren, Kevin Toolen of St. Louis, MO, Lauren Weaver of Houston, TX and Andrew Weaver of Bryan, TX; one sister, Martha Wolfe of Jacksboro, TX.

BIG SPRING -- Mae Bell Johnson, 80, of Big Spring, died Saturday, Nov. 11, in a local hospital. She was born Nov. 28, 1925, in Marlin, and married Joe B. Johnson on Oct. 12, 1942 in Big Spring. He preceded her in death Feb. 23, 1986.

She attended Mount Bethel Baptist Church.

Survivors include four daughters, Carolyn Newton, Edna Cannon, both of San Angelo, Betty Gibbs of Big Spring, and Gladas Johnson Brown of Grand Prairie; four sons, Tommie Johnson, Elvis Johnson, Dwayne Johnson all of San Angelo, and Ray Johnson of Grand Prairie; four sisters, Shirley Parker of Big Spring, Igentry Bradley, Georgia Jones, and Ruth Knecht, all of Midland; two brothers, Charles Moore of Midland and Robert Jackson of Canada; 50 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lonzra and Rosie Lee Jackson Hunter; two sons, Joe Bailey Johnson Jr. and Charles Edwards Johnson; and two daughters, Bertha Hudson, and Mary Jane Johnson.

Jonas, Sybil Marie

Sybil Marie Jonas slipped away into the loving arms of her heavenly Father, during the early morning hours of November 13, 2006. She was born on August 5, 1932, in Marysville, Texas, to A.C. and Myrtle Reeves. Sybil attended North Ward Elementary, Cowden Junior High, and graduated with the first graduating class of Midland High School in 1951. Since she was the oldest daughter in her family she learned to cook, clean, and take care of her brothers and sisters at an early age. Myrtle depended on Sybil to help around the house when a new baby arrived. In high school she worked as an elevator girl in the Vaughn Building. After living in Germany and Massachusetts she moved back to Midland in 1960, to raise her three children. She worked for Service Drug, making great food and fountain drinks from 1961-1968, MISD Food Service from 1969-1971, various drive-in theaters, convenience stores, and Fashion Cleaners to support her three children. In 1980, she started a child day care in her home and continued to do so until about 2000. She also worked in church nurseries, especially Bellview Baptist Church, where her mother Myrtle, and grandmother, Lillie Reeves had worked. Sybil was baptized on April 9, 1950, at Bellview Baptist where she remained a member until her passing.

Sybil was preceded in death by her parents, A.C. and Myrtle Reeves, a brother Billy Dale, and a sister Joan Carol Newton. She is survived by three children, daughter, Ramona Gilbert and husband Gary of Midland, and their children, Logan of Aurora, CO; Andrea of Waukesha, WI; Chiani, Bryce, and Tanner of Midland; daughter, Janice Young and husband Jerry and their children, Brandon Epting, Shawnna Jonas, and Jared Young of Midland; and son, James Jonas and wife Dawn of Midland, and their children Kourtney Jonas of Taylor, MI; Jennifer Baker and husband Jason of Midland; and Ambrosia Yamamoto and husband Alma of Chicago, IL. She has two great-grandchildren, Dante Ramirez and Skylaar Phillips, both of Midland. She is also survived by four brothers, Al Reeves and wife Patsy of Casper, WY; Leroy Reeves and wife Mary of Midland; Charles Reeves and wife Ann of Spicewood, TX; and Bobby Reeves and wife Shirley of Midland. She is survived by three sisters, Betty Bagwell and husband Hulen of Colorado City, TX; Nancy Young and husband Wayne of Panola, TX; and Beverly Shelton and husband Ernie of Longview, TX; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Rogers, Michael Lynn

A memorial service will be held for Michael Lynn Rogers, November 18, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at Kentucky St. Baptist Church 1507 Kentucky with Pastor Bob Porterfield. Mike was born on April 5, 1970 in Midland to Larry Rogers and Emly Ann Rogers. He left this world but not our hearts on November 2, 2006.

