Healy, Jacinta Melendez

Jacinta Melendez Healy, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away on December 23rd in Midland, Texas. Born in San Antonio, Chihuahua, Mexico, she was raised on the Brite Ranch near Marfa and in Valentine, Texas. She became a proud naturalized U.S. citizen on May 15, 1957. With only an eighth grade education, she brought up her three children as a single mother in Marfa, Texas. Later, she moved to El Paso, Texas; Midland, Texas; and finally to Van Horn, Texas, where she lived an active life until her death.

At 90 years of age, she drove her own car, lived by herself, sewed quilts and other items for family and friends, and remained fiercely independent. Jessie, as her friends called her, was a strong woman of great faith and courage. She was still driving herself back and forth to El Paso and Midland just eight weeks before her death. A special lady, she never wanted anyone to bother over her, but she was always ready to help others in need.

Jessie was preceded in death by her children Diego Cano and Lois Herrera. She is survived by her son Tony Cano of El Paso, her beloved daughter-in-law Mary Cano of Midland, eight grandchildren: Celani Cano of Houston and Dennis Cano (wife Elizabeth), Dolores Cano, Diana Cano, and DeArcy Cano (wife Mel) all of Midland, Texas; Leo Herrera (wife Sylvia) and Darillo Herrera of El Paso; and Mary Frances Bleile (husband Dennis) of Ohio. She was proud to have fourteen great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Born into a family of eleven children, Jessie was preceded in death by her three brothers and three sisters and is survived by four siblings; Consuelo Solis of El Paso, Texas; Cecilia Segura of Valentine, Texas; Juliana Rivera of Guadalupe, California; and Manuel Melendez of Ventura, California. She was dear to many nieces and nephews and will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.

And so, your smile lives on in blinding sunshine,

And your laughter echoes out as children play,

And each flower is a reminder of your caring,

And your grace is seen in trees that gently sway,

And the breeze caresses us with your voice calling,

And your memory warms us till our hearts do fill,

For you touched our lives with love and understanding.

You are always here; we feel your presence still.

Services will be held at Ellis Funeral Home, 801 Andrews Hwy., Midland, Texas 79701 on December 29, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. Her remains will be cremated afterwards and her ashes will be distributed equally, per her request, on the graves of her two deceased children, Diego Cano Jr., and Lois Herrera, and in the future with her only surviving son, Tony Cano. When tomorrow starts without me

And I'm not there to see,

If the sun should rise and find your eyes,

All filled with tears for me.

I wish so much you wouldn't cry.

The way you did today,

While thinking of the many things,

We didn't get to say.

I know how much you love me,

As much as I love you,

And each time that you think of me,

I know you'll miss me too.

But when tomorrow starts without me,

Please try to understand,

That an angel came and called my name,

And took me by the hand,

And said my place was ready,

In heaven far above,

And that I'd have to leave behind

All those I dearly love.

But as I turned to walk away,

A tear fell from my eye,

For all my life, I'd always thought,

I didn't want to die.

I had so much to live for,

So much left yet to do,

It seemed almost impossible,

That I was leaving you.

I thought of all the yesterdays,

The good ones and the bad,

I thought of all the love we shared,

And all the fun we had.

If I could relive yesterday,

Just even for a while,

I'd say good-bye and kiss you,

And maybe see you smile.

But then I fully realized,

That this could never be,

For emptiness and memories,

Would take the place of me.

So when tomorrow starts without me,

Don't think we're far apart,

For every time you think of me,

I'm right here, in your heart.

When tomorrow starts without me

And I'm not there to see,

If the sun should rise and find your eyes,

All filled with tears for me.

I wish so much you wouldn't cry.

The way you did today,

While thinking of the many things,

We didn't get to say.

I know how much you love me,

As much as I love you,

And each time that you think of me,

I know you'll miss me too.

But when tomorrow starts without me,

Please try to understand,

That an angel came and called my name,

And took me by the hand,

And said my place was ready,

In heaven far above,

And that I'd have to leave behind

All those I dearly love.

But as I turned to walk away,

A tear fell from my eye,

For all my life, I'd always thought,

I didn't want to die.

I had so much to live for,

So much left yet to do,

It seemed almost impossible,

That I was leaving you.

I thought of all the yesterdays,

The good ones and the bad,

I thought of all the love we shared,

And all the fun we had.

If I could relive yesterday,

Just even for a while,

I'd say good-bye and kiss you,

And maybe see you smile.

But then I fully realized,

That this could never be,

For emptiness and memories,

Would take the place of me.

So when tomorrow starts without me,

Don't think we're far apart,

For every time you think of me,

I'm right here, in your heart.
