Funeral services for Joe Thomas Surovik Jr., 84, were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 14, 2001, in the Ocker Brethren Church in Zabcikville with Rev. Albert Michalik of Ocker Brethren Church officiating. Burial followed in the Ocker Brethren Church Cemetery in Zabcikville. He died Monday, March 12, in the Richards Memorial Hospital in Rockdale.
Mr. Surovik, a Rockdale resident the past 24 years, was formerly of Holland for 23 years and Temple. He was born June 19, 1916, in Barclay to Joe Thomas Surovik Sr. and Malady Rosa Baletka Surovik.
Mr. Surovik and Lydia Sebek were married Feb. 22, 1938, in Temple. He was a painter for the VA Hospital in Temple for 31 years (1946-1977). He attended school in Barclay, was a US Navy veteran of World War II and a member of the Ocker Brethren Church in Zabcikville.
Preceding him in death were a son, James Edward Surovik on Feb. 26, 2001, and his parents.
Surviving are: Wife, Lydia Surovik of Rockdale; two sons, John William Surovik of Cameron and Joe Thomas Surovik III of Port Lavaca; three daughters, Gayle Gilliam of Angleton, Sharlyn Hicks of Decator and Diana Norwood of Duncanville; 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Ocker Brethren Church Building Fund.