He is survived by his step son, Matthew Hall; one son, Kevin Harlin Rogers, and one daughter, Korie Jo Lynn Rogers of Sweetwater; one brother, Danny Rogers of Midland; two sisters, Brenda Rogers of Mertzon, and Laura and Jimmy Farquhar of Midland; aunts and uncles, Jimmy Rogers of Sweetwater, Sharon and Jerry Rotan of San Angelo, Henry and Penny Mitchell of Trent, Verne and Dale Deen of Trent, Wanda and Clarence Baker of Gatesville, and Lonnie and Carolyn Mitchell of Tye; and nieces and nephews, Katie Lynn Rogers, Tiffany Dean Rogers, Devon Glen Rogers, Summer Dawn Farquhar and Amber Sky Farquhar, all of Midland; and he had numerous cousins and friends.

Michael worked in the oilfield, he then became a welder and started his own business.

He was a loving husband, father, son, brother and friend. He liked to fish, camp and have cookouts for family and friends. He was a talented artist as a hobby and he liked to write. He had a strong faith in God, we who knew him and loved him will miss him.

Saldaña, Mary Alice

Mary Alice Saldaña, of Midland, died Wednesday, Nov. 15.

Born January 20, 1940 in San Angelo, to Ignacio Samarripa and Abelina Gomez Samarripa, Mary was raised and educated in Odessa. She attended Sul Ross University and Midland College. She was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband, Ricardo Saldaña of Midland; son, Richard Vasquez Sr., daughter, Cindy Collins, and son, Albert Saldaña, all of Midland; brothers, Tom Samarripa of Odessa; and Rene Samarripa of Korea; sisters, Lupe Samarripa of Odessa; Eva Molina of Lancaster; Abby Vargas of Fort Worth; Elda Aldarete of San Angelo; and Linda Potts of Arlington; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A prayer vigil will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17, at Ellis Funeral Home.

Traweek Jr., Charley (C.B.)

Charley (C.B.) Traweek Jr., 82, of Midland, passed away on Tuesday, November 14, 2006 in Big Spring. A funeral mass will be held at 12:00 P.M. Thursday, November 16, 2006 at the St. Stephen's Catholic Church in Midland with Father James Bridges, officiating. A rosary will be held at 7:00 P.M., Wednesday, November 15, 2006 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home in Midland.

Charley was born on February 2, 1924, in Burkburnet, Texas to Charley Bee and Mary Isabell Ogburn. He married Thelma Mott on July 25, 1947 in Hamilton, MO.

Charley attended schools in Commerce, Texas. He then joined the United States Marine Corps, serving for two years during World War II in Guam, Iwo Jima and China. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service for many years, retiring in 1983. Charley enjoyed gardening and caring for his animals and was a member of St. Stephen's Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, Thelma Traweek of Midland, a son and daughter-in-law, Charley B. and Margie Traweek, III of Running Springs, California; a son, Stephen Marc and Zanna Traweek of Plains; a son and daughter-in-law, Anthony Allen and Shawna Traweek of East Bernard, Texas; a son, Albert Edward Traweek of Midland; a daughter and son-in-law, Cecilia Marie and Gary Moore of Midland; a daughter and son-in-law, Mona Isabel & Thomas Ignas of Houston; a daughter-in-Law, Diania Traweek of Stanton; brother, Leslie Traweek of Lubbock; a brother, Cecil Traweek of Greenville, thirteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

C.B. was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Timothy Russell Traweek, his brother, Dean Traweek and his sister, Mary Colleen Traweek.

White, Luther Alan

Luther Alan White was born on February 2, 1947, and died on November 11, 2006. He was born in New Mexico, lived in Midland, Texas and Valdez, AK. He was retired from the local 302 operating engineers union with over 30 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris White.

Survived by his brother Paul White; one son, Alan White, one daughter, Angie McKay; one son in law, David McKay and five grandchildren, Blake White, Brooke White, Alexis McKay, Alyssa McKay, Addison McKay. Bettis, Harold J.

Harold J. Bettis, 86, of San Angelo passed away Wednesday, November 15, 2006 at his residence.

Graveside service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, November 18, 2006 at the Resthaven Memorial Parks Cemetery in Midland, Texas with Minister Ed McCorkle of the Church of Christ officiating. Arrangements are made by Robert Massie Funeral Home.

Harold was born November 25, 1919 in Paden, Oklahoma to John and Mary "Molly" Bettis. Harold was an Army Veteran and worked as a tool pusher and driller for numerous years. He married Mary Little Herrington on January 18, 1975. They lived in Mertzon and ran a pecan farm for 22 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, two sisters and first wife Inez Johnson.

Survivors are his wife, Mary Bettis of San Angelo; step-son Larry Herrington both of San Angelo; daughter Kim Hunter and husband, Kenny of Arkansas; step-son Sandy L. Herrington and wife, Carol of Las Vegas, Nevada; one granddaughter Megan Hunter, two step-grandsons David and Robert Herrington; sisters Jean Smith of Celeste, Texas. and Jewel Barfield of Elk City, Oklahoma and one Brother, Carl Bettis of California.

Brahaney, Ed

Ed Brahaney, of Midland, passed away Tuesday evening, November 14, 2006 at Hospice of Midland Inpatient Unit following a long illness.

Born in Ranger, Texas, August 15, 1924 to Frank and Lillian Brahaney, Ed was raised in Wink and Abilene and was a graduate of Abilene High School. He also graduated from the University of Texas with degrees in Business Administration and Law in 1950. He then joined his father, Frank T. Brahaney, Sr., a pioneer in the oil and gas industry in Texas, and his brother, Frank T. Brahaney, Jr., in Midland as drilling contractors and oil producers.

He continued to be active in the oil and gas industry throughout his life and was a member of the State Bar of Texas, the Petroleum Club of Midland, and the Wildcatters Association. History, politics and travel were special interests of his.

He was preceded in death by his parents and niece, Judy K. Pettis.

Ed is survived by his brother, Frank T. Brahaney of Midland, TX; sister, June K. Pettis of Midland, TX; nephews, Tom F. Brahaney of Midland, TX; and Rick Pettis of Dallas, TX; nieces, Carolyn Brahaney of Dallas, TX; and Mary Ann Christian of Richmond, VA; great-nephews, Michael K. Pettis, and his children, Regan, Cole and Case Pettis of Frisco, TX; great-nephew and niece, William T. and Lauren Christian of Richmond, VA.

Brigman, Kenneth Andrew

Kenneth Andrew Brigman, 69, died Wednesday, Nov. 15. He was born and raised in Kannapolis, N.C. to Ira Andrew Brigman and Elzady S. Brigman. He married Jane Collins in 1957 in Los Angeles.

They have one son, Roy Brigman and one daughter, Chris Rowley. He later married Doris McMillan Braggs Sept. 12, 1970. They have two daughters, Shanna Williams and Renee Brigman.

He was a member of Calvary Assembly for 31 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a half-brother Hugh Smith; and a sister, Beatrice Wetter. He is survived by his wife, Doris Brigman of Midland; his children, Roy Brigman, Chris Rowley of Austin, Shanna Williams of Midland, Renee Brigman of Midland; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; one half-brother, J.W. Smith of Georgia; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Services will be at First Assembly of God at 1 p.m. today, Nov. 17. Interment will follow at Serenity Memorial Gardens. The family requests memorials to be sent to New Springs Family Church.

Calvert, Gene William

Gene William Calvert, born in Seoul Korea on August 10, 1975, was called home on November 15, 2006. He was born to Orville Clifton Calvert, Jr. and Myong O. Calvert. Gene graduated from UTPB with his B.S. in Computer Sciences -- where he credits the success of finishing to his best friends: David Anaya, Peter Carrillo, Dennis Showmaker, and Shannon Goble. Gene also went on to complete his M.A. in Information Technology.

Gene was raised and worked in Odessa, Texas where he was an assistant professor of Computer Sciences at Odessa College. Gene resided in Midland, Texas. Gene was blessed with two beautiful children, Neo Gene Calvert (6) and Zurella Elaine Calvert (5) who has been and will always be his heart and soul. Gene Calvert will always be remembered as the individual who loved everyone, and would help anyone. Gene was always an extremely generous person, and he truly was one of those people that would "give you the shirt off his back."

In addition to his parents and children, Gene is survived by his step-father Harry Deter; five brothers, Robert Calvert, James Calvert, Trey Calvert, Matt Deter, and Cody Deter; three sisters, Carrie Hart, Desi Deter, and Yolanda Calvert; two aunts, Barbara Ann Stanley, and Kyong Chang; five nephews, Caleb Calvert, Chris Calvert, Cliff Calvert, Micah Calvert and Devin Calvert; two nieces, Deseare Carroll, and Jaleesia Carroll; four cousins Rhoda Ybaben, Brandi Pool, Jott Pool, and Corky Stanley.

Gene is preceded in death by his grandparents, Orville Clifton Calvert Sr. and Clyde Inez Calvert; an aunt, Joyce Elder; two uncles, JC Stanley, and Forest Elder; two cousins, Ricky Dale Stanley and Kirby Elder.

A service to celebrate Gene's life will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2006 at 6:30 p.m. at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Chapel, 3800 N. Big Spring St. in Midland. Viewing will be on Saturday at the funeral home.

Greenlaw, Sonora Nell Patton

Sonora Greenlaw, 84, of Midland peacefully entered eternal life on Monday, November 13, 2006 at the Hospice Inpatient Unit at Midland Memorial Hospital. Services will be held on Friday, November 17th, 2006 at 4:00 p.m. at St. Paul's Anglican Church, 2900 Princeton Avenue in Midland with the Reverends Jon Stasney and Jonathan Hartzer officiating.

Pat was born to Edward C. and Nell F. Patton on July 19, 1922 in Stephenville, Texas where she lived until after college when she began her career. She held secretarial and administrative positions with the CAA and in the oil and medical fields until retirement in 1985.

She married the love of her life, Don Greenlaw, on October 20, 1946. They were blessed by a deep and very special love for one another for 28 years until he passed away on October 17, 1974.

Affectionately called G.G. by her grandchildren, she loved nature, animals, painting and gardening. Despite failing vision in later years she continued to crochet and gave countless afghans to family, friends and charities. She was a member of Christ Church Midland.

Survivors include two daughters, Terry Toolen and husband Bob of St. Louis, MO and Kasey Weaver and husband Phil of Midland, TX; three grandchildren, Kevin Toolen of St. Louis, MO, Lauren Weaver of Houston, TX and Andrew Weaver of Bryan, TX; one sister, Martha Wolfe of Jacksboro, TX.

BIG SPRING -- William W. "Willie" Hull, 74, of Garden City died Tuesday, Nov. 14, at the Stanton Nursing Center in Stanton. Jordan, M. Cozene

M. Cozene Jordan, of Midland, went home to our Lord and Savior, Wednesday, November 15, 2006 at Midland Memorial Hospital.

She was born April 16, 1938 to William Ollie Griffin and Winnie Janell Tipton Griffin in Non, Oklahoma. On March 25, 1955, she married Lacy "Red" Randolph Jordan in Tatum, New Mexico. He preceded her in death on December 21, 2001. A homemaker, Cozene lived for her family and was a "teacher of life" for her children. She participated with her children in their various school activities. She enjoyed cake decorating, arts and crafts, reading and crocheting. One of her great joys in life was cooking and baking for family and friends. Cozene was the matriarch of the Griffin family.

They came to Garden City from Mexico in 1952. He worked for John H. Cox in ranching for 47 years. He was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Guadalupe Fuentes of Miles; three sons, Pedro Talamantes of Garden City, Jesus Talamantes of Pipe Creek and Arturo Talamantes of Saint Jo; 21 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; five brothers and four sisters.

He was preceded in death by a son, Jose (Pepe) Talamantes and a sister, Odulia Vasquez.

Elzora Woodruff died Nov. 13, after a courageous battle. Born Sept. 25, 1943 in Cameron, Tx., to Lonnie and Magnolia Woodruff, she moved to Midland in 1948. She accepted Christ at an early age. Elzora was a loving, caring and giving mother, sister, daughter aunt, and grandmother. She was a longtime employee with Mary Steedman.

Preceding her in death were her parents, and a great nephew.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her sons, Robert Woodruff, and Larry Woodruff and wife Pam, her daughter Demetria Woodruff, all of Midland, three sisters, Lovie Cook, Alice Evans, and Dorothy Dunn, two brothers , Lonnie Woodruff and L.D. Woodruff, all of Midland, grandchildren, Audrey, Cherrelle, Larry Jr. (Flip), Devante Deambria, Marquett, and Laderica, all of Midland.

Funeral Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Mt. Rose Full Gospel Baptist Church, 211 N. Tyler, Midland, interment will be in Resthaven North Cemetery.
